  1. You and me both. This thread was here two years before I joined. I've almost asked for cliff notes before but I think I got the jist from scanning a few pages.
  2. Does it count if the contact call is a fart sound? It's gotten so bad around here that our Jardines now does the fart sound contact call.
  3. If you are her favored one I don't believe the transition to a new living space is much of an issue at all if you are around. I think it's more important to them that their flock is wherever they are. So many people travel with Greys and have no issues. I would be more concerned if the husband was taking her as she won't interact physically with him.
  4. Super hard to resist giving that a "tickle-tickle-tickle"...
  5. She's so chill because she's probably logged over a hundred hours on that fan. It's one of those monster 72inch bladed fans that use the shape of the blade to move air rather than sheer force by speed. On the lowest setting I can put her on it and she can ride it with one foot up - that's how slow it will spin and that's speed we use so it won't harm anybirdy. Our biggest problem is she LOVES to reach down and grab a nice chunk of the wood to chew on while she spins. That's what has gotten her banned from it for several months.
  6. I've come across that motor a couple of times and have decided it probably isn't heavy duty enough. The one perch that Greycie LOVES to go round and round on weighs about 30 pounds. Then put her little fatty on it and it weight 31.5 pounds! I need something that is heavy duty and spins about 10-15rpm.
  7. Yeah, we have to be careful or somebirdy around here tries to pull out the plates and smash them on the counter below.
  8. Oh wow, your original post said around Feb. Sooner the better! (as long as they're properly weaned). Sweet picture of the baby!
  9. When GreycieMae was that age, we went to see her at the breeders home and she was flying around like a full grown Grey. She *may* have been 14 or 15 weeks old at that point but you could tell she was a pro flyer at that point and had been for a while. Do you plan to keep baby flighted? Can you let her out with you and see how she does. I hope you've gone through all the safety measuers: ceiling fans, cooktops, open doors etc. It takes a while to train YOUR brain to the fact you have a bird free flying in your home. One of the breeders here will know more than me about a 12 week olds flying ability but I believe it should be more controlled by now.
  10. A new baby on the forums. Enjoy, they don't stay that way very long!
  11. Looks like she has the backup-beep down pat. I heard a cat meow there too! Our GreycieMae has basically turned mute and I'm 100% convinced it's because she gets nearly 0 lockup time. My wife went to to work this last week for the first time since we've had Greycie and the birds had to go into lock down in their bird room during the day from ~8-5:30. They basically have to sit in their cages during the day as I can't trust they won't get into fights. Wife walked in one day and listened to them chattering and told me that Greycie was back to practicing her limited vocabulary - I'm sure it's out of sheer boredom that she resorts to this. Since we have them out in the aviary nearly all the time they do a lot of their natural wild calls constantly and can barely get any human talk out of any of them. They also mimic the crows, bluejays and other wild bird noises they hear but they won't mimic us unless we lock them up I guess.
  12. That's super cute! I see pictures similar to this all the time. Couple days ago some guy posted (on one of the FB groups) a video of his Grey in a box with a square cut out. It looked like a little drive up window with a Grey who came to the window babbling. Cute cute...
  13. I come home from work and this is the first thing I see when I walk in the door. Apparently GreycieMae is in charge now when I'm gone. Audio is a little hard to hear. I had to whip out the phone before I lost the opportunity... P.S. GreycieMae has a thing for going round and round. It's her absolute favorite thing to do followed closely by getting swings from Daddy on her Chain&Bell. I've been on the lookout for some kind of motor to use that I can hang her favorite perch from and it will rotate at about 15-20rpms. If you know of anything that will do this, please clue us in. All I can think of is a disco ball hanger. Most of those won't turn that fast though.
  14. Yeah, looks like he's caught the 'love bug'. Looks very frustrating for him too.
  15. You were severely punished for your in-actions! What kind of device are you using to take videos? It takes nothing to create a gmail account and upload to youtube. Would love to see it.
  16. Pics? Feel free to stick around and be a part of the Grey family.
  17. Well, you all have been doing it wrong. I stuff GreycieMae into a canvas backpack with no windows or nothing. So the Pak-o-bird will be a vast improvement over that. I actually only do that for the short back-n-forth 15foot trip to the aviary. However, she's going to start going with me to Lowes/walmart/ and to other joints in her Pak-o-bird. I've found, if she doesn't like something, I'll do it even more until she doesn't care. Poor GreycieMae has a stubborn daddy.
  18. oh man... I just spent a bulk load of money on some pak-o-birds. GreycieMae better not give me the same problem.
  19. I'd almost be willing to foster him if you have a house on the way. 2-3 years goes by *like that*. Surely someone could look after him for that amount of time? He's absolutely beautiful by the way. Is that a teal coloring? Turquoise? I've never seen that color on a GCC.
  20. So true ... (if anyone can read the name under 'created by', I'd like to know)
  21. This post really pulls at me. I showed it to my wife - answer was a 'soft' no. My first bird was a GCC named Lester. I love love loved him. Although I'm drawn to the Greys as if I was one I wish I could offer him a home. I have a secretary that has a cockatiel that told me the other day she is looking for another small bird. I often bring in sprouts and and treats for her cockatiel. Will see if she is at all interested. Makes me very sad when a bird has to lose a home because of kids. humans....
  22. I would pay more attention to how the bird reacts to you rather than the 'red factor'. These birds are not prizes or trophies to show off, they are living sentient beings and are more often mistreated by people who get into them for the completely wrong reasons: "I want a red factor" would be one of those reasons. Your best bet is to go back and interact with all three and see which one shows a real interest in you and make sure you're in the right frame of mind. These birds become a part of your family if allowed to do so. Once the novelty wears off you have a bird that requires a lot of work and time and attention. Make sure you are ready for that, don't focus on the 'red factor' want want want....
  23. Still got those baby eyes but I can see the shape of her head and face is becoming an adult. Cutie!
  24. Outsmart him! Make a sweet potatoe mash with finely chopped veggies in it. You might also try giving him the veggies only and then later give him pellets. I don't know your bird so you may not want to screw with his eating habits too much and make it worse. Ours get pellets later in the day after they've had an opportunity to eat what I've fixed them in the morning.
