  1. LOL Love the pic! We are gamers at our house too. Just remember that Elwood, like a toddler, will latch on to any words you'd prefer he didn't say, so watch your mouth next time you take a dive on the game!
  2. Time and patience! Sounds like you are doing great to me. Keep offering him the seed in your hand and I suspect Motu will decide it is worth the risk in time. It is like a hump to get over. Once he takes that first seed from your hand it will get easier and easier for him I'm guessing!
  3. LOL Great video! I'd like to see his current performance. He was doing pretty well even then.
  4. I'm sorry he tried to bite you, but that's really interesting about him understanding the relationship between the shadows and the person/bird making them! I wish I was better at bird psychology and body language, but rarely can I figure out what makes Timber behave the way he does. When he bites, it hurts my feelings to be frank. Then I have to remember to breath and just walk away.
  5. Timber beeps when he is excited and it's hard to interpret. He will do it when he is annoyed, but he also does it when he is playing, so it seems to be a sign of excitement (good or bad) with him.
  6. I'm afraid that is the way it would be here as well. At any rate, I wouldn't plan on having any family additions until Timber has been here a year or so. I want him to feel very established and comfortable before I rock his world again!
  7. I've had Timber about 3 months now. My husband still isn't his favorite, but he is 20 times better than he was with him! I see improvement as time goes by, and you probably will too. It's possible Momo had a really bad experience with a man (or men)? Yes, I think they know gender. I'd assume by smell like most animals.
  8. http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?196737-Feeding-Toucans&p=265990#post265990 There you go! Toucan poo...
  9. Ouch! It does hurt emotionally and physically. I've always wondered exactly what they are thinking when they do something like that... guess we'll never know!
  10. Oh no, you missed them! We did indeed get the toucan poop pics. I don't have the thread marked. Maybe Sara can point you that way.
  11. Love the pics! Thanks for posting them. I don't have a lot of experience, but greys seem a lot like children. First experiences are scary, but after they get used to it they are fine. The last time Elwood traveled (if I'm remembering right) he had to leave home, the people he knew and go to a completely new environment. This time, he saw that he was staying with you and started relaxing about the situation. He sure looks healthy and happy in the pics
  12. Timber often hangs on the bottom of his cage door when he is out. One of these days, I'm going to get up the nerve to put my hand under his back. I'll probably come back with a bloody stub, but I'll never know until I try!
  13. Teri, he will figure that out, and worse!
  14. LOL Ray! That would be my luck... I can't get Timber to sing anything. he will click at appropriate moments in some songs and enjoys some music I can tell. If he did sing, I can imagine him being totally off key, which would drive me bonkers since I have a bit of an "ear" for music. I'm sure I'd learn to love it anyway though, if he enjoyed it.
  15. Enjoyed the pics. Thanks for sharing
  16. LOL Now you have to wonder what surprise may await you some day when you come home... I really wouldn't mind having another bird, and would really like to in a way. My worry is time. Timber is a bit "needy" and sometimes I feel like I can't give him as much attention as I want due to work and family stuff. So I ask myself, what if I get another bird and that one wants my attention (not Gary's) too? As well as the where or where would I put another cage etc.
  17. Wow, great pic! I wish you could get him on video interacting with his shadow...
  18. Little stinker indeed! Do you ever have the feeling they think you are big and slow and are just toying with you? That's how I feel sometimes. Timber likes to play "pull the paper out of the bottom of the cage before she gets here" with me. He climbs down his cage and starts pulling the paper I use as a cage liner out (when he is on the outside of the cage). As soon as I start that way he runs back up the cage and just looks at me. Round and round we go!
  19. Actually, I caught Gary looking at Amazon pictures today... Time will tell!
  20. LOL The bird and a camera would be a horrible thing here! I'd be singing "they're coming to take me away" if he recorded some of my antics, usually trying to get him to do things. I swear he's looking at me thinking, "what are you nuts, only an idiot would eat/do that?" I think he sees me as his "special" human
  21. LOL to the rescue from the seahag mental picture! I can imagine how happy Gary would be if Timber showed a preference for him. As you said, that could change at any time.
  22. That's great! Cuddle time is non-negotiable around here. No matter what else is going on or what time I get home, we have our time. He expects it and we both enjoy it
  23. Progress indeed! I'll bet your husband was just tickled, whether he admits it or not Timber is tolerating my husband very well, but he won't step up or let him give him scratches. Yesterday Gary said, "Are you planning to get another bird? Timber might like company." I was totally surprised by that and said "No, I wasn't thinking about it." He looked disappointed. Then it hit me, and I said "You want a bird that will be "yours" don't you?" He looked a little shame-faced but said "Well, that would be nice." You just never know!
  24. Well Timber's first chicken wing was a success! I gave him the wing with the meat mostly stripped off. It obviously wasn't his first rodeo. He was gnawing on the end and I started putting things away and doing other stuff in the kitchen. About five minutes later I heard it hit the cage bottom. I thought "Oh well, he's not going to eat the marrow." I went over to retrieve it and throw it away and found two bones, stripped clean, totally empty and looking polished. He was looking pleased with himself and life in general. Now my question is, how often should I give him a wing?
