  1. Yes, I enjoyed seeing all the pics. It was really tough when voting! Congratulations to the winners
  2. Interesting read! Thanks for sharing.
  3. No pro here Katie, but I start by spraying Timber (which he likes). Sometimes, but not nearly every time, he will follow that by going to his water bowl and throwing water over his shoulder. That is my cue to get the heavy glass baking dish and put an inch and a half of water in it. He will dive right in. If he doesn't want to take a bath, the dish can sit there all day and he won't go near it. Like many other things, it is on his terms and not happening any other way. When it comes to bathing, I can live with that.
  4. And nothing makes them happier than a loud noise they originate. If Timber has nothing to throw, he makes this very load noise that I cannot even explain (uses that to scare the cats). So funny to watch their pleasure when they can make a ruckus!
  5. I ordered some the of the Harrison's birdie bread yesterday and also some red palm oil. Can't wait to try it!
  6. Yes, it is hurtful. And there is the fear that you have undone all the progress made. He still isn't 100% back to where we were, but improving daily. It takes so long to build that trust, then you feel like you have blown it. Hearing that others have birds that react the same way is reassuring, thanks!
  7. Someone posted here a day or two ago that it can take two years for a clip to fully grow out. Timber had a light clip when I brought him home this past June. After his bath yesterday, he was on top of the cage flapping his wings and could barely hold on, so I am assuming he is getting some "lift" back?
  8. Happy Hatchday Chloe! I agree, time certainly does "fly" by...
  9. Jan, my first thought was what you said about "holding both hands up like a surgeon." Timber is "hand shy" a bit. He sees an open hand as a threat. I start scratching him even with one finger until he relaxes. Probably not the case with your bird, but just a thought!
  10. Never ceases to amaze me how they can make those connections!
  11. LOL Looks like Joe is nodding in agreement to them!
  12. It is good to know that his behavior is "normal" at any rate! Just like with my kids, I think it hurts me more than it hurts them...
  13. As I've mentioned in other posts, Timber and I had a major bump in our relationship. His nails had gotten long enough to impede his movement, and I took him to the vet for a trim and a check-up. That was the Saturday after Christmas. Until today, he has wanted nothing to do with me. Didn't want to "go" like he usually does, didn't want me touching him etc. In fact, when I would ask if he wanted to go (our version of step up) he would go straight in the cage. Monday night, he finally stretched his head toward me for a scratch. After a couple nights of that, he finally stepped up and went in the living room with me tonight. After that, we sat down and had our old cuddle time, just like before. What a relief! I didn't think his behavior was permanent, but I was worried... I guess the nail clipping really traumatized him since he had to be toweled. Whew. Hopefully, we are good for another six months!
  14. Good for Sophie! They always manage to surprise us with their ability to learn.
  15. Agreed. Timber doesn't beg, he demands
  16. Glad to hear they are "getting along!" I'd love to see some pics of Clarice when you have time.
  17. Ah yes, the pet names our birds have for us. Since the first event, Timber calls each and every one of us "asshole" if we do something that displeases him. Just warms the heart And yes, it is hard not to laugh because he uses it so appropriately! In his mind at least...
  18. Yes, it is really sad that your friend isn't willing to work through things, but it is common. When I rehomed Timber, I had NO idea about the baggage, etc. I thought I would just bring him home, put him in the cage, buy the proper feed, and all would be well. What I'm trying to say is that "ignorance" is common among people who want a bird. They think they are like cats and dogs. Had I not found this forum, Timber would have probably spent the rest of his life confined primarily to his cage. I wouldn't have even had the sense to rehome him if I couldn't deal with it!
  19. I wonder how much Timber eats of it too, but I'm betting he gets a bite or two. That is certainly his favorite veggie to "destroy." You are lucky to get them for $1 Wingy! They are $1.78 here. I hang his on the skewer raw.
