King's Cage Safety Leash: Is this even a good idea???
BeeFernandez22 replied to FirstPenguin's topic in The GREY Lounge
Dan- I am buying an Aviator harness for Maverick this weekend and I would love to hear how you introduced Dayo to it. I really want it to be a positive experience for him. Please feel free to PM me so as not to interrupt this thread Thanks!! -
King's Cage Safety Leash: Is this even a good idea???

So sorry for sweet Ana Grey Thank you for testing it out for us. I was thinking about one for Maverick but now I most definitely will not be attempting it. He is only about 448g so I know there is no way he would be able to handle it! Hopefully he takes to the Aviator harness! -
I can't believe how much there is to be said about poop!! hahaha... Still waiting for the Toucan poop

So we have been bringing Mav's basket to the table every night for dinner and I have been offering him bites of my food. He hardly ever accepts anything, but I keep trying anyway. Tonight Eric really wanted Mexican and I didn't want to leave again since Maverick and the dogs had been caged all day while I was at work so I had him get it as carry out. O-M-G. He was going CRAZY. He begged more than my dogs did, and if I dared to stop offering it to him to take a bite myself he made all kinds of noise to just make it clear how displeased he was!! I couldn't shovel it to his little beak fast enough! (Now, he takes very little bits at once so the overall quantity of food he got was small..no worries). I just thought it was HILARIOUS!!! He got so fed up with how slow my food-to-mouth delivery service was that he just took matters into his own hands

Thanks for insight guys!! If we go a couple more days with no activity (or evidence there of) I will try some of the things suggested Birdy cam would be AWESOME!!!
-
Thanks, Judy!! That reassures me a lot!!! I was starting to worry. I try to keep him out as much as possible when I get home from work since he is in there during the day. I just worry he is sitting on his perch doing nothing all day while I am gone I don't want him to start plucking or something awful.
-
Maverick does not really do a whole lot when he is in his cage as far as playing with his toys. He usually just sits on one of his perches and, if he knows I am home, chirps until I come get him out. Is this just because he is still getting used to his new "home"? He has a ton of toys in there to choose from so it don't think it's likely he dislikes ALL of them!!!
-
Hahaha... This struck my curiosity as well
-
I have been trying that. If I get him to take anything at all, he mostly just breaks it into pieces.. he doesn't actually eat it
-
Well he is already proving to be a spoiled little brat Has a hissy fit if he is in his cage and knows I am here..lol. We ATTEMPTED bath time tonight and boy he hated it. I am not sure how to tackle that one. He is also being EXTREMELY picky about his food. I am hoping it is still just because he is adjusting and a couple foods have been new. He is just such a joy, though! While in his cage, he really doesn't play with any of his toys.. is this normal?
-
Hahahaha!!! You all are cracking me up!! Guess I am stocking up on baby wipes
-
Yep!! That's it! I has never seen him do it multiple times in a row. It looked like he was choking but I knew he couldn't be..
-
Just curious how you all deal with the birdy poo all over when your birds are out? Maverick is obviously still adjusting so he is spending most of his time out on his basket, which catches the poo but once he gets comfortable and is flying around like some of you guys birds, what will I do then?? Haha. Funny question I know but I was thinking about this earlier as I was cleaning some off of my comforter!
-
It's not really a head bob.. I'll have to try to figure out how to show you guys a video.
-
Maverick has been doing this weird thing today that looks like he is gagging. He opens his mouth and looks like he going to yawn and then sticks his head out, almost like he is gagging in slow motion. I have a video if nobody knows what I am talking about. He's been playing on his basket and just did it a few times, stopped, and then did it again.
-
That really sucks!! My vet says they can easily get caught on things, so thats why I am choosing to have it removed. I wasn't aware that any states require you to keep them
-
Thank you so much, everyone!! It is so good to be able to share in the excitement with all of you, knowing that you guys all know exactly where I am coming from. This is such a great group. I am sure I will have TONS of questions and it is so comforting to know you all are here! Today Mr. Maverick was a little more stand-off-ish than last night but I expected that. He is still getting used to all of the new surroundings and people. He LOVES mirrors, I discovered, as he sat on his sleep cage by a dresser mirror this morning. So funny.. he kept looking at himself and then would get his beak all the way up to the glass. He has never been by himself before, so I am not sure if he thought it was another bird or if he realized it was himself. Here are a few pics to share with you all, as promised!! The first one is his car ride home!! The other two are from this afternoon
-
Well we just got Maverick tucked in for the night! He did so well!! Immediately making his kissy noices and snuggling with me! He said "hello" when I went to pick him up (I swear!!) I about died!! It wasn't completely clear but I said "Hello" and he definitely muttered it back. Isn't he way too young to be speaking? Am I just wishfully thinking?? Haha. I will post some pictures tomorrow when I can get some really good ones of him. I kinda let him be as he explored his new cage and toys, then I fed him some of the hand feeding formula (breeder said to offer it at night as a comfort thing) and then put him in his smaller sleep cage for the night. I can't wait for you all to meet him!!
-
Lol.. its 3:50 my time and I will leave here around 6 to head that way
-
Thanks everyone!! I will absolutely do my best to stay calm! I just can't wait to get the little guy home! It's gonna be so hard just letting him adjust and not wanna love all over him!!!
-
Eeeeeek!! I can barely contain myself or pay attention at work Because of traffic and such, I can't pick him up until 7pm.. it seems like FOREVER away!!! Can't wait to get him home and share some pics with you guys!
-
Yes, I don't know exactly what an office visit costs yet because my first one is included with the purchase of my bird but it was 14 to remove it assuming I did it when I brought him in for the check up. I assume with visit it would be around 50..

Well, I think we have a name... my favorite movie of all time, Top Gun, makes Maverick the winner (Plus it's the only thing besides Chicken Wing that we have both agreed on) hahaha... Pictures of his homecoming tomorrow to follow -
