  1. So that was short lived. Now i just have 2 frustrated greys. Gabby actually bit me for the first time in a while and Bongo learned he doesn't "need" me anymore except for raw pasta shells. Last night i was had soaked beans and was making them for their dinner, i got out the wacky mac and Bongo flew to my shoulder for his share, took a mouthful and went on his stand over the sink to eat them. When he finished, instead of coming back to my shoulder to help me, he got on my shoulder and flew right back to his stand in the window and started playing. I felt rejected, he always stays with me, he is my jr chef! I turned my back to stir the beans and he came back, i gave him a taste and when he finished it, he flew right back to his stand again. When i was putting everything in their bowls, he came back, slid down my arm and started eating out of the bowls. I am going to miss my needy Bongo, but am happy to see him getting independant. My Gabby monster was just cranky. She finally was able to get to a part of my counter that "held" 4 mugs that were for show. She wanted those mugs so bad but i would always move her and say mine, not yours. She snuck past me and i did not know she was even close to them until i heard the crash. I just looked at her and asked if she was happy, she just bobbed her head up and down and flew back to the table with pride in her flight. Funny though, she never went back to the counter again. She finally did what she was hell bent on doing and she moved on! Now i have to worry about whats next!
  2. I have perches all over the house, on stands and hanging from ceilings and some on table tops... I also have chewed moulding and door frames, so if that is what they fancy chewing i do not think it will matter where they land! lol I have metal walk thru gates dividing aeas of the house to keep the dogs from going where they shouldn't go, it is the perfect perch and just the perfect landing to chew whatever is nearest!
  3. If you have a feed store near you they should have parrot safe welded wire or be able to order it for you.
  4. I just updated the post, the top picture is actually a video, not sure where the play button is but just click on it and the video plays. Bet you were saying to yourself, "Of course you house is quiet in pictures!" lol
  5. So i am not the best video maker or picture taker, but please not how quiet it is in our house! :-) The first is a video, not sure where the play button is but just click on it to watch. The picture is of Bongo kicking, lol.
  6. Gus and Lilly have a new game. They play tug of war with their toys, yeah!! Gus will stretch out on his stand just enough where Lilly can grab the toy from her stand and they pull back and forth. It is really funny to watch. I tried to get it on video, waiting for the upload to share it. They are also starting to tolerate each other on the same stand, Lilly isn't giving Gus much of a choice since she keeps finding ways to get on his stand, but at least he isn't flying off like he use to. Now our noise level is coming full circle and we are back to the macaws out screaming everyone! lol Gus has also been able to remove all the eye hooks from the stand and we have resorted to attaching the toys to his boing, but since that isn't connected either anymore, we really have to watch him!
  7. K- i- s- s- i- n- g! So last night was a first. Gabby loves cardboard boxes, and she has had one now on the kitchen table that she has been picking at since Sunday. This is her box and she will fly over to it if i try and clean up the mess around it and give me my three knock warning. No one or other bird can go near it, except for Pat. Last night we were in the kitchen watching the Toos actually play tug of war with a toy between their stands and they were quiet for a change, Gabby was in her box and Bongo was on my shoulder and Cotay on Pats shoulder. I had set Bongo on the table so i could grab my camera, he ran right to the box and started playing with Gabby and Gabby was allowing it! This is a first on so many levels. Gabby letting him near her area and Bongo playing instead of being "the statue". He was chewing bits off the box and then kinda laying flat and kicking the pieces back with his foot. ( Like a dog covering his poop in the yard ). They were beak kissing and doing the beak rubbing. It was so darn cute. He was even tapping his beak on everything around him and bobbing his little head. Bongo has never been social with the others, he is just layed back and mellow, it was so special to see him involved in something. Today may be totally different, but last night will last a long time in my memory!
  8. She is the head of the house until 6 or 7 and she isn't about to change her role! Lol
  9. I am one that has been given a name also. I am ptthhhhh, I think I would like being that girl much better. Lol
  10. In one word, no. Until you know why, why risk it?
  11. Had a little freak out moment yesterday. I am still laughing at my reaction, such a baby i was. You would have thought i have never been around birds in my life. I was filling up the bowls on their stand and when i got to Gus, he took a jump for me and landed on my arm trying to climb up to my shoulder. I had a scoop full of pellets and the container i keep them in. I started spinning in circles, not sure why. After my third spin around and Gus still clinging to me, i just stopped and looked at him and he looked at me like i was a complete idiot. I started laughing so hard i could not even explain to my husband who came into the living room to see what was going on what had happened. It had to be a site for him though as the pellet was everywhere, all over the couch, floor and even on and IN the fireplace. Not sure what happened to me, maybe a flashback from all the neck bites i had taken from him when he flew on me or what! What a waste of pellets too, the dogs sure did enjoy it though.
  12. Sorry, i should have added that "the ones i have" are for my plants. I have not given them to the fids. Not only am i just afraid too, but what a mess it would make, lol.
  13. The ones I have are made out of coconut fibers. Find out what it is made of and if has been treated for insects with chemicals.
  14. And a no go foraging She is so smart, but playing with toys and eating are just things she is going to have to learn i guess. Gus on the otherhand, now has his favorite toy and will play quietly on his stand for hours ( the toy is one of the two he has not unscrewed yet). I told Pat last night we were NOT getting a 3rd Too to try and stop Lilly from screaming!! She will just have to grow out of it.
  15. So it worked a little! There was just a slice of banana and 1 hunk of apple left on it when i got home. So, last night i tried with dinner but i put it in little plastic cups and made her forage for it. I can't wait to see if she did.
  16. We have tried something new to seperate them in the cage... Card board strung on the center wall, it is like packing card board and we wove it in and out of the bars. So far they have not even tried to chew it. We did leave the bottom area open and also a corner in case they wanted to visit with each other which they do at night, they pass their almonds back and forth. As far as Lilly eating, still a no go on the fresh stuff so this morning i broke out the scewer to see if that would work. She did attack it as i was trying to hang it so maybe this could work!
  17. Thats going to be tough on you both! I am trying really hard to break our routines here for that reason, the unexpected. We try to leave them in the cage for a day so that if for some reason we have to be away, they will know how to act and not get stressed. Ok, so i suck at that and it has only happened 2 times in all the years we have had them. But in the long run hopefully they will remember those 2 days, lol. Best of luck to you both!
  18. Haha, love the contact call one! Not that i have ever done that... lol My neighbor across the street and I do the contact call to each other now instead of calling out our names. We seem to hear the call over our own names much better! I can't hear the phone ring in my pocket but let me hear the whistle and i go into high alert! All of these are really hitting home and it is sad that i have been racking my brain to add to this list but can't think of anything. But then i read them and think, "oh yeah, that has happened", it is just a way of life now and i don't see it as out of the ordinary anymore! (including giving the birds the master bedroom). I will add that you know you live with a parrot when you start shopping for a kitchen table at Goodwill or Thrift town and give yourself a $25-$50 dollar limit because you know it will get chewed, but don't blink an eye at paying $50-$60 on a colored hunk of wood you hope they will chew!
  19. I am so sorry. Please know you did all you could do and he will always be remembered!
  20. What a beautiful girl! Thank you for taking her in! Best wishes to you both.
  21. Welcome! Congrats on your new baby! And thank you for adopting an older one! We have Gabby who by now is 23, but until her homecoming day comes around, we will say 22, lol. Your life is about to change for the better and be ready for new suprises everyday! I also have one who's name is Bongo and we call him Bingo Bongo all the time, so i love your guys name! lol Looking forward to the pictures.
  22. So, that is the first list i have seen where crape myrtle is toxic. Since that is the only tree around here that is really accessible, it is all we use in the cages and in the outside aviaries and their playstands for additions, Drangon wood is also something we pick up from the bird shows when they come to town. http://www.mdvaden.com/bird_page.shtml I got scared when i saw the link you posted so i searched again and only saw one site that said it wasn't safe and it was the same one you shared. There is a myrtle that is unsafe and it is listed but not the crape. Had me panicing for a second! lol But alas, Gus is destroying the manzanita tree. This thing is so big we could easily have 5 of our big parrots on it if they only would play well with others, lol. We got it when we got Oliver, thought he would really enjoy all that room, but he kept falling off of it and since he can not fly it was too dangerous, we added lots of crape myrtle branches and he got much better on it, then we got Bubba and those two enjoyed it for a few years together but now they have to be seperated so we had this great idea of letting Gus and Lily share it and since they are more active we really thought we finally had a good use for this huge stand. Welp, they will not perch together so Gus is on it. We wanted Lilly to have it but she has to be in a certain area or screams like a banshie and it is too big to move. Now it is being eaten!!!! At the rate he is going, i give the poor tree a year!
  23. So Gus's toys have been hitting the floor from his stand. Water and food bowls wobbly too. That little stinker first will unscrew the toy holder and throw his toy, but wait, theres more... He then unscrews the eye hook that we had to pre drill a hole for and use plyers to put in. He just goes right to it and has it out in seconds. When he removed all that he could he went to his food and water bowls and unscrewed them. Now what??? He has a huge manzanita tree and he is also able to chew the wood off. He is making daggers. I told Pat that it doesn't seem that expensive now when we drop 50 bucks on a wood chew toy if it will keep him from destroying a $500 tree!! On the bright side, it keeps him from screaming for a while!
  24. All your base boards and door frames have the same unique design in them that were not there when you first installed them. But they are now starting to match your picture frames. You are always having to explain to people that you do not have moths in your closet eating holes in your shirts! You never wear jewlery anymore!
