  1. I have four house cats. They are truly house cats, having never been outside except for trips to the vet. They have seemly zero hunter instrinct. I have never had a problem. In fact, Timber tends to torment them for his own amusement and they mostly ignore him. That said, I would never, ever leave them unattended when Timber is not locked in the cage. Accidents can be fatal or expensive and traumatic if nothing else. I wouldn't risk it for anything.
  2. Glad things worked out well for Sophie and the birdsitter! It makes it easier to enjoy your vacation when things are going well at home
  3. Timber certainly eats better than any of us! Acappella is exactly right though. If you are eating, your grey expects to eat as well. Preferably while standing on the edge of your plate. They are flock animals after all! I add red palm oil to some of Timber's food for health. I'm not sure about coconut oil, hopefully someone with more knowledge about diet will answer that one.
  4. When Lilly gets settled in, you might try foraging toys. They usually enjoy those and it kills some time. You can buy several different kinds or make your own by wrapping food (like a nut or a nutriberry) in paper. When I was working, I would take a small paper bag and stuff it with shredded paper, food wrapped in twists of paper, and that type of thing and put it in Timber's cage.
  5. How terrible! I sure feel for you. It sounds like things are "normalizing" a bit already.
  6. Same experience here Sterling. Tried raw, baked, mashed, etc. etc. and not a glimmer of interest.
  7. Hello and welcome! My advice would be to read the forum "stickies" and ask any questions you may have. There are many experienced grey owners on the forum who are always willing to help. Good luck and God bless
  8. Hello and welcome! You are in for an adventure if you haven't owned a grey before. Many of us have other pets. How well they get along depends on each animals temperament. Cats and dogs have a hunting instinct. It is stronger in some than others. Accidents happen quickly, so you will need to monitor them very closely if they are out at the same time in the same area. Good luck and God bless
  9. Timber is like Dorian, he likes his adding machine tape roll and any cardboard box. He is also fond of plastic straws. Other than that, forget it on the boys. Except for bells, can't forget the bells...
  10. Hello and welcome! Yes, please post some pics of Cookie and Molly when you can!
  11. LOL Acappella, I feel like I'm finally home (back among the crazies)
  12. What a neat video Sterling! That is the exact type pan (even down to the design) I use for Timber. In his case I set it in the bottom of his cage when he is throwing water from his water bowl on himself. He will often dive right in. He has to be in the mood of course. Neoow, that looks very interesting. I suspect it would take Timber a year of looking at it to venture near it though
  13. Looks great! I thought for a minute she was going to take the plunge and hop in for a bath...
  14. Awww beautiful baby! How much fun it must be to raise her!
  15. I rehomed Timber. For the first couple of months, scratches through the cage bars were all he was interested in, and that usually at bed time. As time passed and he started trusting me, we progressed to scratches outside the cage and later to cuddle sessions with him on my arm with his beak down again my stomach giving me access to his head and neck. It takes time, sometimes a lot of time (as in Miss Gilbert's case) but it is usually a matter of time and trust building. I might add though that all grey's are very individual. Some really enjoy scritches, others not so much.
  16. What a joy it must be to see Kilaya flying as God intended. Always love watching your videos
  17. I have plenty of space so I just put the cages side by side (touching). After Timber started spending more time in the new one than the old one, I removed the old one.

    Eggs

I'm not sure if I am correct, and would welcome input from others, but when I make birdy bread I just wash the eggs well before cracking, mash the shells up pretty fine, and add them to the bread. I'm assuming that after they cook in the bread at 350 for 30 minutes any bacteria etc. would be killed.
  19. Thanks Nancy, I'll keep that in mind!
  20. Thanks! Nancy, I just might have a question. We have a pic (sp) line and bandages changes going here so you never know!
