Pat stayed home with him today. Hand feeding oranges to him for the liquid. Steam bath for both his airsacs and moisture. He is so sad.
-
Both liver and kidneys numbers were extremely off. She said his back air sacs sounded like a thunder storm moving in. Still dehydrated so now going in daily for fluids. Starting him on a antibiotic, 2 x's a day. She is having a compound made for him for the airsac issue and milk thistle for the liver. And now down another 25 grams in weight. After his first dose last night, and i mean right after, he drank 1/3 of his bowl of water. That must have tasted really bad! Going back at 9:30 this morning for more fluids.

This morning he was struggling. Seemed to be stiff and weak. Not as good as yesterday. We go back today at 4:20. He did try and strike at me and bless his heart it was in slow motion. I left my fingers there for him to bite just so he would be proud he could still do it but he didn't, just looked at my hand like, well crap, that didn't scare her.

Just got home from work. Still on his food perch but sitting straighter and was grooming himself at his wing area where he has been tucking his head the past few days. It was full of dried food remnants from his beak.

Spoke with dr. There are some elevated levels but they want to talk with the lab before going over it with me. He still had some fluids under his skin so they didn't want to do more today. He is sucking down oranges so is getting some fluids, and he took them out of my hand. As i reached in to touch his feet to see if they were still ice cold, he struck at me so i will take that as a good sign. Definitely not out of any woods but i see a light in his eyes again.

Ollie is very sick. Not able to hold his body temperature, 5 degrees below normal. Has lost alot of weight since last dr appointment, about 200 grams. Dehydrated also. They injected fluids under his skin, drew blood, swabbed his crop and gave him 2 shots to help him through the night. Blood tests will be in tomorrow and he will have to return for more fluids, trying to avoid the iv right now. He is in his cage which is wrapped in a quilt ( with air gaps) and a heater for warmth. Praying he makes it through the night. He is my baby boy and i am just heart broken right now and kicking myself that we missed this. How did i miss this?? It makes no sense to me.

Going to dr today. He is not well at all.

I was told by hubby that Ollie was waiting with vigor for breakfast and said his eyes were brighter. He also mentioned that he could be tired because i kept going in and checking on him. Hmm, that could be true i guess. Hubs also could just be saying that to keep me from stressing out all day!

I will sure try. Thank you.

My Ollie is sick. We are at a loss what to do (other than going to the vet which i can not do today). Gabbys huge vet bill has broken us until another payday. He is very lethargic, eating and sleeping. He still ate his nuts but wouldn't hold it, he put it in his food bowl and ate it that way. He looks at us but his eyes are glassy and seem to be looking through us. It is like he had a seizure, which he has had before. He generally snaps out of it in a few hours but this is the next day. My baby boy, i am so sad right now and absolutely helpless.

Can't hurt. She mostly eats sprouts and pellets now. Drum roll please, the DNA test is back. Marley, the military macaw, is now Bob Marley but the Bob is silent. Lol, finding it hard to stop calling him her or she. Never knew how often i did that until knowing his real gender!
-
The feather damage has been about year now if not a little longer. She has been to vet twice now about this with full blood work and they couldn't find anything other than a few sores on her feet. She has them often though because of the leg damage so we never gave it much thought. She eats, drinks and plays (when she wants to). I told her if she didn't stop this, i would be putting a vest one her. I got the stink eye with a little smirk because she knows i am all talk and would never put a vest, collar or anything like that on her, unless she mutilated of course.
-
Blood test mailed for Marleys dna test yesterday. I can't wait to know if she is a she or if we need to add a silent Bob in front of Marley for a new name! Gabby is still doing the same, no change at all. Worries me a lot but since everything checked out okay for her, i can only assume i am being an over protective paront.

She was actually due for this so worked out okay i guess. She does have a half oval perch so she can lay down when she needs to. She hates it, go figure. Lol

So to my surprise, and me without my phone to capture this, Gabby was back on the bottom of her cage. This time however she had a reason, she has figured out how to move the paper on the bottom and push it out because she just enjoys watching it float to the floor. If that is why she has been on the bottom of the cage and not because she wasn't feeling good, I may have to shoot myself! $400.00 plus the stress and worry for her just to be playing??? Because the pain meds could cause renal failure, we did one dose and decided not to continue it for now (this was decided before said paper incident so now I am happy with our decision). And because I just don't have enough to do around here, we rescued a dog yesterday. Yea, not just a dog but a big dog. 6 month old German Shepard mix. She sees poor Chacho as a game and she plays it this way, stick nose in and pull it out before he bites. :-( He is the only one that has peaked her interest. I had to laugh though when I brought her though the door, she tucked tail and wouldn't enter the house. I had to pick up this 60lb puppy and carry her inside. Also sleeping was a challenge, Pat, our 2 Chihuahuas and Betty our Chihuahua mix, myself and Athena all in a queen size bed. When Athena spread out she went from my neck to the footboard. OH and the poop difference, good heavens, that alone will be a huge adjustment for me. At least when there is an accident in the house and I ask "who did it", I will actually know before I even ask.

Gabby is the one that has the bum leg, they grey. Last night was a mess though. The covered, padded perches scared her and she just clung to the side of the cage at bed time. I checked on her after a little bit and she was still on the side so I decided to remove the wrap on her sleeping perch. When I turned the light on, her face was covered in blood. Made daddy come get her and see what was up. 4 broken blood feathers on her tail end. I am afraid it may be nearing cone time. She has taken to plucking but she totally concentrates on the tail blood feathers. What a mess, there has to be a reason and we are just missing it.

I remember your very first post about and as sit (at work) reading this i have tears of happiness, hope and admiration for you and all you have done! God bless you!

Results are in and in the vets words, her blood work is perfect! We are going to modify her cage with cushions on the perches and starting her on low dose of pain meds for 2 weeks to see if that helps her any. If it doesn't we will gets exrays on her leg and see just what is up with it. Thank you for the prayers!
-
Aww, she is looking so cute with a full head of feathers! Had to take Gabby to the vet Saturday. She has that bum leg and has been laying flatter and flatter instead of perching. We are blaming this on her leg but had them do blood tests to be sure. She is about 30 years old now so it is scary to think she could be sick. Will find out in a few days.

LOL! I like it. :-)

Since aka, Buddy, aka Peewee, aka not sure since he turned out to be a she, we have had 2 more that needed to find a home. A sun conure and cockatiel, and both came to our home on Saturday morning and their new mom was waiting to take them home! All has been holding its own here. We are still trying to get our new land in the country but getting closer and closer. This has been going on for over a year now and we finally tracked the house down between its trips to the bank and to hud we finally caught a break and located it at the bank where we could make an offer. That was late last week and we are still waiting to hear back. We called and they said either the bank or the lawyer would contact us. Basically they said stop bugging us, we have your info and will take it from here... I am not good at waiting. On the bright side, to keep busy I have been making a lot of bird toys. I now have 2 bins of cut and dyed wood just waiting to be strung!

There is a toy called banger clanger and that is what it is, loud and our greys love them. There is one grey who likes to snap her bars on her cage, and she will do that in or out of the cage. But the safe bells are #1. My Bongo has bruises on his head from his, he will whack the crap out of it but can get away quick enough when it comes back at him but that is part of the game. You can try getting stainless steel measuring spoons and hanging that for your bird to distract from the noise bothering you. But trust me when I say, if you made a deal out of the noise already, your bird will continue to do it until there is no reaction coming from you about it for a looong time. They know how to push our buttons but it is how we react to it that they are paying attention to.

Chicken bones are like Christmas morning here! There are only 2 that don't care much for them but eat them anyway because the others are and they are not going to miss out! Nothing from a can is good for them, way to much salt, which they can not process. So even though someone says, I have been giving that to them for years and they are fine, they are not fine. Over time is when the effects will rear their ugly head and by then it is to late. I make a veggie chop. The base is Kale, spinach, carrots, beets with the leaves, dandelions, green and red peppers and broccoli. From there I add the seasonal veggies like acorn squash, zucchinis, sweet potatoes and what ever has good color! We add fruit to that when we serve it, not before or it gets soggy. I will mix it with sprouts or wild rice for dinner, in the morning they get it alone with some fruits and sprouts.

Welcome! I can't really tell if the beak is blond or dark with a flash streak from the camera. Looks Congo (CAG) when i look at the pictures on my phone. I am searching again for an avian vet. I use to use Dr Moore but after taking 2 in for beak and nail trims and being charged over 200 bucks and questioning it and being called a liar, i have moved on. Summertree by the Gallaria has been highly recommend by someone in the bird community that i greatly respect so we will be going there next time. Was it the feed store off of 199? Russell? The guy who runs that one is big in the Ft Worth Bird Club and also is a huge part of the bird mart in Cleburne. Congratulations and just give a shout if you need anything. I am nearby!

From Sterlings vidio, you can see that little guys attitude! He is a spit fire for sure! I am so happy he got to find his new partner in crime. You couldn't ask for a better match!
