  1. It will break your heart to leave Monday morning but it will help her learn the routine of your home.

    my first chop

I never thought about adding seed to the mix. Jake might be more willing to eat it that way. I'll give that a try.
  3. Oh what a poor little peanut. I am so glad you were able to find her a new home. Fingers crossed that it is a forever home.
  4. Very true and probably why he has fit so well. I love kids in the 9 months to 3 year range.
  5. What webcam do you use? Do you find that it is smooth or is the picture choppy? I have been thinking of getting one and setting up a UStream channel.
  6. Jake has me crying with laughter. He is on his boing chattering away in a sing song way and I hear "go poopies......poopie, poopie, poops" "lets go.... poopie, poopie poops". He said it a few times and then he started to laugh. When I started to laugh he said "what?" which only got me to laughing harder. He is such a nut.
  7. A busy bird is a happy bird. Stimulate the senses.
  8. I think I finally have the naming thing down. For now Jake calls me "bless you", my partner in crime is "whats goin' ", my partner in crimes DD is "hellooooo" and the cat is the nasty meow.
  9. Oh I know. Jake has already picked up my "what?!!!"
  10. Its not the kids that have to watch their mouth its me. I have a tendency to be just a bit vocal watching hockey. I have started either giving the tv raspberries or physically holding my tongue to curb my use of bad or negative words.
  11. Today my partner in crime brought in a bowl of fresh snow. Jake touched it with his beak, growled at it and is now busy giving it the evil stink eye. I thought he might like snow because he loves destroying ice cubes.
  12. Jake shed his first flight feather today. He opened his wings just a bit for a shake and out it came. He has shed so many feathers its a wonder he isn't naked. I have saved all but the down. I will keep a few and give the rest to a coworker who makes fishing lures.
  13. I hope her first few phrases are ones you like. You will be hearing them over, and over, and over like a gazillion bazillion times.

    It's a girl!

    Val would be sweet name.
  15. I am up between 3 and 4 am depending on what time I have to go to work. I do not open the cage door because my buddy is a bugger to get back in and we are both a bit grumpy that early. I change out the water/food bowls, give him whole fresh vegies, ask him to make his poops (he won't do it unless I ask), turn on his radio and light and say I love you as I walk out the door. I am usually home before 4pm and he is free to play with me or independently until bed time which is between 8 and 9pm. Saturdays and Sundays are his days. He is out most of the day between 6 am and 9 pm except for a 2 hour period when I take a nap.
  16. I have read of this procedure being done for birds that break a lot of new flight feathers while growing out a bad or severe clip. The article explained how it can give the needed support along side while the new flights grow in.
  17. This is what I mean by the grape vine. Jake has 2 table top stands and 2 big climbers. Mine are hand made by Natures Bird Perch And Toys which is where the picture comes from.
  18. There is a version 1 and version 2 of the parrot enrichment activity book. Both have some excellent ideas. http://parrotenrichment.com/enrichmentbooks.html
  19. You might try adding some thick untreated grape vine to the area Bongo likes to climb the most. It is rough but not to hard so the beak gets used to aid climbing. (it also has a shredable outer bark so its something interesting to pick at)
  20. Can they wake up on the wrong side of the perch. Absolutely. Honestly the throwing food is normal and is not sassy or moody behavior.

    Pomegranate??

Jake loves them. I just wash it well and slice off a round about an inch thick and put it on a plate. He rips and digs for each seed. He hasn't decorated the walls, he is more of a dropper than a flinger, but his poops get quite colorful. As Dave said. Vinyl is your friend.
  22. I highly recommend providing a wide variety of objects for shredding, chewing and destroying. My buddy has been on a wooden block chewing kick but next week it might be shredding paper or just chewing. I keep both hanging and foot toys with various textures for his enjoyment. It is a great feeling when I come home from work and see that he's turned one of his toys into chunks. I know that "I got it right" and that he had fun while I was gone.
  23. I think you did a great job and I hate to be a Debbie Downer but watch that composter carefully. That baby is going to get hot as your green matter breaks down and it could start to smolder. At the very least move it away from combustibles and check the internal temperature often.
  24. I give it Jake raw. I buy the short fat ones and cut the top to remove the majority of the pointed tips. I then pull it a bit to loosen it up a bit. You can stuff it with nuts in the shell or plastic toys as well.
