  1. Sorry but I forgot to ask, I read on a previous post to soak the beans overnight but the package has a quick cook method which is cooking them for a couple oh hours. Please tell me that this is ok because I have a pot of beans that I didn't soak overnight but I followed the quick method.
  2. Blanket was only $6, and I covered it with newspaper. Guess what, no falls since I padded the cage, lol. Let me give an update: Whitney does not seem to like my 15 year old son unless he is picking her up off the floor or offering fruit other than that she growls at him, I told him don't stop talking and offering treats he may not be her favorit but she will learn to deal with him when needed, next- I am making the 15 bean mix and brown rice for her, but so far she has only like sweet potatoe fries and regular fries, no veggies no rice or pasta. Last thing I got the Aviator Harness on her today, she didn't like it but oh well we will at it.
  3. Oh thank you, good idea I was going to pick up a cheap blanket and put newspaper over it. I will see which one works best.
  4. Ok I will keep giving her different foods and trying the same ones. I didn't realize I needed to either pad the bottom of the cage or put the perches low I thought that was for very young babies. Thank you all so much. I don't want her to get hurt so I will make some changes to her cage ASAP. I should have known after all she is only 41/2 mths. She does move all over her cage, inside and out, lol.
  5. Whitney has been home a week now. She plays, preens and whistles. She even comes to the front of the age when she sees me. She does not seem to be interested in food other then her seed mix. Should I be worried? Also she falls so much(well it seems like a lot to me) I am worried that she will hurt herself. Any suggestions?
  6. My eight year old's parakeet. My daughter Sun Conure should be home in two weeks.
  7. Beautiful fids. My eight year old fell in love with a baby IRN at the bird store. Maybe one day!
  8. Whitney seems to be adjusting well, better than what I expected. How did this little bird know that this was her stuff?lol she is comfortable with her both her cage and play stand. I see that she eats her seed mix(given to us from the breeder) and apples and oranges as well as drinks her water. I gave her a hard boiled egg with shell, toast, pancake and a little piece of cheese, she did ok with all, so last nighti made pasta and mixed vegetables she didn't seem to be impressed at all. Maybe I need to try a different type of mixed veggies. I have to tell everyone I am having a blast this weekend just sitting and watching and talking to her. By the way she has made my children 18, 15 and 8 fall in love with her. They are just as excited as I am. Hope the newness doesn't go away, I want them to have a relationship with her as well. Here is Whitney:
  9. Cute picture. I must agree with greys loving their boings, my baby just came home Friday night and out of everything that she has her boing seems to be her favorite.
  10. Lucky you. I can tell this baby wants to fly, she stood on the cage door and watched what was going on in the dining area and next thing we knew she tried to fly over, and I was in the kitchen she could not see I when I came back she was walking around the living room floor, lol.
  11. Lol @ Katana and her broom. My daughter who is terrified of bugs is a happy young lady now that she knows that there is a bug spray that we can use. Her college semester is over so she will be alone in the house until her younger brothers get out of school, she is not going to use a broom, shoe, fly swatter, newspaper or anything else. She would lock herself in a room away from the bug until one of us got home, lol. She is afraid of a lady bug but not my new CAG or the Sun Conure she has waiting to be weaned. Oh well we'll have our hang ups.
  12. If allowing her to fly is going to be the best thing for her safety, mental and physical well being then I think this is the best decision for me and my baby. I will have to get myself and my children to be cautious about things. Funny thing is I had already made a decision to keep her wings clipped, but that was before I got her into my own home. When I look over at her in her cage and on her play stand I think this is now her home and I want her to enjoy it.
  13. I mentioned in another post that my baby seemed to be taking a while to be weaned, especially after reading that Aerial's baby was home before mine, and mine was hatched 11/13/11 and Aeriels not until some time in December well guess what I was wrong her hatch certificate has her hatch date as 12/16/11. I got 11/13/11 from the breeders list she had on bird breeders.com, needless to say that baby on the site was not mine that was just a list of what she had. Silly me, getting my baby's hatch date wrong and worring about why everyone else baby was coming home before mine and mine was older. Oh well you guys can start laughing at me now, I know I did when I saw her certificate.
  14. I have been very unsure about to clip or not too clip. After reading many of the post I would like for Whitney too be able to fly but.......the breeder clipped her before I put my deposit on her. I would like to know about how long does it take for her feathers to grow out? Breeder did not clip her before I picked her up she told me to bring her back if she started to fly(did not tell her I want her to be able to fly, just didn't want to get into that debate), she also gave me an Aviator Harness @ leash(brand new) which I thought was nice. I will start introducing the harness to her right away, just want to know about her flight feathers since she has been clipped the one time. Thanks
  15. Jay, I picked up my baby tonight and she uses Control Bug Spray as well. She gets it from the warehouse that is locally for us, but only breeders can go. She is picking up a large bottle for me. Makes me feel pretty good about the product since you both have recommended it. Thanks again.
  16. Ok that help a lot. I know downstairs is 65-70 at night and I am covering Whitney's cage too. That is if I can stop staring at her, lol. I so excited about having her home I can't seem to think straight. But I am glad to know she will be ok downstairs where it is cooler. Thank you all.
  17. OH my gosh, she is beautiful. I have only had her a few hours but she came out of her travel cage on her own and just walked around then climbed up on my daughter who was sitting on the floor. She seems to like her cage, she is climbing all around and playing with a toy as well as in the water dish. I see my girl likes apples and oranges. This is great!!! The breeder gave me tons of info to read, she is awesome. If I run into a problem where she needs to come to us she is more than willing, she says that she is willing to stop in and trim nails when she is on my side of town. So much to share with you guys, lol. Oh Whitney seems to really like her boing! Thank You Wingy, that is too cute! bbo
  18. Welcome and congrats. This is a great forum to be a part of. Keep us updated on your new baby.
  19. Oh my gosh, Jay I lost my first baby TAG 13 years ago because of a bag of bad seeds. I wish that I had been a part of a forum like this to know what to look for. You may have just saved many fids by posting this. I thought maybe I would buy the food they sell at the pet store in the open bins but I have heard stories about pet shops having bugs in their open food. Is one any better than the other packaged food or the food in the containers that you bag and purchase by the pound?
  20. Please tell me is there a temperature range for my new baby? I am asking because downstairs is colder/cooler than upstairs. If I turn the heat up we all melt upstairs and if I turn the a.c. Down we all melt. The cage is downstairs and I want to make sure I have the temperature right for my CAG. If I need to get a sleep cage for upstairs what is the smallest size I can get. I can't afford another large cage right now. Plus I don't have any where to put another large cage. Also if I have to get a small cage she would have to sleep in my room.
  21. Thank you everyone. I am happy to have all of you to share this whole experience with. I smiled to read your replies and see that you guys are really excited for me and my baby. Well anyway the breeder called she is going out of town on Saturday sooooo instead I get get to bring Whitney home tomorrow evening!!! Why do I have a sudden usage to clean the house and browse the Internet for anything I may be missing Whitney? How am I going to sleep tonight?
  22. I got a call from my breeder that Whitney (pretty sure that's going to her name) is ready to come home this weekend. I Am going to pick her up on Saturday. I am both excited and nervous. Hope you guys don't mind answering questions, lol. I will go back and read the stickys, they offer so much information. Thanks

    Peanuts

I read on another thread that we should not give to many peanuts. Would it be ok to omitt peanuts from my CAGs diet? I have a human son who is allergic to peanuts. I would rather not bring them in the house. He is also allergic to corn so I will use newspaper in the bottom of the cage. His allergy to peanuts is worse than his allergy to corn. He is also allergic to wheat, soy and tomatoes. I hope my CAG is easier to feed than he is,lol.
  24. Thank you all but I have a daughter who will not use a broom or flyswatter, therefore I will go with Jays suggestion. My daughter will be very happy to hear that there is something we can use. Thanks again.
