murfchck
Found out yesterday after a few days of investigating that my extra, extra large play stand has Powderpost beetles. I am not a happy camper. I kept seeing dust on the bottom but assumed it was just the pellet dust from the guys eating, but no. After looking at it more carefully there are over 100 exit holes and the big branch off to the side is very weak. Over 500.00 invested in this thing and it won't be around much longer. Trying to find the company who made it, it is local here in DFW area, I want to say Richardson but I can't find them on the internet since they don't sell to the public and the 2 pet stores that carried them are no longer in business. My feed store has some that look kind of the same but I'll have to call today and see if it is the same company. Arrggghhh! It is only 3 or maybe 4 years old, I am so sad and angry at the same time, I doubt they can or will do anything.
Acappella
Oh no, that's terrible news. I'm so sorry this is happening. If it's just the one post is there any way to just replace it with a new piece, or would you be afraid the whole thing is infested? I guess there's no way to fumigate it that would be safe for the birds?
murfchck
Its the whole thing. And there is nothing safe but baking it. It is 6ft tall and almost 5ft long and 2 1/2 ft wide, i don't know anyone with an over that big.
murfchck
Turns out we have been having some feeding issues and I am not crazy, lol. He isn't starving by any means he just only has half a tongue so you have to get that syringe just right or he will push it out or block the opening. I knew his tongue had been nicked by his parents but wasn't sure what a baby tongue looked like so didn't know he was missing over half of it. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/whVUaZDvalbZUuHyuWrFi919ai08hR73U2nsytSnUP4=w380-h674-no
Greywings
It seems he is growing quite nicely even with half a tongue, good job by you!
murfchck
7 weeks old today!! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/tafBHv2-HEFbM47m9PceRenrQ5oyd6zIHMmrtg3xyEut3349lVeXgzgdRwSHTqnPv0fdhLbSp1__FZLMZxggaO-ArF9UmVS1Q6lszUovQzuevU4_lzSPSuaBJoLZBRmB1AALdCtZQ8z8gd0Qs41gWLPaIBKAOKUiGglTIwhVa-eHhekxG0ygUbo6I5yTFK9-JjyOCdsKX_W3nEOH_JCjHMWBztyi5nWOwnYuAYPETp3qztiexrVPPmcGEM3bzx_BhdaUVuzRUVJoJLezlGg_P4jvd0K5POSrpeI9yGcaFLmsM_WseO-6Apahz8wYU6t2MjveppdR5pOvsh6TkgVG66LJmt-rkzy-yw0j0lEoC9PK7YlXMxK9JACsXpgMGo2DAfSpYf-DV9QfICL8ZSJGHwoDwMwybTGe0U0tHUspde7xr02LWfiYwH1D8uVF70nyfMpwDxbPrfElzVQN4O7grjbbGiBV00X44foQhib7IiyvujlQmWUwPIgP7fQSJXMSzjrzB2gzkH3k6BVOHZr6UvU=w380-h674-no My baby is growing up so fast. We are at the fledging stage so loosing weight and flapping around a lot. Today we get our DNA done. Pat is such a love, he said there is no way he could help with that. He said he just loves him so much that he can't bare to watch him get his nail clipped and bleed after all his little toes have been through. I tried to explain that he would need to get his nails trimmed during his life so it is now or never, he said never, end of conversation. lol He was also with me when I fed him last night before bed. He would be a horrible mommy, his kid would be wrapped in bubble wrap and never be allowed to explore life! He had to leave the room because after all this time of me feeding Kane, he knew how to do it better so I tried to give him the syringe to do it himself, he left and said he just couldn't watch any more, That he just loves him so much the feeding scares him because of all the horror stories he has heard. Here comes my Texas twang... Bless his little heart.
Acappella
I can't see this picture for some reason. I love that Pat is so sweet with Kane, well, with all your fids.
murfchck
Not sure why the pictures won't copy anymore. Pretty sure it is user error but not sure what I am doing wrong. Blood tests are done and ready to be sent off. I may be taking Marley butt out there also to get hers/his done today too. Out of all the birds nails we did yesterday, Kane of course did the best! I had him with the baby red fronts and it was just so cute to see him cuddle up with other babies. However he did like his stuffed animal the best and never went to far from it! murfchck
I don't know why it is doing that. It is on my end. Kane has grown so much since the last picture I posted to. He has eaten grapes, banana's, chickpeas, sprouts and pellets now. I was told he would be hard to wean because he doesn't have anyone to beat to the food but he seems to be doing very good finding the food and sampling it all. I made him a simple chop of broccoli and carrots, yams, spinach, kale and he actually likes it I think. He could just be face planting into it and have no choice but at least he is getting it down, lol. https://goo.gl/photos/gXHUXKNKgXjfkrgT6 https://goo.gl/photos/uCtNQhQRnPVVtMG77 Hopefully these links will work for the pictures. I use to just copy and paste but it just isn't working that way, found a icon that said to get a sharable link... Worth a try, fingers crossed! murfchck
Kane is trying to perch now and not doing to bad at it either. We are at our weight loss stage as he is coming into his fledging, kinda holding his own at 674g. Trying some fresh foods but not really interested. Poor guy doesn't have anyone to show him the ropes so it will be a slow going process. I had to cut Pat off from the wine yesterday because we were talking about him not having anyone his age to play with or learn with and Pat was ready to buy a red front baby she has there since they are close to the same age. Really? And most people think I am the reason we have so many birds, lol. I guess Pat has been taking our pictures lately and his do not upload to Google automatically so I don't have any new ones to share today. I will get some uploaded for tomorrow. You will be shocked at how much of a change has taken place, he is all macaw now.
Greywings
Aww I guess some one has to have limits, lol. Red fronted Macaws are so funny not quite like any other Macaws-they will melt and slide down you trusting you to keep them from falling, silly birds. murfchck
Here is a picture of Kane trying to escape his "travel" tub. Poor thing gets a good hold and tries lifting his foot up but then falls, or rolls, onto his back. He keeps trying but I am not hoping it happens soon, I don't want my little guy growing up. https://goo.gl/photos/oLHbZendpZnLgdXD7 https://goo.gl/photos/yXAeo9ooNpYVPUZn7 https://goo.gl/photos/mnNJqDaKduANaAveA

murfchck
Every girl bird in this house loves Pat, me not so much. So we find out yesterday my "boy" is a girl and I am just fine with that until last night. We have her out in the kitchen with us, big sheet on the floor and we both lay down there to play with her, aw sweet huh? Then it happens, I reach out to give her her normal head rub, she cowers and runs to Pat. I am on the floor (unable to get up) crying deep down inside, she wants him. Really??? For weeks I get up every two hours and feed her, I come from work every day to feed her, I have loved and given her all of me and she runs to Pat. Ha to those who say if a person hand feeds a baby bird it will bond to them, we have just shot that theory right out into orbit!! Dirt update: Hired a company to bring in dirt and fill the hole, poop on the free dirt crap you always see. Been months of calling and calling and hearing that we will be put on a list, there is no list, it is all made up and they lie!!! Let me say, it cost us less to buy and install the pool than to remove it.
murfchck
Dirt day! It feels like this hole has been here forever but I am not sad to see it go. It is going to be so nice to walk outside and be able to get to the hose without having to walk to the back fence and around just to get to it. https://goo.gl/photos/zjLgnbXULjUqXvzc6 https://goo.gl/photos/e9cGozmLF4kEXiBX7 Here are some pictures of Kane from last weekend. The first picture we think she was trying to see what she would have looked like as a boy, sporting a foo man choo! She is perching much easier now, and getting her balance. Last night she was with us watching tv for a bit (been months since I have sat on the love seat and watched tv, felt a little weird) I let Kane run around but she opted for my shoulder. She would grab my glasses and just flap with all her might, I could hear her heavy breathing where she was wearing herself out. Trying to decide where her cage will go when that time comes and daddy Pat said he wants to get rid of the loveseat, get 2 recliners and put her cage in between them. My gosh he just loves Kane and so do I but there has to be a better option! Have I mentioned that this little girl is going to be a handful? Greywings
I think she may be whispering into Pats ear, does he even realize she is able to manipulate him yet?
murfchck
Nope, he has not got a clue how wrapped he already is around her talons! So the dirt was a cluster. We are really thinking about changing our last name to my maiden name, Murphy is just tempting fate. So the first dump truck arrives and drops 10 yards of fill. Dirt guy shows and moves 2 buckets into the hole, only 9:30 am so things are going good. Dump truck's air bag deployed on their way back, have to get that fixed before they can come back out. Dirt guy on 4th bucket, gets a flat on his big machine and they try to fill it, no go. He loads up his machine to get the tire fixed. 11am dirt starts to arrive again, noon more dirt, 1pm even more dirt. Ummm, where is dirt guy to get this moved??? 1:30 dirt guy gets back and is doing double time, taking out our neighbors sprinkler head that is marked by a 8' 2x2 in his rush. I have been at work but came home at 3 to feed Kane, things are getting done so I go back to work, he has a long way to go so I will be there for the final load! I get home at 4:30, just in time to see him getting out of his machine and cleaning up to leave. Hole is not filled what is going on??? His pregnant wife was admitted to the hospital with high blood pressure, he has to go and be with her. Can't argue that one or get mad. Get a text from him about 8pm, they are inducing labor in the morning... He has asked someone he has worked with before to come and finish us up but now I have to miss work to watch and I don't have a clue what to look for. lol And take Mary Anne and Oliver to the vet this morning by 7:30 am! Bless Pats heart, he took off yesterday and mostly waited around cleaning the house. He isn't happy at all about this because he can not miss another day. SRSeedBurners
The joys of dealing with sub-contractors! We had a situation many years ago when we first bought our place: the guy we hired to wrap the place in pipe and horse wire fencing took half payment, did enough to then want the remaining payment and then 'fell on hard times'. We harassed and threatened him for two years before he finally came out and finished our fence. We almost gave up and decided we were out the remaining 7K. I don't trust anyone anymore.
