  1. LOL, Barnaby is a male U2. My CAG is still in the process of being weaned, but will hopefully be home soon UPDATE: So, we had our visit to the vet today. Barnaby is no longer dehydrated. She decided that he will do another 10 day round of Baytril to be safe, as she said the infection he had was a pretty nasty one, and we want to be sure it is cleared up completely. She also took another blood sample. I hope to get the results to this one by this Saturday. We will compare the numbers on his uratic acid levels to his last blood test. We are hoping that the number has decreased. He did very well at the vet. THEN....RIGHT BEFORE WE LEFT WE WEIGHED HIM....Barnaby has gone from 514 grams, to 550 GRAMS IN A WEEK!!!!!!! I couldn't get over it. It was like a breath of fresh air. Our goal is around 615 grams, so we are well on ourt way to getting there! Now, I am just hoping for some good news on this blood test I feel so happy, I mean, it is so hard to express with words. I have been caring for him all hours of the day and night. It has been an ordeal for both me and him, but I feel so accomplished. I feel like I saved a life. I am not even sure there is a word to describe that feeling. A higher power brought him into my life, and just in time. I have had hardly had any sleep in a week, and have had the flu the last couple days (still do) but you can bet I put on a smile for him every day, I love him every day no matter how I feel, and I make sure he (and my other animals) are taken care of. Yesterday I didn't even want to get out of bed, but I did because I know he needs me, and I promised him I will be there for him no matter what. I have a responsibilty to him, and he is counting on me. I couldn't be more excited. I feel like he is doing so much better. He seems to be settling in very well, and he loves for me to rub him under his wings. He will even stretch them out to ask for a rub He is a total sweetheart. Since he is starting to feel much better now, I will try and post some pics of him in the next day or 2. Thanks for your concern everyone! Looks like we are headed down the right path. Now.... I shall go put myself in a nyquil coma, and do it all again tomorrow
  2. Loved the story by photos, she is just lovely.
  3. Loved the pics, and she is a doll! Thanks for sharing!
  4. Aww, I hate when birds are illegal in certain states. Even Quakers are not allowed into some states. I know California is one of them...They are such a joy, I could't see myself not being able to have one!
  5. That is such an excellent example of what can happen when we allow our birds the freedom to make choices! Congrats!!!
  6. Wow! That stand is just awesome! You got a great deal as well, it sounds like. How does your fid like it?
  7. Lovethatgrey, you are right. I have decided against the corner cage after a chat about it with my husband. You all brought up great points, and he and I agree with them. I am currently looking for the biggest cage I can find that has proper bar spacing. Thank you everyone!
  8. it sounds to me like he is just fine. He is not losing weight at a rapid weight, and is active, and eating well. You do need to make sure that he is getting 10-12 hours of sleep at night though, this is very important for their health. You need to remember that jst because you are in bed asleep does not mean he is. He more than likely gets up when the sun rises, and if he goes to bed around 10:30pm, and sleep until the sun comes up at say...7am, that is not enough sleep.
  9. VERY well put Dave, I think you nailed every single point that needed to be illustrated here. I hope you and Ajax can get everything worked out, and come to an understanding.
  10. Hahahaha! I am looking forward to seeing that with Grimm Don't be afraid to give him wooden toys, they are not going to swallow the parts. They NEED to chew, it is a must, and denying him this very healthy behavior could be detrimental to his health (and your property) in the long run.
  11. I have no idea what that could be, but hopefully your avian vet can get you two squared away. Good luck with your visit, and let us know how it goes!
  12. Have you considered getting some lovely little birds that do not attach themselves to one person? Male canaries for instance? If you house a couple males together they will sing their little heart away, and it is very lovely.
  13. I agree, sounds like normal behavior of a young Grey. I would also make sure he has PLENTY of toys, lot's of different kinds, and choices. I would also rotate his toys every now and again to keep him from getting bored with what he has. Wooden toys for chewing are great, and also noise making toys, foraging toys, preening toys, ect. You will just have to watch him and see what he plays with the most! Also, a lot of birds that enjoy swinging, and things of that sort like boings, and atoms Maybe give one of those a try?
  14. My big question here is, will the grey be getting out of cage time?
  15. Hello to you and your flock! You have definitely come to the right place if you think you may have questions, so please feel free to browse the forum, and ask any quastions you would like. There are many very knowlegable parronts here that would be more than wiling to help you understand Ziggy, and his behaviors! Look forward to seeing pics!
  16. Honestly I RARELY give any of my birds any kind of sunflower seeds or what have you. These are like twinkies to them, pure junk food. If he simply MUST have any seed, I would use this VERY sparsely. Instead, try offering grapes, a small piece of mango, or even a small piece of millet as his treat. Also, you said that you are filling his bowl with sunflower seed ect. as a "treat". Filling his bowl with it is not giving him a treat, it is feeding him seed. Treats are meant to be just that. He should only get this reward when he does something to earn it. I would say cut waaaay back on the seed. Offer grapes and millet as treats, and give him these during training sessions, or when he behaves himself and deserves one. Oh, and one at a time, not a bowlful.
  17. That is very true. If you have any specific questions about forum rules, private message Talon, the forum administrator, or one of the forum moderators. They are all very helpful, and would be happy to answer any of your questions. Otherwise, welcome, and look forward to reading more from you!
  18. Nah, the picture size is just fine. It gave us a great look at that little sweetie!
  19. Oh geez, look at that little baby beak! He/she is a little doll. Congrats!
  20. I forget to mention this in my last post, but Barnaby will be going back to the vet tomorrow at 4:30pm. I am hoping it goes smoothly! Since I posted last he has seemed pretty perky, and nice and vocal. I think I may be the only person in history that has cried tears of joy when their Umbrella Cockatoo flock called LOL!
  21. That sounds like a great family you have, Ray. I was very sorry to read about your loss of Smokey, especially on Christmas day. I love the fact that you have all of these different kinds of animals. Do you live out of the city? As of now, I live in the city and am limited on what I can have. I have always wanted chickens for some reason, horses, and a llama. It is my dream to move out of the city with my husband one day, and be able to have a few of these animals. I didn't even think about it until Ray's post, but my 2 cats are also rescues. They have been through a lot, but are now fat and happy
  22. Eve is stunning, and I LOVE the name choice! The others are right, she does seem to love the camera...so don't disappoint her, and make sure you take many more when she gets settled in!
  23. Welcome! I bet you are so incredibly excited! Trust me, I know the feeling. I have a baby Grey waiting to come home to me as well. He is now just over 9 weeks old. Are you getting your baby locally, or will he/she be shipped to you? We very much look forward to seeing this little baby when you get a chance!
  24. I am sorry you are not feeling well Morana, but if it is any consolation to you, I am now also sick! I was sick before for a week, then felt better on Christmas day, then got sick AGAIN last night! I don't think I ever fully recovered before, and now it is back with a vengeance! Either that, or you passed your sickness to me through the forum LOL! I have a fever, sore throat, and some bad body ache going on. I hope you at least enjoyed seeing your friends that night, and I really hope you feel much better very soon.
  25. I actually never thought of that! That is a great idea! You may have just saved my marriage in the long run LOL! JK, Thanks for the idea!
