They are so good at knowing. Maverick knows around 8:30 he gets his formula and then 9:00ish is "Nite-nite" time. As soon as we return downstairs from the formula feeding, he gets grumpy, snippy, and doesn't want to step up or be touched. I haven't found a way around that yet so I know how you feel!

What a handsome guy!!! Do you have a name picked out? I remember that feeling of knowing nothing despite months and months of research. I still am on here constantly reading and asking!! If he is anything like my boy, though, he will let you know what he wants... and he won't be subtle Hahaha!!

Oh I absolutely welcome it, there are just times when I need him to stay on his perch or playstand or I have to put him in the cage which I like to avoid at all costs when I am home. When I am cooking, for example, it is not safe for him to physically be on me,

I'll check out this video! What app are you using?

Oh yes, I know all about Alex Such a brilliant bird he was! I never knew about the alphabet but I knew he did shapes and colors and such. I just worry Mav will start developing bad habits out of boredom. I am having trouble getting him to play on his basket or stand because he always wants to be on me and chewing my hair haha. Though I like that he wants to be near me, it's not always feasible to have a parrot sitting on your head and I would rather he be able to be out and playing rather than in his cage at those times. His flying to me is also a hazard to his health simply because he's so quick and I don't always get to him in time to prevent a crash landing. The poor guy only has 3 tail feathers right now from learning to fly in the beginning.

Just curious if anyone has had any success in their fid learning the alphabet? I have started doing Alphabet flash cards with Maverick. It was more an interaction thing, as he does not really play with toys and he enjoys looking at the pictures and bright colors on the cards. (I am running out of ideas on how to keep him occupied.. a whole separate problem!!!) I just didn't know whether to reasonably expect that he will ever learn them or not

This one I purchased about a month ago cost me.... you ready?....150 bucks!!! Eeeeek I could die when I see what you made out of things I have so readily available. Live and learn I suppose. I want one for the downstairs area as well so that is the one I will be building. Bet it comes out better than the purchased one, too!

I am so terribly sorry to read this. I know there are few things that can comfort you right now, but please know my warmest thoughts and prayers are being sent your way.

Those are fantastic!!! Thanks for providing pics! I know what I will be constructing this weekend Any types of trees to avoid? I know I saw a list on here somewhere pertaining to safe woods.. (Or maybe that was another site??).
-
I thought about this. I was also wanting to make a "Tree" playstand using some branches from my parents home. They live in a wooded area where I know nothing is treated chemically so it would be safe in that respect. Have you done this? What do I need to do to the wood once I get it home?

That is so bizzare!! What is it with greys and cell phones by the way??! Mine will swarm to it the second he gets a glimpse of it!

Oh I would just LOVE to see a video of this! Sounds ADORABLE!

AAAAHAHAHAHA... That picture just made my morning, Steve!!! Very accurate

Hahaha.. Thanks! Yes, that is where we usually settle for the evening. I watch TV or work on the laptop (ATTEMPT to anyway..) and he usually sits there and plays on his basket or does a nice job of distracting me. He just LOVES those head rubs, though. Sometimes he wants them for no reason and will start chirping and laying his head down, and other times he just does it when I tell him to step up and he would rather not Little Smarty Pants he is...

Sorry I am just now getting around to replying! Family emergency has had me occupied the last couple of days. I couldn't even remember what day it was when I got up this morning. Sheesh. This is so cool, though! I will most definitely be trying this out. But for now, I will just spy on yours.. MUCH more interesting than the work I need to be catching up on at the office today haha...

Hahaha... I always wonder what is going through his head and then decide that it is probably best I don't know!!!! -

You forgot the part about picking up toys/bowls/random play things off the floor every time they look right at you and drop them.. Oh wait, that's ME. Hahaha. Maverick just loves to pull that one. He knows I am a sucker. -
Haha. Beware of Guard Parrot
-
Has anyone had any luck making a swing? I browsed around a bit but didn't see any. (My apologies if I missed one). Maverick has so many toys and rarely gives any of them attention so I would like to possibly build a swing myself to see if he will even use it before investing in a nice one.

I absolutely agree with him! Hahahaha!
-
I swear sometimes I watch him and his mannerisms just remind me SO much of a dinosaur and now when we add in the pterodactyl scream I am totally convinced he must be part bird part dinosaur hahaha. He is such a little goofball. Never a dull moment watching him, that's for sure!

I gotcha. I bet that makes it a pain. I know I read that he didn't go for the perch scale either. Smart little guy is onto you, Mom -
What do you use to do this? I would LOVE to watch Mav from work!!

I weighed Maverick (CAG) last night and he was 440g. When I took him to the bird store by my house they said he is a very big CAG. (Not overweight, just large). I didn't think he was.. Hmmm... Thankfully he doesn't mind the scale. I just use a digital postal scale with the glass top. -
I can't even imagine!!! When he really gets going it is pretty darn loud!!! Hahaha. Glad to know this is a good thing
