  1. How sad for all of you! I agree with Dan and Talon. I don't have that much experience, but I know Timber strives to be in the middle of things at our house, calling when he is alone in a room and trying to interact with us, even the cats. They are have a flock mentality and can't thrive without one in my opinion. You and your family are Babalu's flock now, and he needs contact and interaction.
  2. Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed the pics and the video. Funny about the birds and cats (I assume dogs as well but don't have one). I've noticed that when one of the cats gives a distressed meow, Timber will sound his alert (that short sharp whistle). The other day Timber was on his play stand with me in the living room. One of the cats started coughing (hairball) and Timber probably did the alert whistle ten times until the cat stopped. I'm assuming they assume the cats are part of their flock and are sounding some kind of alert? Just curious. I didn't know if you had noticed anything similar since you have a cat.
  3. LOL Looked like Storm was having a good time! They seem to prefer cold water like Ray said, so I doubt the cold feet are cause for worry if the room temp is normal.
  4. Welcome to you, Shiloh and Bailey! You are right about the grapes, greys aren't supposed to have much fruit. Favorite treats at my house include pine nuts, cashews and walnuts. I can get all of those unsalted, and they are good for them in small quantities. Good luck!
  5. Excellent post and excellent advice for you there from Acappella. I take Timber for a nail trim about every six months (he sleeps on a concrete perch but still needs a trim). That is really something that is "bird specific."
  6. Tango looks like he wants to say "turn the shower on already, where are you?!"
  7. How great for you that Quinn is a "talker!" It seems to me like they are similar to toddlers. They do a lot of babbling, then begin using language and phrases appropriately when the time is right. LOL to Tango's making the link to your "cb" relative. Fortunately for all of us, most of the relatives don't understand how smart they are. It could get embarrassing!
  8. Great progress! Happy for both of you
  9. And the same to you Ray and your flock
  10. Good thought Steve. Timber loves pizza too, especially if it is sausage. Misty is probably grinding Parmesan!
  11. Is Bella flighted or clipped? Do you leave the cage door open and let her come out if she wants or keep it closed? It took about two months for me to get Timber (rehomed him last summer, he is about 5) to step up.
  12. I know just what you mean. Once I was just sure Timber had his foot hung (he was hanging on his bell). Not so though. He's a "bell-hanger" too.
  13. Glad you have the move over and glad Alfie took it in stride! Sometimes they are more adaptable than we expect. I'm always surprised at what Timber isn't afraid of, and what he is!
  14. Anything at all different on the screaming days? Does he sense your illness and is he reacting to it? I was just wondering. There has to be some sort of trigger?
  15. Hello and welcome Dan and Bella. She is a beautiful bird! I'm relatively new to greys too. From other posts I've read and from my own experience with Timber, they have very definite likes and dislikes. Time and trust will help as the others have said. However, Bella may never like to have her feet touched. As long as she can step up and down without issues, I'd avoid her feet. They all have their little quirks, which is one of the things that makes them so interesting. The fact that she allows you to scratch her head is a good sign and a pretty big deal (in my opinion). It is possible that she had a bad experience with someone holding her feet, a bad nail clip or who knows what. Greys never forget, so anything that happened to her in the first two years will stay with her. That is what all of us with a rehomed grey deal with. Their past experiences, good or bad, affect how we interact with them. Good luck and God bless
  16. What an amazing change in Joe from the earlier posts I read about him. The resiliency and intellect of greys never ceases to surprise me.
  17. I'd bet she does it Nancy, but maybe you just aren't hearing it. It isn't terribly loud like some of their noises, but it can definitely be heard. Whether she does it or not makes no difference as long as you know she is happy and content
  18. LOL to the zoo. Too true to never knowing what is around the corner!
  19. Good job! I wish Timber had been harness trained. If I tried now I'm afraid I'd come back with a bloody stump...
  20. Oh no! Following that logic I'm due for two more parrots!
  21. I'm with you there! I got my TAG when my last child went to college. He really does fill a gap for me! Mutual benefit situation Chico is really coming along! Fascinating to observe their progress
  22. My Timneh has 3/4 inch bar spacing and hasn't had any problems with it. More experienced people will chime in
  23. Good deal! That is a real blessing. I still put Harrison's in (have for six months now) but I don't think Timber takes even one nibble.
  24. What a good report! Timber starts vocalizing any time he knows my attention is taken by anything but his fine self, so no surprise that Strorm takes off during the soaps!
  25. Timber is a grinder. Sometimes when he is getting ready for bed or before taking a nap, sometimes when he is on my arm if it is late. Grind, grind, grind. Sure glad I read here early on that it was normal! Otherwise I would have thought it was stress.
