Im just checking in, and wondering: Is the weather cold over there?

Good thing you rescued that CAG, and hes at home with you. Ive seen other people give their birds much worse than that so I guess as long as he likes the coco water, keep it coming. I wanna see the pics too. Congratulations!
-
Thank goodness we are not alone in how we love our birds. Isaac is awesome!
-
You will always belong with a grey... I love this saying.

thank you all for your replys, I hope to adopt a healthy baby with a leg problem over a scoliosis neck problem. Ive searched through the forums to see pics of different birds, so id be glad if we could consolidate some here. I need to start learning and preparing as soon as I can. I appreciate any advice and welcome pics please to see diffrent greys at home, in their cages, and in day to day life.

Thanks Dave! I know its an old thread, but if you know, how did the parrents "prepare" the cage and lifestyle to accomodate the bird? Low perches toweled bottom of cage, but what else? Thanks for your reply btw.

New grey owner and a bigger family now.
Cupid replied to Drea07's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Great story! Hes lucky, but you and your family are the real lucky ones to have gotten him in your lives, He was free of charge because the old owners didnt know the wonderful joy he couldve brought them those cat lovers.. Its ss, and Rocky will enrich your lives for so many years to come. Im happy for him and you, and Im sure with the great steps your taking now, he will live a long happy life. read through the threads as there is so much info that will help you out. Try to post pics soon please. -
Ive been lurking in the forum for a while before I finally joined, and reading old threads so its fresh in my mind... its a old drama that happened many moons ago. Water under the bridge. A learning experience for older members.

Hey friends, I just wanted to share what im up to and how Ive been feeling. I took Aristotle and Skittles to my cousin Lana's home for a couple days because I am taking my family on a birthday vacation. They will have the company of "Picasso" her grey, and she is very informed on how to take care of her bird so Im grateful to have her help me and im not worried. Heres the thing, I took them in travel cages and left the big cage home. I cleaned it out and took the chance to re-arrange the toys so when they come home everything will be nice and clean. I have caught myself empathizing with our friend Reggieroo and his sad reality for the moment, asking myself how I would feel if my fids had flown away. Staring at the empty cage this morning while I had my coffee really set off my imagination and I felt desperate and alone without my birds. I know that they're safe at the sitter, but I feel for our friend. ~ I think we should all pass by his page and show some love, because I (we all) take for granted that our birds would always be there. Unfortunatly there is always that slim chance that something could go wrong and we'd be staring at an empty cage hoping and waiting.

I know a couple of our members are proud owners of "disabled" greys. Not retarded or anything like that I mean like the leg to the side, handicaps, or other problems they might live with day to day. I need any feedback about the joy of having a special bird like this please. Any information is greatly appreciated...

Toddski gave great advice here so I think you should "risk the bite" even though it might not be a bite at all. sometimes greys like to feel the perch for stability so i guess its a 50-50 thing. Without risk there is no reward. What if you could be holding your bird right now? Try to only have him step up when its out of the cage as they can be territorial creatures.

I know Judy, Ive read and re-read Daves posts about the pros and cons. I feel its important to put my opinion out there as so many of us are "anti-clip" "You should understand that you needn't state that you're a newer member in order to state your opinion. This place is for all opinions and no one is gonna chastise you for what you say. It's not disrespectful to agree or disagree with opinions. It's a free country and if you wanna say what you feel, than do it. It's not the level or amount of membership here that allows a person to say what they want. When someone is intentionally disrespectful to others, we recognise that and we always address and take action concerning the problem. " Dave, I do understand although I know that this is a touchy subject among our flock members, and since Ive read about how "passionate" we can be on our forum from other posts, I just want peace and do not want to "step on any toes, or ruffle too many feathers" with my opinion, especially to other members that I admire and respect for thier knowledge and patience, such as Judy or yourself. I feel that I am not an expert in "grey keeping" as I've only recently begun to fully understand the emotional needs of our feathered friends from reading threads and recommended books, so I agree that for a new baby bird its important to learn to fly for their own good, but when a owner isnt sure that that is safe because of the conditions they live in, as I do, clipping goes into a "gray area". Thank you for valuing me as a flock member. I would type that dislcaimer just in case, (so I wouldnt get treated like "fredgrey" long ago) but now I see that I dont have to worry about that as Im sure that wont ever happen to me...

The JERK has obviously never lost somthing precious to him so he doesnt know what your going through, dont be upset at the fuel or time you lost Reggieroo, be proud of yourself for being able to be there for Murphy at a moments notice, and giving your all for his SAKE. You might take this experience asa test of your will to be there for your bird. I am proud of you, as im sure everyone that regularly checks back here to find out any info on Murphy probably is, that you havent given up hope and I have a feeling that you you two will be reunited once again!!!

With no dis-respect to other members, I am in favor of clipping. You know how it feels to lose a flighted bird already, and your circumstances call for it , in my opinion. Good luck with whatever you choose to do. When your circumstances change, (new house, more security for bird) then you could let them grow out. Feathers grow back, just like our hair, its just a matter of time. Although I am a newer member this is just my opinion and what i would do, as I do appreciate the older members advice and understand why we shouldnt clip wings. read Daves posts, then re-read them before you make your desicion. Beautiful bird by the way!

If you want to rescue a bird, you could check your local craigslist, and youll find a grey for sure. You might have to search other areas near by too, but there out there, good luck and welcome. Read the threads and posts and youll learn so much from this website. (also we love pictures so youll see a lot of them and when you get your grey, you can post pics up too!)
