  1. Oh boy. Story time: We had foundation work. They left huge cavities under our house and guess what moved in. I tried trapping, filling holes, laying down wire, nothing worked. Finally one died under the center of the house and we could smell it for over 6 months. That's when I got serious. What worked for us was mothballs OR I had cut up our dogs blankets and was putting that in the holes. The skunks moved out and came back a year or so later. I did both again immediately and they left again. I'm not sure which one worked but it was either the mothballs or the predator (my dogs) smell in the blankets. My dogs kept getting sprayed too during this time. On two occasions I saw where my dogs scored a kill but they weren't scoring fast enough to stop the chaos under the house. This was before I had parrots.
  2. Get some vet wrap and wrap it so he has better grip. Greycie sleeps on her play swing and I'm amazed she can sleep there all night. They're in another room so I'm not sure if she's ever fallen off. I have come in the next morning and she's on her food dish a couple of times. Probably what happened.
  3. You might get in contact with the folks at 'Parrot problem solving 101'. They are most active on their facebook site but they also have a website if you don't use facebook. Oneta M. Carter is the one you will need to speak with and tell her of your situation.
  4. I would say that one is a little on the small side for a Grey. I've also found those seed gaurds to be absolutely useless and they just take up real estate. I think one of the real popular cages you see a lot has an interior dimension of 30x30. That's the cage we have but my Grey is out most of the time.
  5. Hi Jara! You have an extremely cute baby there. Do you have plans for a bigger cage? That one is alright for baby as you don't want them falling etc but when she's bigger, she'll need lots of play room.
  6. Here's the hard link: Now if word gets out that tough birdy Rio has a baby blankie, don't be surprised if a lil green thug shows up on your doorstep
  7. It is Rio's baby blanket. He has to snuggle in it with mama holding him in the evenings.
  8. I remember ordering sea monkeys out of the back of my comic books. I don't know what that makes me.
  9. Yep, you're normal. Just because parrots are running your household does not make you any different for the rest of society. Nope. Not one bit.
  10. GreycieMae would like everyone to know she lives in a rough neighborhood. Typical example of one of the hooligans running around these parts: [video=youtube;Wb-wmvS3A6Y]
  11. Having fought the same mess issues in various places within our house I am always coming up with ways to battle it. The best way I've found to deal with their mess is newspaper. Try putting up some kind of peg board, decorative pin board or something that you can pin newspaper too. Newspaper is cheap and easy to replace on a daily basis. We have feeder cages we use underneath our hanging perches in the living room. You could replace hanging sheets of paper in minutes. I keep grocery store baggies available to stuff it all in. I have a table cloth on top of a coffee table, followed by one layer of newspaper, then the feeding cages. Inside those cages I cover the lower tray with one sheet, then the grate inside the cage gets a sheet. I do the same in their bird room cages. Each area takes me about 5 minutes to change out. I got tired of scrubbing dried bird shit off of everything. Once it dries it's a nightmare. That's my idea.
  12. This thread is old, but since you posted just today - you realize avocado can kill a bird right? There are some studies out there that show African Greys are particularly susceptible to the persin in avocado and it can lead to cardiac arrest. In that interest I'd like to know how much avocado you have fed your bird. Chocolate is another known killer in certain amounts however mine has stolen a chocolate bar and ate some of it with no ill affects.
  13. Greycie went through a high-pitch shrill that nearly drove me off a cliff. It finally subsided after a few months and my discovery of wearing ear plugs 24/7 while in her presence so I could completely ignore it and not react. It came back a few weeks ago for a few days but haven't heard it since. Hope it stays gone!
  14. Ahhh...a Daddy's girl. I have a particular affection for those kind of Greybies. Fortunately ours loves her mommy too.
  15. I worry about that too. Now that wifey has gone back to work for 6 weeks it's tough checking in on them with the bird room camera and they're just sitting there staring. I have to keep two of them caged while one gets the day out of the cage. We rotate who gets the day out. Greycie will play with things in her cage if I keep it stocked. I came across a toy idea on the Caique forum where I hang out: some guy used plastic chain to mount a hanging plastic toy box. He puts all kinds of toys and then hides little nuts in the mess. Greycie will love that, hopefully I can get to it this weekend.
  16. Haahhaaa....leave her a little almond surprise!
  17. How dare you call GreyceMae a fat fatty. NO beads for YOU!
  18. Don't tell GreycieMae she has to share her beads with her rotten little brother...
  19. Trying using some olive oil on the suction cups. Are your shower tiles non-porous type? Glazed ceramic etc... Ours won't stick to the windows with Miss Piggy on it because she weighs so dang much and they've chewed some of the edging on the cups off.
  20. They do love their ice baths. I can video GreycieMae because as you can see, she has her bikini on: Anything will work, even a nice stew pot! And everybirdy has their prefered way of bathing. Caiques hate ice baths. Much prefer steamy showers
  21. Better safe than sorry. I couldn't live with myself if something happened because of the intitial startup. When we start our furnace the first time each fall we get a weird smell, I make sure the birds are out of the house at that time.
  22. Sounds like he tells the Dog to be good and then tells him 'NO' too. Not sure what that was after the 'Surprise'...sounded naughty naughty. HAAA!!!!
  23. Good job Sully. Might try one of those metal foraging cages: Metal foraging cage
  24. oh gosh....she has the sweetest little voice.....
