  1. Did I hear some beat-boxing there? Watching all these talking Greys makes me jealous. I'm going to have to go home and discuss this with GreycieMae. Timbersmom, Greycie absolutely hates it when I'm on my cell phone when she's on my shoulder. She will give me a few warnings to get off of it and then if I don't heed, she will attack it and bite the crap out of my fingers. Respect the birdy!!!
  2. I guess most birds are cinnamon junkies. All three of mine love it too. Never thought about sprinkling on veggies. Up next - cinnamon veggies!!!
  3. This sounds like something that would be right at the top of GreycieMae's ordering menu. What is flax-seed bread? Is it made from flax seed or just have flax seed on the crust?
  4. ....and more vidoes/pictures of Isaac...dagblast-it
  5. This sounds like something everybirdy needs!
  6. That's common for vet wrap. You might try tennis racket tape. The stuff they wrap around the handles. Bow hunters use that on their bows specifically because it does not get tacky and leave residue.
  7. One of my co-workers has an Echo and I told him about this. He said that was ironic because just "last night" he and his wife were talking about if Sterling could train one of his birds to use the Echo what would they be doing with it. Now they know I guess.
  8. I didn't realize you had a conure. That changes things considerably. Are they in the same room during the day when you're gone (caged of course). I always thought Isaac was completely alone which always bothers me. Another bird in the same room to yack it up with all day makes a big difference. Our three make it sound like a rain forest in their room for the first few hours until they pass out around 1-2pm. Then they fire it up again around 3pm. They all seem to rip through their toys at the same time too.
  9. In your situation, where it's just you and Isaac, I'm totally for it. If there was a way to find out if they like each other and can form a birdy friendship, I truly believe it will be in Isaac's best interest. Maybe you can birdy-sit the Grey for a few days and see what happens? Going from one to two Greys I don't think is too much of a leap. We noticed a big jump when we went to three. And I'm not sure how I'm going to handle a fourth when my Aunt decides to return my Grey from 25 years ago.
  10. Yeah, we thought we had the problem taken care of too when we caught the first one....then the second one....then we got more and they kept digging holes in other places of the foundation. That's when I went scorched earth policy on the bastards. The dead one that stunk the place up for 6 months straight to the point we could never have visitors is when I decided I would eventually burn the house down if it came to that.
  11. Oh boy. Story time: We had foundation work. They left huge cavities under our house and guess what moved in. I tried trapping, filling holes, laying down wire, nothing worked. Finally one died under the center of the house and we could smell it for over 6 months. That's when I got serious. What worked for us was mothballs OR I had cut up our dogs blankets and was putting that in the holes. The skunks moved out and came back a year or so later. I did both again immediately and they left again. I'm not sure which one worked but it was either the mothballs or the predator (my dogs) smell in the blankets. My dogs kept getting sprayed too during this time. On two occasions I saw where my dogs scored a kill but they weren't scoring fast enough to stop the chaos under the house. This was before I had parrots.
  12. Get some vet wrap and wrap it so he has better grip. Greycie sleeps on her play swing and I'm amazed she can sleep there all night. They're in another room so I'm not sure if she's ever fallen off. I have come in the next morning and she's on her food dish a couple of times. Probably what happened.
  13. You might get in contact with the folks at 'Parrot problem solving 101'. They are most active on their facebook site but they also have a website if you don't use facebook. Oneta M. Carter is the one you will need to speak with and tell her of your situation.
  14. I would say that one is a little on the small side for a Grey. I've also found those seed gaurds to be absolutely useless and they just take up real estate. I think one of the real popular cages you see a lot has an interior dimension of 30x30. That's the cage we have but my Grey is out most of the time.
  15. Hi Jara! You have an extremely cute baby there. Do you have plans for a bigger cage? That one is alright for baby as you don't want them falling etc but when she's bigger, she'll need lots of play room.
  16. Here's the hard link: Now if word gets out that tough birdy Rio has a baby blankie, don't be surprised if a lil green thug shows up on your doorstep
  17. It is Rio's baby blanket. He has to snuggle in it with mama holding him in the evenings.
  18. I remember ordering sea monkeys out of the back of my comic books. I don't know what that makes me.
  19. Yep, you're normal. Just because parrots are running your household does not make you any different for the rest of society. Nope. Not one bit.
  20. GreycieMae would like everyone to know she lives in a rough neighborhood. Typical example of one of the hooligans running around these parts: [video=youtube;Wb-wmvS3A6Y]
  21. Having fought the same mess issues in various places within our house I am always coming up with ways to battle it. The best way I've found to deal with their mess is newspaper. Try putting up some kind of peg board, decorative pin board or something that you can pin newspaper too. Newspaper is cheap and easy to replace on a daily basis. We have feeder cages we use underneath our hanging perches in the living room. You could replace hanging sheets of paper in minutes. I keep grocery store baggies available to stuff it all in. I have a table cloth on top of a coffee table, followed by one layer of newspaper, then the feeding cages. Inside those cages I cover the lower tray with one sheet, then the grate inside the cage gets a sheet. I do the same in their bird room cages. Each area takes me about 5 minutes to change out. I got tired of scrubbing dried bird shit off of everything. Once it dries it's a nightmare. That's my idea.
  22. This thread is old, but since you posted just today - you realize avocado can kill a bird right? There are some studies out there that show African Greys are particularly susceptible to the persin in avocado and it can lead to cardiac arrest. In that interest I'd like to know how much avocado you have fed your bird. Chocolate is another known killer in certain amounts however mine has stolen a chocolate bar and ate some of it with no ill affects.
  23. Greycie went through a high-pitch shrill that nearly drove me off a cliff. It finally subsided after a few months and my discovery of wearing ear plugs 24/7 while in her presence so I could completely ignore it and not react. It came back a few weeks ago for a few days but haven't heard it since. Hope it stays gone!
  24. Ahhh...a Daddy's girl. I have a particular affection for those kind of Greybies. Fortunately ours loves her mommy too.
