  1. So sorry to hear this Ray! My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
  2. Keep thinking that way murfchck...
  3. Timber's is rather pleasant (to my ears). He does a sort of chirp sound then a whistle. Wish I could tape it but he only does it when he hears me getting up in the morning or hears me coming home in the evening. His "hey, get in here" noises vary from annoying to coaxing.
  4. LOL Reminds me of a rather expensive and inoffensive looking toy I bought for Timber. It was a bundle of fiberous straw type things which is similar to one he already has hanging in his cage (he loves that one). It is slightly bigger and has different colors. After watching him give it the stink eye from a distance for six months, I gave up and put it away.
  5. Those pinches hurt too! Sometimes more than a bite I think. It's always live and learn though
  6. Funny about the food jar. They are attracted (and repelled) by the oddest things.
  7. Dayo is a cutie! Thanks for sharing
  8. Very interesting to watch their interaction with other animals (in my opinion). I have four cats. The cats ignore Timber for the most part. They will stick their paws up on his cage and peer at him through the bars once in awhile. He will let them know he doesn't appreciate it much the way Alfie does, by biting at the cage bars. Timber, on the other hand, is very interested in the cats' behavior and movements. He makes a very loud noise (can't really describe it but like something hitting the floor) when they are all in the room then laugh when they all startle and run. He also like to hang off the bottom of his cage when out and try to get a nibble of their tails when they pass under him. I have to say he doesn't bite hard though, because they just look startled rather than yowling. Like you, I don't take chances with him being too close to each other because you never know. He certainly has the meow perfected! When I'm in another room, I can't tell if it is Timber or one of the cats. I just thought the "alert" was interesting and wondered if anyone else's bird did that!
  9. Your lack of experience has nothing to do with her not appreciating you as the parent... She's the boss and she knows it. You just need a little more training!
  10. What a fun video Dan! I love Dayo's expression. The initial stealth as he headed toward the faucet, then the nah, nah, nah when he left it on.
  11. How sad for all of you! I agree with Dan and Talon. I don't have that much experience, but I know Timber strives to be in the middle of things at our house, calling when he is alone in a room and trying to interact with us, even the cats. They are have a flock mentality and can't thrive without one in my opinion. You and your family are Babalu's flock now, and he needs contact and interaction.
  12. Thanks for sharing! I enjoyed the pics and the video. Funny about the birds and cats (I assume dogs as well but don't have one). I've noticed that when one of the cats gives a distressed meow, Timber will sound his alert (that short sharp whistle). The other day Timber was on his play stand with me in the living room. One of the cats started coughing (hairball) and Timber probably did the alert whistle ten times until the cat stopped. I'm assuming they assume the cats are part of their flock and are sounding some kind of alert? Just curious. I didn't know if you had noticed anything similar since you have a cat.
  13. LOL Looked like Storm was having a good time! They seem to prefer cold water like Ray said, so I doubt the cold feet are cause for worry if the room temp is normal.
  14. Welcome to you, Shiloh and Bailey! You are right about the grapes, greys aren't supposed to have much fruit. Favorite treats at my house include pine nuts, cashews and walnuts. I can get all of those unsalted, and they are good for them in small quantities. Good luck!
  15. Excellent post and excellent advice for you there from Acappella. I take Timber for a nail trim about every six months (he sleeps on a concrete perch but still needs a trim). That is really something that is "bird specific."
  16. Tango looks like he wants to say "turn the shower on already, where are you?!"
  17. How great for you that Quinn is a "talker!" It seems to me like they are similar to toddlers. They do a lot of babbling, then begin using language and phrases appropriately when the time is right. LOL to Tango's making the link to your "cb" relative. Fortunately for all of us, most of the relatives don't understand how smart they are. It could get embarrassing!
  18. Great progress! Happy for both of you
  19. And the same to you Ray and your flock
  20. Good thought Steve. Timber loves pizza too, especially if it is sausage. Misty is probably grinding Parmesan!
  21. Is Bella flighted or clipped? Do you leave the cage door open and let her come out if she wants or keep it closed? It took about two months for me to get Timber (rehomed him last summer, he is about 5) to step up.
  22. I know just what you mean. Once I was just sure Timber had his foot hung (he was hanging on his bell). Not so though. He's a "bell-hanger" too.
  23. Glad you have the move over and glad Alfie took it in stride! Sometimes they are more adaptable than we expect. I'm always surprised at what Timber isn't afraid of, and what he is!
