  1. Dan made a good point (one of several) about putting perches for him to stand on while he eats. I have one of those cactus wood types between Timber's bowls (One for pellets and seeds, one for fresh food). He will always stand on the perch, reach over, get something then stand on the perch to eat it. The perch is about level with the top of the bowls. His water bowl can be accessed from the long perch (similar to the one in your pic). He will stand on the edge of the bowls once in awhile, but most often he stands on the perch to eat or drink. The perch you have on the outside for him now looks a lot more comfortable! I am not sure what you mean about not being able to move the perch. It you take that nut you can see off the end, you can move it? You don't take the screw out of the perch.
  2. I do something similar with Timber. We have our longest cuddle session right before bed. He is more receptive then than at any other time of the day anyway. I say "ready for bed" several times while I'm scratching around his head and beak, then "let's go to bed" when I take him back to the cage. He knows to climb right up on the perch he sleeps on and wait for his cashew.
  3. Very interesting. When Timber gets sleepy he goes into his cage. I assume he feels safe and protected there. As murfchck said, I'd put him in the cage to sleep. Besides desctruction, there are other things they can get into if left out unsupervised for long periods. I would think that the cage door would be hard on his feet for sleep in the long run. I could be wrong about that though. I don't have a lot of experience myself!
  4. I just can't even watch this stuff...
  5. I don't have multiple birds, so I probably can't be of help. The only thing that comes to mind is to put Paco in time-out (in cage) every time he flys to Koko's cage. He's smart, he will figure it out. I also understand your fear though. I have cats and I turn into a screaming banshee every time Timber decides he has to be on the floor. They all look at me like I'm insane, but injuries can happen so quickly.
  6. Well Timber enjoyed removing the screw, but I got tired of fishing the dowels out of the cage papers, washing everything and giving him his 10 seconds of fun again! I'm a bbbbbad parront
  7. Yes, loved the video! Sully certainly has a lot to say, and it will get clearer and clearer.
  8. Tony is a looker! Congratulations and good luck!
  9. That is a dilemma. Yes, it would be difficult to find someone who could deal with a flighted bird (in my area anyway) for a week. The only other choice would have probably been no out of cage time for the duration of your hospital stay. Sometimes we just do what we have to do. Don't feel bad, we make decisions based on available information at the time, and sometimes there just aren't any great options. Best wishes and prayers for a quick recovery!
  10. LOL That is exactly what Timber did! It took me much longer to assemble the hut and put it in the cage than for him to remove the screw and get the goodies. Ha.
  11. Yes, beautiful birds! Thanks for sharing
  12. Cool video! George looks like a real character. What a joy he must be
  13. What a great first week! So happy to hear Inara has settled in and is showing her personality so much already. What a joy Also, I got a kick out of the "OCD is a terrible thing to waste." Haaaaa!
  14. Hello and welcome to you and George As Dan said, we love pics, especially baby pics. Post some when you get a chance and keep us updated on your progress
  15. Be sure and post the results (in scientific format please) of your experiments Ray
  16. Hello and welcome Carrie! Sorry to hear about your loss of your grandmother, but happy that you will be able to take care of her bird! I just rehomed my TAG last year, so there are others here who can give you more advice about the cage. I can tell you that given plenty of time, Baby will adjust to a new home and new people. Knowing her history and having some idea about the care she received is a big plus. You aren't a total stranger, and you know she wasn't mistreated. Just give her time to adjust and learn to trust you and all will be well
  17. I think you have this whipped Ray! Link worked like a charm. Bacon and Cocoa are cuties.
  18. Hello and welcome A few things I'd ask: normal bedtime/rise time any fears gender if known breeder info if known favorite type of toy (i.e. wood, cardboard, etc.) Those things may not be important but I'd want all the info I could get.
  19. LOL Guess some things just come "naturally"
