I promise I'll put pictures up.

I have had him since June but it seems like he has been a part of the family forever. He is stuck to me like glue and follows me everywhere I go. I really think he carries on these conversations in his head because his little mouth is always moving. He is such a joy and I am truly blessed to have him in my life.

Needless to say I no longer shop at this pet store. However, I do go in there to check on the animals and I am proud to say that because of me they are no longer allowed to have birds any larger than a cockatiel (Which I am working on) because the water was always dirty, CANNED vegetables were being fed to them, etc. I was on the phone with the corporate office to which I was HORRIFIED to find out that they have had Greys, Macaws and Cockatoos for sale in this same store. I immediately informed them that NOT ON MY WATCH will they ever neglect another bird!!

I was not planning on getting my Sun Conure as I had my Phoenix on order so to speak. I went into a pet store that we always go to for our dogs food. They had a Sun Conure there since we first went to the store in the Summer of 2012. I would always go there and talk to him/her but she was frightened of people. Fast forward to April of 2013 and I went there and he/she was gone. I said to the girl A MANAGER no less, oh did the sun conure find a home. WORD FOR WORD I was told No, we shipped him to another store because we didn't have time for it. I said what store, she told me and I left that store and drove 45 minutes to the other store and he/she came home with me that night!!! I love her so much. Sad thing is she is afraid of hands and is not very comfortable out of the cage. We keep working on it and the other night I was sitting watching TV and her cage was open and the next thing I knew she flew onto my shoulder and snuggled up against my neck. I almost cried. It's the first time she has ever come to me on her own. One night she was sitting on my Husbands chest and decided his scruff needed some cleaning. LOL It was the cutest thing ever. She is in LOVE with my Husband.

I agree that the poor bird was terrified. Just looking at that video and picture made my heart almost stop because there is NOTHING I wouldn't do to protects my fur babies and feather babies. I think the hawk would be gone seeing some out of her mind crazy lady coming at it with a broom screaming at the top of her lungs. I most certainly would NOT be taking a video! I was just thinking about something. My Sun Conure goes right after anything that scares her. If it had been her she would have gone right to the top of that cage and gone to bite that hawks foot and she would not have won that fight!

lol That was kind compared to what I was thinking.

That is the video and I have to say I am pretty shocked at the owners reaction!
-
It's gorgeous and to me the expression says "Now how do I get my lunch". Very scary as it can happen to anyone who has birds outside. I'm just imagining if she had the bird on a harness outside it would not have been a pretty situation.

There was a woman who posted this on Facebook. She had her bird outside to get some fresh air and sun and this is what paid a visit!!! Personally I would not have taken the time to take a Video and pictures!!

Thank you all for your supportive comments and help. I'm determined to accomplish this because I know he will love it. I am willing to keep trying as long as it takes.

Can Radar give Phoenix a call and tell him to chill out that it's worth getting it on because then you get to go outside and fly! lol I practice with him every day. His harness lays on his perch stand. I know we'll get it one day and I know he will be mad at himself for making all this fuss all this time. lol

Yes, I have watched the video several times and followed the steps to the letter. The second he sees it he wants to tangle himself up in it. lol

I'll keep trying. He is a little stinker. I love him soo much. He will have worse temper tantrums than a 2 year old. He'll be sitting there playing with a foot toy and out of nowhere he will fly and scream at the top of his lungs then land on my hand and look at me like WHAT! He's my little buddy.
-
I have been trying to get Phoenix to let me put a harness on him since he came home. I have tried everything but the little stinker just grabs it and gets all wrapped up in it. I'm thinking I should just forget about it but I would love to be able to take him outside. Anyone have any tricks?

Right now I am sharing the light between Phoenix and my Sun Conure until I can order another one or figure out a light that will go over the top of Phoenix's cage. I have never heard Phoenix growl until I was putting the light together. He was petrified. I slowly introduced it back to the room and they both seem ok with it now.

That is so strange because when I click on that link it says $18.36. I also read that they need to be replaced every 6 months. It says it on the box "UVB & UVA emissions last 6 months"

Thank you all for your information. I am soo glad I joined this group. I will find something to place the lamp on so it will go over the top of his cage. Right now I have it over my Sun Conures cage and I think I will be purchasing another lamp/bulb for Phoenix's cage. I wasn't sure if you could use the bulb in any lamp so I am glad that I have that option. I was quite surprised at the cost for the bulb. I paid about $19. I found other sites that they were much more expensive.

I purchased the bulb and the floor lamp. The problem is that the floor lamp is not tall enough to go over the top of his cage. Are there any other type of lamps that I can use this bulb in? I have seen this type of lamp and was wondering if it was just as good as the Avian Sun lamp. http://www.windycityparrot.com/Bird-Cage-Lighting-Parrots.html

I was wondering how many people use sleep cages. I don't feel that Phoenix is getting the proper sleep since he is right in the middle of everything. I have a spare bedroom that I would like to get a smaller cage for him to sleep in. What size cages do you recommend? Also what do you keep in the sleep cages such as toys, food, water.

Thank You so much.

That's a great idea about the steamer! SOOO true about different colors just killing him. He hung from the top of his cage and walked around the walls of the cage and wouldn't go anywhere near that monster boing. lol
