Darnit, why couldn't I find something like that when I first got Jasper's harness??
-
Welcome to you both! You are in for many wonderful days ahead with your baby. As far as the harness, the one thing you said that sticks out to me is you saying something about trying to pull a wing through. This is probably fine handling for a bird used to touching and handling in this manner in a calm circumstance. I had a little trouble with mine the first time, I too was clumsy and he thought I wanted him to step up when I tried manipulating the harness. The first time was a disaster for us both. The next day I tried again and things went alot better. Now he tries to "help". When removing it make sure you get the harness pulled open all the way to one side enough to bring it around the wing. It's probably better to do more work with the harness than trying to move his wing around. Later down the road he might decide that's ok for you to do but I would focus on touching, pulling and prodding him the least when removing it. Good luck!

Aww. I'm still trying to show Jasper that shower time is fun time. Sometimes he seems ok with it, other times he wants nothing to do with it.

..hate the flipping sarcasm. People post questions because I feel they legitimately are looking for an answer, not some half-cocked response, symbol response or one laced heavily with sarcasm. If you truly are *that* aggrivated by people asking for advice that you must spew hurtful, belittling drivel back at them as an answer to their questions perhaps you need to have your own self-worth checked. So much more on my chest, I'm going to just bottle it up and keep my mouth shut, whipping a dead horse clearly does no good.

Ahahahaha!! I love these birds so much.

I found the box with his Bean Cuisine in it so I have some of that steeping on the stove. Breakfast tomorrow will be totally back to normal for him.

Learn a fantastic excercise regimen from your Grey!!

Thanks, I needed a good laugh =D -
He's doing ok, I don't want to put anything on it because he keeps licking his nose. I'm sure it has to be sore, poor guy. I've let Jasper out and we have another problem now: he is close enough to climb down the side of his cage and reach for stuff on the desk. This will be fun!

We got off to a late start Sunday but made pretty good time. Jasper loved the trip of course and Tico tolerated it and didn't even get car sick. I got my friend to finally stop so we could check on the cats, two of them had to ride back in the hauled van. Freakout A was finding that the tire harness had completely come off on one side of the van on the transport . Freakout B was opening the van door and finding blood all over the pet taxi. Ethan was pushing his nose against the crate door trying to get it open and rubbed his nose leather raw. =( His towel was a little wet too which might not have been pee at all but maybe spit and slobber from the pain and freaking out. When we decided to stop for the night we stopped at a travel oasis and found a booklet with coupons for motels. One said pet friendly so my friend calls them and tells them...that we have three cats and two birds...ack! Just tell them one! So that place was no good. We stopped at the next place and even though they had a sign up $10 per pet we didn't say anything. Sneaked them upstairs to our room. Set out the litterbox and started letting cats loose, let the birds out and got them food, water, cleaned their crates. Two of the cats went under a bed for the night (one we had to actually extricate from inside the bed) but Ethan was chill, exloring a little, eating, drinking, using the litterbox. Jasper and I enjoyed a shower and then I had to put him to bed in a cat taxi because he did not want to go into his travel box. The next morning we sneaked them all back out to the truck, had a quick continental breakfast with me sneaking out a bit of english muffin and half a cutie for the birds before hitting the road again. We got here around dinner time, got the kids unloaded, finally got Jasper's cage unloaded and inside. I haven't let them out just yet because my room is so small and Tico is on an antique dresser and Jasper's under door papers are going to be right in front of my bed. I will probably just put down a sheet and toss it when he goes to bed. Some settling in to do yet, the cats are not happy about being confined to my room for right now. It's been nice here the last two days, not freezing like back in Wisconsin, might try taking them outside for a little bit afterwhile.

Aaaaahhh...haven't been around much because I'm dealing with trying to get ready for my move this weekend. I started too late getting ready because in part I didn't allow enough time for doing some things. I go pick up the truck at 9 Saturday morning and the moving crew should be here shortly after and right now I am surrounded by heaps of stuff. Of course the cats are helping all they can ::eyeroll:: A buddy of mine promised to come over and help me yesterday but never showed up. I'm losing my mind.. Thanks for listening, just had to get that off my chest.. Has anyone had any experience with any motel chain that allows multiple animals? I see a few that are pet friendly but only allow one pet per room. I'm hoping that where ever we wind up stopping for the night we can park in back and sneak them all in or something.

So inspired I picked up a couple of the little pumpkins this morning whilst at the store. When I got home I brought them in here to show Jasper and he growled at them because he wasn't sure what to think. So I guess I will just wash them and leave one in here near his cage for a while. Silly thing.

I am so very sorry for your loss. What a horrible thing to happen but please don't blame yourself. Hope to see you back again some day.

That's awesome! It is so much fun to watch them grow and progress. I started a journal for Jasper before I brought him home but lately I've been neglecting to write in it. That's such a shame because he's still learning so much right now. I wasn't trying to teach him but I would always tell him "I'm going to go make coffee". Lately "coffee" is his new fav word.
-
Aww thanks for the sharing the pictures. He's such a cute little guy. Already I am missing the baby eyes as Jasper's have turned silver now. It's so fun watching them grow and develop.

I don't think there's anything to happen to set it off but I notice lately Jasper is going through spells of eating and not when I give him the same food. Morning time he gets his veggies and bean cuisine, after a couple hours I take that out and give him his pellets mixed with some crumbled avicake and just veggies. A few days ago I noticed that he still had alot of pellets left come morning time. He would eat his veggies just fine. Now the last day or so he's back to eating his pellets again. It probably was a trust thing, you took her out of her environment she was getting used to and to this place..I assume she wasn't put under for the chipping? Look at it from her point of view for a sec..someone before said they chip in the breast muscle..think for a moment how that would feel having a needle and foreign object stuck in your muscle. Give her lots of love and patience, she'll likely come back around. I sometimes do give Jasper a treat of sweet potato baby food in the evenings. I'm not such a great home cook. He loves it but sadly my black cat does too so I have to try to keep him from grabbing the spoon until Jasper is done, then he gets a taste.
-
I used to weigh Jasper every morning without a problem but I got away from it. Recently when I tried he was freaked out by it. I would suggest letting him see it, having it near his cage or something to get used to it and use a special treat to coax him to step up on it. If he's on your arm lower your arm behind the perch and use something he really likes in front to see if he'll step up onto the perch to get it. Jasper loves pinenuts and has been bending over backwards to get them. Good luck!

I guess I was worrying for nothing, he wanted to share. He begged and begged to come over so I held him near, he nibbled some corn, tasted but didn't like the stuffing, nibbled around at hen and even took a little piece of meat but don't think he liked it that much.
-
Aww that's awesome! You are doing so much with her while she is so young she'll likely turn out to be a pretty good girl.
-
I was wondering, I am fixing Cornish hen tonight for dinner and I know they (greys) are pretty smart. If I have half a bird on my plate is Jasper going to know what it is?? I know this is probably a silly question but we've reached the point finally where he's stopping biting me hard and will let me touch his wings, he's not going to think me a monster is he??
-
That was an awesome and intimate look inside the nestbox. Thank you SO much for sharing that with us.
-
Greys do tend to change favorites I think sometimes. What I've read in books it deals with you being "mommy" as compared to the wild flock. The youngster is docile and pliable because he's learning how to fit in with his flock. When he reaches the age of bird majority he'll shun the parents like a teenager, wanting his freedom and to hang with his peers instead. As far as how to handle it, I couldn't tell you. Jasper is only 9 months and I do sort of dread the day that might come. Hopefully someone can give you some solid advice on how to handle this. Good luck.

OMG he's such an awesome guy! I love this video! How old is he? nm I see by the other video he's two. Such an awesome talker.
-
Jasper has a pretty regular sleep schedule but there will be times I notice that he's napping. Sometimes on top of his cage door, sometimes he actually goes in his cage on his own for a nap. (he won't go to bed on his own as my GCC does so I have to bribe him). He definately will take a nap after a rough play session with much swinging on, fighting and screaming at his toys.
-
Nice job, Bogey! I tried to get my cats to use the toilet but gave up when one went on my bed in defiance. Jasper is pretty good about going in a waste bin though.

I've been to that site but not sure if I've seen those there. That is pretty awesome. I think I'm going to add that to my evergrowing wish list for if I ever find a job.
