  1. GreycieMae does weird requests! Second photo came out a little blurry... Huey looks nearly identical to her.
  2. My main go to is a combination of 'Volkman Seed Featherglow Fancy Soak & Simmer' and 'Volkman Birdeez Buffet / 15 Minute Soak & Serve'. I cook a 3 day supply of those two and I also add sprouts to the mix. Then I add whatever is around: banana, jalapenos, leafy lettuce. They go wild over it every morning.
  3. Cage looks awesome. I feed a mix of Harrison's lifetime or high potency (my birds are very active in aviaries all day), Zupreme Naturals and Tropican Lifetime pellets - all mixed together. I buy all the pellets in the same size as the Harrison's 'fine' size. We found that with the larger pellets, when they crack them, the pellets go flying in all directions and there was a ton of waste. In addition to limit waste I also use a Seed Corral which really helps. They're not as prone to carry a pellet out of the feeder when they are nibble sized too. Also, keep your pellets in the freezer, they last a long time that way. Pellets are a very small portion of our birds diet though. We mainly feed cookables which I supplement with whatever fresh/frozen chopped up veggies daily.
  4. That's the exact same cage I have (I have two of them), and as you've observed A LOT of people have that cage. It's plenty big enough, you'll just need to fill it with toys!
  5. Huey used to be nervous outside of his cage. Unfortunately (not really!) for him, we're a cage-less house except for nighty-night time and he just had to deal with it. It didn't take him but a few months till he was flying around and acting like the place was his - particularly his swingy rope in the kitchen where he now commands his ship, orders the chef around etc... Huey tends to bite, usually only me as he prefers the ladies, when I try to put him on his rope perches. He'll step up and immediately take a swipe a my hand. He's got me a few times at the base of the thumb and ripped me open good. He's super naughty that way. I quickly learned to make him step up to the rope, never step back, because then his rope is between him and my hand. I can pull down and back and he can't get me although he's learned to hang onto me with one foot and can still get me occasionally. We've had him 9 months now and I'm just now getting to the point where he will let me pet him down the back (he doesn't take it as sexual with me at least) and give him a kiss on the beak and give him a hug. 9 long months!
  6. Not sure where in the world you are located but my female Grey has just started losing feathers in bulk. I guess she's molting as she's not a plucker. We have full feathers all over the place suddenly like what's in your photo.
  7. Any updates on this guy? He reminds me of Huey, looks just like him in the photo above. Huey has trust issues too but he's figured out how to get his hoomans to be at his beck (peck?) and call 😂
  8. Yep, it's our naughty Huey. Now shame him, he deserves it 😂
  9. Somebirdy needs a good shaming....
  10. Yep, sounds like a crappy wing clip. It will take a few months to grow back but they really do love to fly. Just safe-guard your exits and they'll love you for it.
  11. Can you post a pic of his nails? Putting a parrot to sleep is risky business.
  12. Is it just the flight feathers that are messed up or are the wings mangled?
  13. Our Huey does the microwave beep too when he wants one of us (mostly my wife). I would get used to using your hand to get him to step up. Use a treat to distract him onto your hand so he's not contemplating a bite. He may not be a biter. It's sounds like both of you scored a great deal! I would love to see pics of Diego.
  14. She's actually playing there. We were playing stoopid hooman sticks his hand in the pot and screams game. She will get super fluffly like that hanging from her rope or her net too. When she's on her net, she'll flip over backwards all puffed up and dare you to stick your hand in her fluff...you may lose it You should see how bedtime goes around here. She really gets puffy and bitey then - hates going to bed, just like a little kid.
  15. Awww, that sweet baby face! Looks like you have a great setup. Once baby gets bigger he'll be able to protect himself. I had to keep the reins on GreycieMae until Huey came out of his shell. He then stamped his authority and he's the only bird she can't bully. Greys can definitely take care of themselves against each other - when full grown.
  16. Our Grey Huey is 21 and was not a flyer. We got him on Dec 1st of 2017 and by end of January he was flying, not real graceful but flying...lots of crash landings. I started him out by just giving him a toss onto our bed over and over. Once he got the idea, he started trying to fly on his own and we had some scary moments as he had some very hard landings. I spent about a month flying out of my chair to go provide a landing arm for him when he would launch himself because he was not real good about hitting his landing rope/etc. and would then crash hard. Eventually he's gotten very good at hitting landings and rarely crashes anymore. He's even flown down our hallway and turned and came back which is pretty amazing for such a large bird. He'll never be super acrobatic like our Greycie that learned as a baby but he's a flyer now.
  17. Wife is on this weirdo diet, called the Keto diet. Reduced carbs, increased meats and fats and who knows what else. Today's dinner will be a nice red-tailed jungle chicken dish. I got the meat and fat-fatty covered. Me and Huey are anxiously awaiting the result. MmmmMmmmm...goood.
  18. I have two African Greys with breakfast beards in my food bowl
  19. I'll bet he was pretty clumsy! Huey crash-landed into everything for a couple months before he got his muscles and skills built up. He can now turn around in the hallway like GreycieMae. He's not as talented as her but he gets around.
  20. Great pictures. Love seeing the progress, and so fast too. He knows he bought a winning ticket.
  21. I have around 40 pigeons, high-flyer and homing, plus around 60 chickens. Have no idea what a bird mite is. Maybe one of those mythical bs fake news critters. with my pigeons, canker is the problem. my chickens, coccidiossis (sp?). no mites whatsoever.
  22. We're convinced our Huey worked in a call center prior to coming to live here. He has the most business sounding polite "Hello?" I've ever heard. And he only does it when the phone rings.
  23. That's one way to get a pet. I'll have to try it myself 🤣
  24. I'd give a couple or three weeks on the nail trim.
  25. Looks like you have a nice setup for him. I would say he's asking to slow things down a little with his new situation. They always settle down, it just may take a while. It took our Huey about 6 months to come out of his shell.
