My birds love Roudybush...do I really need veggies?
GT_Jacket replied to 1ststatestereo's topic in Bird Food
http://sproutpeople.org/birddr.html My guy loves sprouts. 98% of his diet is Harrison High Potency Coarse and Sprouts. I give him a handfull in the morning and at night. He munches on the Harrison the rest of the day. They provide a large variety in a simple to make and keep package... -
It very much resembled the way it went down. Not too bad.

My guy has never put any food or toy parts in it. My gut tells me food would be okay. If the piece was small enough to not cause the valve to stick open it should be soft enough for them to push/bite the valve stem through it. Also, the valve stem works 365 degrees. Not sure they would operate it other than pushing it down, but they may. Brett

Since day 1... about 9 months now. I keep it on the opposite side of his cage from his pellets (only thing he eats in his cage). I mounted above his water dish to 1) catch drips and 2) catch a flood as you described. Have not had a malfunction yet. The only drips are while he is drinking. I would try it.

He will not destroy or spill this... I have the 16oz one... It is Greyt. http://www.birdsetc.com/birdbutlersstainless.htm

Sprouts (Big Bird from Sproutpeople) + Harrison HP pellets is the staple for my guy. He loves them and it is so easy. I do mix some other organic stuff in from time to time. I rinse well and soak overnight. Rinse WELL the next morning and drain WELL. Rinse WELL that night and drain WELL. Shake the next day a few times and bag that evening (try to get them as dry as possible before bagging) - in the fridge and good for 3-4 days. I use Filtered water and 5 drops of GSE for the soak. Agree... just don't make a 6 month supply like I did until you know they will eat it

Research growing your own sprouts. My guy loves them...

Probably best to discontinue. One of those better safe than sorry situations.

Not necessarily recommended but I actually waited until Echo was about 6 months old before taking him for his 1st visit. I wanted him to be established in his new home, diet, etc 1st. Also gave me time to workup questions and have a better understanding over what the Vet would be telling me. As with Nancy - If I did see anything "fishy" during this time I would have taken him in right away. Also - I weigh in the morning (about once per week) and always after the "morning bomb"... do the same for Echo. Brett

I have 2 kinds in my freezer. Have tried each a couple of times w/o success.. FYI - this is where I got them from http://www.mysafebirdstore.com/cart.cgi?group=0&child=1035

Yes to a wellness checkup. # of times/year may vary from avian vet to avian vet but I would say at least 1 x per year.

Red Palm Oil (RPO) is a part of their natual diet contained in palm nuts. Not a lot is needed - I usually substitute it for the veg oil in making my guys birdie bread. Google to find Organic RPO. This is the one I got - http://www.tropicaltraditions.com/red_palm_oil.htm

Now you guys got me thinking... I love to use a smoker for cooking and often times buy "chunks" of woods to smoke with. I just send this inquiry to this company - ------ Hello - I'm thinking about buying your sample pack for my parrot to chew on. Do you know if any chemicals/pesticides have been used on the trees these chunks originate from (e.g. are they considered organic)? Thanks, Brett ----------- http://www.mainegrillingwoods.com/ about this product they have http://www.mainegrillingwoods.com/buy/smoking-wood/chunk-sampler.html I will have to research whether all 10 varieties are safe... Brett

I also remember only having 10 channels... and that was on our working TV which sat on top of our non working TV

Their web site http://www.thefussyparrot.com/ is not the best... Looks like she has a couple that will be ready in April. http://birdbreeders.com/babydetails.aspx?ID=46124

I have had my guy (Echo) almost 7 months now. He has been a greyt bird. Bonded to me but will let my wife interact with him when I'm not around. My 15 year old daughter... not so much so.

Eventhough I don't live in the country I still could not find a local breeder I liked. The major one in our area raised 100's of birds at a time. I didn't feel the little guy would get the personal attention he needed. I ended up buying online from a breeder in NC. I liked how they abundance weaned, lots of attention and left flighted (if desired). Guess my point is to others - don't rule out going remote if you have too. I think it was $85 additional ($35 crate / $50 airfare) to have him shipped in. Brett

I remember going to work with my dad on Saturdays and playing on the "computer" - a keypunch card making machine...

We have had ours (Echo) for about 7 months now but had to go through the waiting period also. Ours did not come locally so we were not even able to visit... just an updated picture ever now and then from the breeder.

Welcome from just below you (Murfreesboro, TN). I had a couple of month wait too. It goes so slow... Are you getting Elly local and able to visit?
