My only talker is Cotay really, the others say hello and the normal stuff but nothing out of line except for Bubba one time being scared by a fly by of Gabby where he ducked and followed her with his eyes saying F#@@@@@@k as she flew over, dragging that word out until she was past him. Cotays funniest thing is that she will make a fart noise and follow it by saying " I has gas". She has only been with us a little over a month and whoever had her really has a good sence of humor because when i take her her breakfast in the morning i have been greated by " Oh waiter" a few times, can not wait to hear more as she gets more at ease, I think. lol

I just re-read this post and i am still laughing. My last reply to this was i was saving money for the farm and now i am the proud owner of it. How time flys by.

What a cute lil boy he is. Thanks for sharing him with us!
-
Yeah, they do not cough but mimic us. When i cough it is a cough - a - palooza among the greys, they all start when they hear me. It is funny but then again every time i hear them i say to myself that i really need to get my cough checked if that is what i sound like!

As Dan said, it is molting time and it may look like your bird should be bald going by the amount of feathers you will find but this will pass. My first experience with molting, i thought one of my dogs had gotten to a bird and i expected the worse, but after the panic ended i new that wasn't possible, lol. Since you have just gotten your bird though, a visit with your avaian vet is in order. You said many feathers were missing from under the wings and "if" she is plucking there could be a medical reason why and only he/she could tell you for sure. Birds hide their illnesses so better safe than sorry.

Just my opinion but it seems like it is just playing. Bongo is my boy thru and thru but when we put them to bed at night, he ignors me completely to play the "get daddy" game. He will try biting Pat until Pat gives in and says "ouch". It is just their game and he doesn't really bite but he loves feeling the power. After the ouch, Bongo will climb to his sleeping perch and the pride he shows is priceless, this is nightly! Cotay on the flip side really does attack me when i try changing food bowls. I have to distract her to a higher part of the cage so i do not end up missing fingers, she is serious and there is no doubt. No more cute "oh waiter" comments from her while she waits but pure "i dare you" evil, lol.

How fun that is and let me add that having 3 parrots now calling me "Pptthhh" Wooo sounds heavenly!

Yeah, that is my worry that when the cone is off the feathers will follow. I was home all day yesterday and watched Bubba with one eye all day to see if a trigger could be noticed. One was, Oliver. When he got close to Bubba, Bubba would preen Ollies feather and Ollie would lower his head and start preening Bubba back. Okay Oliver is naked so his idea of preening is to remove those darn feathers and he would get a mouthful and pull. Bubba would push him away when he would try but how far can he push him when Oliver has him at the end of a branch on the stand? We are going to try and seperate them again, but they are really bonded and scream when they are apart, even when they are inches away. There are still feathers in Bubbas cage so it isn't just Oliver but he is a lot of the reason. Cotay, we were told, wore collars before and we see how far that got her! Maybe though, just maybe, with plenty of toys and a good diet and aloe mists if she did wear one again, it would last. She is so beautiful with that red factor, i wanna see her with all her feathers just once!

Oh boy is this a tough one. We have decided to give it a week or two before we make any decisions. When in doubt, don't jump i guess! I really do trust or Doctor, he is wonderful but very cut and dry and gives you the options but doesn't give an opinion other than when Oliver tested positive with PDD and i broke down crying and he said for me not to panic... "yet", lol.

As most of you know i pretty much house a nudist colony. Ollie will remain naked but Bubba and Cotay can still grow them. I want to nip this before it becomes a habit for Bubba, for Cotay it already is i fear. Bubba started his when we found the cysts on his vent, they are now gone but the plucking on his tummy continues. Cotay came naked to us but we were told she is a nervous plucker, it has gotten a little bit better with daily misting with aloe and weekly baths but she is still plucking. I spoke to the vet who said he would go with a collar for Bubba and would like to look Cotay over to decide. The Dr makes them there to fit and they are leather. I have not seen what he is talking about anywhere before. He would need to do a full exam on Bubba and Cotay to rule anything else possible out then measure and fit the collar. He did say that he requires a 3 day boarding after the collar is put on to be sure they are ok with it and will not harm themself or anyone else because of it and it would be removed over night. If it is so bad that they may harm themselves is this really worth it? Will they just go back to plucking when the feathers grow back? I am so confused, i never thought i would even be thinking about a collar.

Eventually. But not before getting a few pictures of Gabby in her prized bucket. Not the best picture but if you are not use to birds i guess this would be scary to see when you are just trying to put an empty bottle in your trash bucket!

lol, we had a friend who stopped by yesterday but hasn't been to our house since bird #3. Of course we are use to the trigger points that will set Gus off and so it wasn't at the front of our thoughts when he walked in with sunglasses. Gus let out a normal hold me scream and i think the poor guy peed in his pants. We just told him to take his glasses off and Gus was okay. We went outside and when we came in, the same thing, guy peed a bit more then went to get a beer from his cooler, and he had brought in a 5 gal bucket for his empties which was beside it and when he reached in there was a faint "hello" which was Gabby in the bucket, that scared him and when he jumped Gus screamed, he jumped again and went outside only to never have gotten his beer and wouldn't go in the house again. It really was very funny.

I have been afraid to write about Gus as he has been doing wonderful. Still venturing with the dogs at the front door and playing with a bucket on his stand, lol. He has been such a pleasure, we have had to stop our nightly sit with us in the kitchen time because as was mentioned, he came to expect it and thought his screams would get him there quicker. It worked in reverse for him as we just stopped bringing him in for a week give or take and the screams have all but stopped. Pat mentioned that he was being so good he wanted to bring him in with us but then thought better of it because he didn't want to take backwards steps again. He still gets the one on one time, just not in a pattern to keep him off gaurd.

Beautiful photos yet again. I travel through your words and photos to places i would never get to visit. Thank you!
-
Congrats! For his safety and your house's well being i would have him in his cage at night when you are asleep. It will amaze you how much baseboard, wall, furniture damage they can do when you look away for a moment let alone all night, lol. The only room i have left without wood damage is the master bedroom and even the footboard of the bed has little toe and beak marks on it. I may have 6 birds but it is just one grey doing this, Gabby.

Things will be just fine and you both will be flying around again in no time! Best wishes for speedy recoveries!
-
What a sweet face! I love the Grey Forum up on your computer too! heehee As luck would have it, my house is full or i would be saying "I want one like that!"
-
Hi and welcome! Sorry to hear about your grandmother and as others have said, with Baby, she will always be with you.
-
That was too cute!
-
I agree to start looking now, the more time you have together the better. And who knows, it could take months for the right one to find you! Best of luck and congrats!
-
My heart goes out to you both.

I actually collect those clocks. I have six, the one in the picture was my grandmothers, it is about 60 yrs old best we could figure and the start of collecting. I should have know when they facinated me i was in trouble because i loved the sound every 15 minutes. Friends or over night guest would complain, they should hear my house now!! lol

Right after that, Oliver fell off the chair which startled Cotay who flew which made the other two greys fly off and Gus start screaming, then Bubba was screaming because he wanted with Oliver. By the time we got the greys settled we found Oliver opening a draw that he uses as a ladder to get onto the counter but he had stopped short because he found the freezer bags and thought putting holes in all those bags after chomping the foil up would be funner.

Starting with the macaws we have Oliver, Bubba,Gus, Cotay, Gabby and Bongo. What a mess!

He fell asleep-- he never has done that before
murfchck replied to chezron's topic in The GREY Lounge
Bongo does that even when the 2 other greys are on his stand horsing around. He could sleep next to train tracks. It is like he needs a nap before dinner to get his energy up to devour it! Gabby sleeps also when on the arm of the couch and is board with playing.
