Alex, my rescued 18 years old African Grey
SRSeedBurners replied to samansad's topic in Rescue Bird Haven
Safe for birdy bell: Also the fastener at the top, we used to use those until I spotted my Jardines one day with his toy hanging from his beak. He got it off, then got it clipped onto his beak and the hole near his throat. We have since switched to quick links. He can undo quick links too, don't ask me how, but he can't screw it back together on his beak. I swear, he's a little engineer birdy.... -
Everytime I see a cockatoo video, they seem to be doing the same thing. Do they all have a screw loose or something? HAaahaahhh Oh...happy HATCHDay Murfchck!!!

Ahh yes, supervising in the kitchen. I believe that's what Grey's were born to do. And it's why we have shoulders. -

She looks like she has mastered some Grey yoga moves. -
And yet another keyboard destroyed

Sounds like our house: - Nothing breakable on the kitchen counter. GreycieMae loves to fly in there and check to see if her counters are clear. If not you will get a crashing sound faster than you can get in there to do your job. - Laptop cover down. Rio will strip keys if he finds a laptop unattended. - Hide the Tab4: I think little Toby likes to go shopping or something. He's learned to scroll the screen with his beak. Of course he can't figure out how to turn the blasted thing on. - I have to wear shoes: Rio hates my toes and will guerrilla attack them if he see's them out in the open. However mama's toes get upchucks and Jardines cooing. Go figure. - Cabinets above the fridge must be covered. Rio likes to strip paint off them. -
The look on Maalik's face: just got busted perving for ziggy.

What a little piggy. Our little pigeons are growing like weeds too.

You have a possessive horn-dog on your hands. Grey's will punish you when you're not doing what they wish, which in this case is not keeping far enough away from the perceived competition. I get a nice beak-lashing when I come to close to Toby whom GreycieMae can't stand. If I'm not taking care of business (i.e. keeping Toby at a distance) as she insists I can and do sometimes get a nasty bite. At first I had a hard time 'seeing' what was going on. My wife said something one day that made it click and now it's clear as day - she will punish me for not towing her line. I'm allowed to mess with Rio (our Jardines) a bit more before getting bit and I can mess with the wifey too a bit more but there are limits there as well. Greys....

Kinda funny - I'm actually looking for a job where I can work from home, not because I'm a lazy bastard and just want to stay home, no I feel like I need to be home for the birds more
-
Greys are the sweetest! GreybieGrey does a similar thing when she wants me to swing her on her chain. I was telling her tonight she's just like a little kid wanting to play.
-
Don't clip. Especially if you can have control of when he is in contact with those he'll chase. Our Rio is not allowed to roam freely anymore with visitors. If he does, they are armed with a spray bottle. He quickly does a U-turn when he sees they are armed. Typical thug.
-
I'd try getting him with a spray bottle before I'd resort to clipping. You can also slightly trim their flight feathers which will just slow them down a bit but does not prevent flight. Our Jardines flew up into my mother's hair and swung down and bit her good on the cheek two weeks ago. Then he went after my aunt and got her finger. He's on serious probation and that's what we're going to do if he doesn't get a handle on himself. He thinks he's a little punk thug that runs the village around here...when he's not being as sweet as can be.

I'm not sure who is uglier, him or my baby pigeons. Amazing how they can become so cute though. Here's a short video I got a couple days ago just to show how ugly they are:

I see you parronts posting accusations like this all the time. It's very clear to me that Echo has trapped whomever tore up your keyboard underneath that thingy there. Poor girl just needed some help catching the perp! -
Sweet story. I hate to hear how they were treated, there are probably so many birds going through that hell. Got any pictures of the three of them?
-
What a sweety Ana Grey!
-
I get a Jeckyll & Hyde occasionally. GreycieMae gets that look on her face "Who the hell are you and why are you touching me....?" Then at night after we put the littles to bed she's as sweet as can be.
-
Did Talon start showing you preferential treatment or did it just kind of stay the same?
-
He looks like our baby pigeons!

Facebook private group. Beware though, you'll see some aviarys on there that will make you drool uncontrollably.

Hear you on the Harrisons. I instituted a ban on Harrisons after the previous bag ran out. It was worse than government waste, fraud and abuse: wife was putting Harrisons in outside containers to get pooped on, mixing it with wet food so it had to get tossed daily and Rio was somehow able to make the pile of Harrisons below his food bowl larger than the pile I had placed in his bowl?!? A few F-bombs and threats and we have compromised on trying a new system: I researched and finally bought theCaitec Seed Corral. We're in the testing phase but WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!. So far Rio has only managed to waste just a few of the pellets as we buy the 'Fine' size so they don't ricochet all around the inside of the feeder as he cracks them. GreycieMae fits in it nicely but she's about the largest size bird I would use that on. It's also a little too big for Rio and especially our 10 ft tall & bullet proof Caique. I wish they made a medium size unit. Their small is budgie sized which would probably work for Toby if he could fit his ego in it. If you look at the photo in the link, notice it's a photo shop job. Same bird, same image only mirrored. It's almost twice as big as the photo seems to indicate. They should have used a big fat Grey like my piggy, she can get all the way inside that thing.

Your clever use of a homophone is allowed since the CAG is commonly referred to as a house chicken and can therefore loosely fit into the order of Galliforme.

They like it because it has sugar in it - 5th listed ingredient. Mine like it too! They also like red wine, coffee, beer, tacos, nachos...I'm a horrible parront. No I'm not, they force me to give them those things. I'm powerless.

Hi Marwan - do you have access to fruits/veggies at all? There's a sticky in this forum that gives a short list of some things you could try to feed by cutting/chopping. These guys really do super good on a fresh food diet. Zupreem and most pellets with a few exceptions are nothing but ground corn with some other ingredients mixed in. I call it dog food for parrots. We do feed some of these types of pellets but it's only after I've offered a nice fresh food meal or for times when they have to be locked up for a while. Can you get Harrisons? That's a really good pellet for Greys but they need to be active birds as it's really dense nutritionally. Also, feed seeds sparingly. We use them for treats only around here and I have very active birds that spend part of their day being rowdy in an outdoor aviary.
