I'm so sorry for your loss.....this is heartbreaking. Wish I had words of wisdom, but know we are all thinking about you.
  2. I thought I read somewhere Timneh's are more likely to be accepting of everyone?!?! Guess she broke that mold. Lollie does not seem to like anyone but me. She will tolerate my daughter when I am not around but if I am she will get defensive, puff up neck feathers and try to bite. For my boys and my husband....the ONLY time she will let them near her is if she happens to fly to the floor and need "rescued" or if they give her a treat, all other times she will act like she is going to bite, even if I am not around. To make matters worse, now the boys and my husband are afraid of her so they stand arms length away and ask her to step up LOL. Recently, they've pretty much given up trying. My daughter, bless her heart, tries very hard but gets frustrated at Lollie's Jekyll/Hyde routine. She bit her today, a hard pinch but not hard enough to draw blood. She said that she told her "OW, that hurts, bad girl" and put her in her cage. I'm not sure that was the best reaction and I am not sure exactly her dramatic the OW! was. Any advice would be appreciated. She is only 7 months old and I do know it was mostly females at the breeders house, the husband(and only male) was out of town frequently, could that have something to do with the reaction to the males here? Is she a hopeless cause?
  3. Sounds like it! I swear at 0:47 she is trying to do cock-a-doodle-do!!
  4. Awesome! Thanks...I'm going to order one with the foot toys!
  5. Ha! Didn't think about it.....I have a baby TAG, she can't get em off! Sorry I'm a noob
  6. For the time being you could criss-cross 2 zip ties around the horizontal bar it attaches to.
  7. She's beautiful! Congrats! Blueberry is a perfect name!
  8. Today I was sitting on my bed and she was about 2ft away on her playstand and she was happily preening. All of a sudden she started squawking and freaking out. I jumped up and ran over to her thinking she got stung by something or some other awful event when I noticed one of the downy feathers stuck just above her eye LOL. I removed it and all was well again and she went back to preening. Just thought I would share, it had me laughing!
  9. She found the treats...she demolished the lids in the process LOL! I am going to look for small buckets, where did u find them?
  10. Thanks everyone. She really is a great bird! I am having fun with her for sure!
  11. I took Lollie outside this evening on the back porch. She was so interested in everything that was going on around her. We have a lot of Cardinals and other birds around and she was intently listening to them. She is clipped but I know I need to get a harness, its next on my list! I of course had to snap a few pictures! **Sorry, for some reason my images are big even though I resized them!**
  12. Here is my first foraging toy I made today. Let me know what you think. I put it in Lollie's cage...she inspected it but didn't notice the almond, blueberry puff and purple pellet  I am sure she will soon.
  13. I have been busy making my own foraging toys. The ones at the store are just too expensive! My question is, what do you put in them? I want to make it exciting for her to open so she keeps wanting to figure things out. Please let me know what you put in them!
  14. Honestly, I have no idea. Any way you can tell?
  15. In my new house I have Bamboo stalks that line our driveway for privacy from the neighbors. It grows so fast and we have to stay on top of it or it will get out of control. Is this safe for me to give Lollie and possibly to make perches out of? We also have a fig tree so same question there. We will have figs in the fall and I would like to give some to her. Thanks!!
  16. Found out today at the vet Lollie weighs 279g.(at almost 7m) Now that I found this post I know she is in normal range! Thanks!
  17. Just got back from the vet. Lollie is fine! They kept her a few hours to watch her. She was alert/active while she was there and no breathing problems. The vet felt like what I was seeing was related to exertion since it was so short lived. They did a full check of her from nares to vent and found nothing wrong other than she did have an enlarged preening gland but since the vet could express oil it is just something she felt was safe to watch and if it begins to bother her, bring her back. She gave me specific instructions on things to watch for. So I guess Lollie just got her first vet check up =) She gave me a lot of information on keeping an intelligent bird happy with foraging and other activity. She did suggest I change her from Zupreem Fruity to a natural kind with no dyes. She also told me she does not like nutriberries because they do not use human grade seed so she feels there is a potential risk and suggested Harrison's Power Treats. All in all it was a great visit and I am relieved. The vet was very nice and knowledgeable and handled Lollie well. She is also a bird owner. We moved into an older house. I have inspected it for mold and other things. I do not think there are any fumes from the new carpet as it was installed 4 months ago when it first became empty and it was painted then too. Her head shaking and sneezing are normal, they saw her do it...I have been sneezing a lot lately so it could possibly be allergen related. I think I will get a hepa filter(can anyone suggest any?) PS...since we've gotten home Lollie is being her normal self, eating/playing/talking while I type this! I guess I am just an alert yet paranoid bird owner haha!! Thanks for being here for me.
  18. I have noticed yesterday and today occasional(like 3 times for less than a minute in the last 24 hours not including the flight) tail pumping, occasional sneezing, head-shaking and maybe a slight decrease in activity/talking/eating. She doesn't seem as "active" this morning although right now she is eating. Her poops seems totally normal. I have not noticed any discharge or anything from mouth or nose. I started noticing yesterday when she flew off her cage quite a distance and ran on the floor, when I picked her up she was breathing heavily and did some tail pumping...I just figured it was because she rarely flies. All the changes are just very subtle! Am I just freaking myself out? Am I just being too paranoid? As I am typing this she is now done eating and playing/looking out the window and seems fine. The only thing that has changed is we moved to a new house 2 weeks ago but I have kept her schedule etc the same. I have called the vet but they will have to call me back after they speak to the vet because she is "all booked" today. Anyone have any advice in the meantime.
  19. Welcome! This is a great place with lots of info. Great pictures! I love their names.
  20. I want to buy some new toys but I am not sure if a Timneh is considered a Medium or Large bird? I know CAG's are large but Lollie is quite a bit smaller than a CAG. Any advice?
  21. This is my cage...I got it from Petco online and used "BillMeLater" so I could pay it out. (bought other things too!!) I love this cage!! I got Black/Grey and I love the two-tone. Check out the great ratings! They have tons of different cages. http://www.petco.com/product/112992/Marvelous-Pet-Supplies-Chateau-X-Large-Bird-Cage.aspx?CoreCat=MM_BirdSupplies_CagesStands
  22. How cute!!!! Wish you had a video of it!
  23. Lollie was 6 months on May 27th and has started talking and becoming clearer every day. Today she said "Whatcha doing Lollie" as clear as a bell when I walked into the room.(I tend to say that when I walk into the room!) She mutters things all the time that we can't quite catch but she has also said "What" "Step-up" and "Come here" several times. She likes to talk when I am distracted watching tv, doing the dishes etc. so I don't always catch it. She especially likes to talk in the morning when I am making her breakfast. She cracks me up at night...when that girl is ready to go to bed she is ready to go to bed! We still use a sleeping cage. Its a 17x17 cage that the breeder gave me to take her home in. It is still in my closet except we've moved so its a smaller closet but she doesn't seem to mind. Usually sometime between 8:15 and 8:45 she figures out a way to tell me its time for bed....she has flown to the closet a couple of times. We have our bedtime routine. I put her in the cage and go get 2 "purple" pellets from her Zupreem(her favorite color, she always eats them first!) and then give her a drink of water. She usually eats and plays around the cage for about 5minutes and then gets up on her perch and is ready to be covered. Found her a nice table top playgym on Craigslist. Got it for half the price! Had never been used, her bird was afraid of it! Lollie loves it! She has a ball playing and is quite the gymnast. Well sorry to ramble on! That's life in Lollie's world. =)
