Wow, he sure seems like a very young one to me. He's definitely wanting to NOT be alone. Dave knows better than me as I've only had a couple Greys but I'd be comforting him as much as possible. I've found with all my young birds they come to a point of wanting to develop their own independence and that's a REAL good time to make sure they don't turn to velcro birds. Your bird looks like he is well before that point and just needs some company. My only velcro bird is my Caique - and Caiques are not generally velcro birds. I'm 100% sure it's because he's the only one here that can't fly and has to hail a cab everywhere whereas the other two go freely where ever they want. He's sees that and it's very irritating, I can tell. He's getting more and more flights in and it will only be a matter of time before he no longer needs a cabby. Is he making that noise when he is out playing with you? I'm hoping it's not just a habit now.

20mo Grey that does the same. If she can see me, and I lock her up in the cage, she will relentlessly crawl all over the inside of the cage and screech. The only exception is when I move her cage outside. She seems to understand that outside time there is no getting out of the cage.

That's a great disguise, I'd never pick him out of a lineup.

Yep, hole on the underside of the beak is normal. It's also the reason you do not ever want to use carabiner style clips unless they have the screw on modification. I've seen several pics of birds with those clips stuck in their beak and that hole on the underside.

Wow...he's very responsive to your prompts. I feel like I have the dumbest Grey on the planet. She's stuck on the same 5-10 words she's been saying for months and doesn't respond to anything save one: kookaburra. I can always get her to do the Kookaburra when I ask her to do Kookaburra. I'd love to get her to say give me some sugar but I know I'm talking to a wall.

Had to think about this one for a while. I have a couple of memories and both involve loss in one way or another. When we lost Greycie for two days I remember having the dream of her sitting on my pipe fence, seen through a sort of tunnel vision. She was sitting there calling out to me and it really sent me into a downer because I was 100% sure I would never see my baby again. Little did I know we would actually find her that next night. We still go by the tree we found her in and talk about how lucky lucky lucky we were. i still think about that dream, it was very strange. It's been almost exactly one year since that happened. Relations with my sister-in-law who let Greycie out have seriously soured but I don't give a rip - I got my baby bird back. The other memory I have that really sticks with me is of Raven. She was to the point that she could barely hold herself up and getting around was next to impossible for her. She still seemed to have good spirits though. I pretty sure that animals are much much better at dealing with adversity than we are. I was baby sitting her, which required around the clock for either myself or my wife, sitting in the tub while little Raven was on the rug next to me still playing with a wiffle ball. She was still having fun and all I could do was cry - she was so sweet. I still have a hard time with her memory, she was such a sweet bird.

I was wondering if that may be where he was getting it. Greycie won't say anything I say. She picked up my wife's voice and only says things my wife says. I've tried a) to get Greycie to repeat stuff I teach her and b) to get my wife to teach Greycie things I want her to say. Neither female will listen to me

That's cute. I have to ask where he got his man voice from? I always wonder what dictates whether they'll speak 'male' or 'female'.

I watch a lot of videos of Greys with Greycie Mae. It's not often I find one that is worth posting about. This one is so very well done and the story is pretty cool too. This is Lucky who lives on the 'Sophisticated Lady' sailing the Caribbean. Apparently based on the video description, Lucky has logged over 60,000 sea miles. I'll have to find some time to watch their other videos. Wish I could live like this with the Greycie Mae. We'd be pirates! Really like the video because Lucky reminds me of Greycie. They have similar mannerisms and behavior. I especially like the part 'The Claw'. That is so how Greycie would react. [video=youtube_share;xpgVL0hisCk]

I like to show videos of other Greys to Greycie - she really tunes in. Not sure she ever learns anything from them but they are entertaining to her. I can always tell by the way she will do the quick head shake. That reminds me...I need to post a video I saw this morning of a Grey on a sailboat living in the Carribean. You should show that one to Sophie and see what she thinks. I'll put it in the photo/video room.

He's huge! Is that beak normal? Looks massively overgrown to me but I know zip about macaws.

Soon your house will be like ours - sort of. I am fully trained to listen for inbound flights. Proper technique is to either stop what I'm doing and just be still or at least move predictably so the pilot can put the bird down in the landing zone. Greycie Ace prefers that I lean my head to the opposite side of her inbound flight path. I'm also to have whatever it is I'm snacking on in a position to be snatched immediately with no thanks given. Our other pilot in the house sounds similar but I can tell it's him by the amount of time it takes from when I first hear the aircraft. If it's taking eons to close in, I know its my novice and to raise my hand way up because he only knows up, is not real good at coming down. He never aims for the shoulder, only the top of the head. Most likely a controlled crash landing is imminent with this one. I agree, the smooches are magical. Greycie will sometimes land and grab my ear and hang off the front to give me smooches. Cute as can be.

I'm late too - Happy Hatchday Ruby. I really like the photo montage showing her growth. Such a beautiful birdy.

She did it again this morning. I was doing something to the side of the fridge and noticed the overwhelming quiet. She was looking at me while laying on her side nicely wrapped in the tortilla. I'm starting to think she looks more like a stuffed street taco.

Rio may get a little bigger but he's pretty much the size of an adult. He's still really clumsy like a baby. He's real good about getting launched into the air - getting down safely is a bit dicey right now. We all go scrambling when he's floating around and missed his target

I've seen those for sale. I've often wondered if my Greybie would spend time making a nice mess for me to clean up. I have three birds, one of them is bound to want this. I might make one too.

I say our Toby is 10ft tall and bullet proof (plus he's a black belt in Caiquey-jiu-jitsu) and nothing scares him...but...something near their hanging atoms the other day scared the crap out of him (more than normal if you know what I mean). It took two days before I could get him to go back over there and he's still leary of the area. Have no idea what he saw.

Such a sweet bird. Love the pictures of her to remember her. I dread losing them and hearing about others losing theirs. They are such sweet beings and represent everything that is good - at least to me they do.

You can get stainless hose clamps. That's what I use to keep things in place. They even make them with a wing nut so you don't have to resort to a socket or an open end wrench.
