  1. Yes it is! I love to go to the twice yearly bird fair, but it is always bittersweet. I find neat stuff and love looking at the birds, but there is always that tug to take a particularly friendly or needy looking one home with me...
  2. No experience and nothing to add here, but what a decision you have there! I wonder how long the average bird has to wear his collars and how successful they usually are. I have a logical mind and always have to see the statistics...
  3. That is what I always think when I start getting symptoms of MBS. Timber is very demanding of my time and attention, and I only have so much. I always manage to talk myself out of getting another because of that. I work outside my home, so it is all I can do to give Timber adequate out of cage time and attention. Kudos to those who can manage it, but for now one bird is all I can handle!
  4. Hello and welcome Deltadawn Yes, post some pics when you can. It sounds like you have a very interesting flock!
  5. Poor baby indeed, but we do what we have to do! One of my cats had a urinary tract infection and we had to give him a pill for 14 days running. What a nightmare. However, all's well that ends well, and we have to do what is necessary for their health! The cone will soon be a thing of the past.
  6. Corky doesn't waste any time undoing that latch for you huh? Enjoyed the video, thanks for posting
  7. LOL They are so funny with their like and dislikes, where they like to hang out etc. Yes, if you weren't used to birds, it would be a shock!
  8. LOL, cute and definitely a whale! Thanks for sharing
  9. I keep an Edenpure heater clone in Timber's room to keep the temp up, since I keep my house pretty cool.
  10. Watch for sales on cages. Also, there are good buys to be had on ebay. They have new as well as used there. Comparison shopping is important when it comes to a cage, the variation in price can be $100's...
  11. Yes, Emma looks so pretty in the video! Not a "hair" out of place. She is so interactive with you. What a great relationship you have
  12. He should be able to reach into the bowl with his beak from the perch (if possible). Timber is a TAG, so he is on the small side. Sometimes he will put one foot on the edge of the bowl, leave the other on the perch, reach in a get what he wants then put both feet on the perch to eat it. I hope someone with more experience will come along and address this. Timber has several perches (different sizes and materials) in his cage and he uses them all. Since he can't fly in the cage, he likes to have lots of things to step on as he navigates around. Some might not like it so cluttered.
  13. I put forage stuff for Timber in paper sacks and cardboard boxes (both of which he loves). He will eat the stuff he wants then demolish the sack or box at his leisure. Looks like you have a good thing going there!
  14. Dan made a good point (one of several) about putting perches for him to stand on while he eats. I have one of those cactus wood types between Timber's bowls (One for pellets and seeds, one for fresh food). He will always stand on the perch, reach over, get something then stand on the perch to eat it. The perch is about level with the top of the bowls. His water bowl can be accessed from the long perch (similar to the one in your pic). He will stand on the edge of the bowls once in awhile, but most often he stands on the perch to eat or drink. The perch you have on the outside for him now looks a lot more comfortable! I am not sure what you mean about not being able to move the perch. It you take that nut you can see off the end, you can move it? You don't take the screw out of the perch.
  15. I do something similar with Timber. We have our longest cuddle session right before bed. He is more receptive then than at any other time of the day anyway. I say "ready for bed" several times while I'm scratching around his head and beak, then "let's go to bed" when I take him back to the cage. He knows to climb right up on the perch he sleeps on and wait for his cashew.
  16. Very interesting. When Timber gets sleepy he goes into his cage. I assume he feels safe and protected there. As murfchck said, I'd put him in the cage to sleep. Besides desctruction, there are other things they can get into if left out unsupervised for long periods. I would think that the cage door would be hard on his feet for sleep in the long run. I could be wrong about that though. I don't have a lot of experience myself!
  17. I just can't even watch this stuff...
  18. I don't have multiple birds, so I probably can't be of help. The only thing that comes to mind is to put Paco in time-out (in cage) every time he flys to Koko's cage. He's smart, he will figure it out. I also understand your fear though. I have cats and I turn into a screaming banshee every time Timber decides he has to be on the floor. They all look at me like I'm insane, but injuries can happen so quickly.
  19. Well Timber enjoyed removing the screw, but I got tired of fishing the dowels out of the cage papers, washing everything and giving him his 10 seconds of fun again! I'm a bbbbbad parront
  20. Yes, loved the video! Sully certainly has a lot to say, and it will get clearer and clearer.
