We also give updates on Rorschach to his previous owner. I don't think she wanted to part with him but because she couldn't bring him to college with her she had to rehome. She brought him here for a visit to check us out to be sure we would be good parronts. She had other people who were interested and she almost went with them because they already had birds and had experience. Luckily they chose us and I thank my lucky stars she did.

You can take them outside but please avoid what had happened to us... We were told Rorschach wouldn't be able to fly up and the previous owner always had him outside without being in a carrier or on a harness so we didn't think anything of it. One day David had him outside talking to his dad and when he was coming in Davids dad started the truck and Rorschach got startled and flew away. After hours of searching and luckily someone had found him (eventually admitting he had him) and gave him back. We were very lucky but we will never be taking him outside without a harness or in a carrier once the weather warms up. So research harness' and carriers or outdoor aviaries and keep them safe.

Damn why on earth didn't I post my story from this morning in here?? The only day I don't get bitten is when I have school in the am and Work in the pm. I usually wake up, feed him and change his water then run out the door and I'm not home till he is already in bed. *Don't worry the bf is home with him so he isn't alone all day* This only happens on Tuesdays and Fridays so every other day I am bitten. Oh and not because I am being horrible, nope it's because the cuteness will get in a mood when I least expect it lol Like todays story I posted earlier about him chomping my ear several times while cleaning his cage. He isn't a territorial kinda bird he is a little brat and knows how to push my buttons lol

hehe too cute! Please tell me you sing the Day-o (Banana Boat) song to him... I am actually listening to it now because of your video

HAHAHA! yeah Rorschach is pretty much like that ALL THE TIME! It started with me leaving the room to go to the bathroom... you know I can't go alone? I mean I never was able to before because I have 2 cats who are pretty much the same they have to always be in the same room as me. I don't know what it is with me and animals but pretty much every pet I have ever owned since I was a child has always been stuck to me. I remember being little in a twin bed with a cat, a poodle and a golden retriever... not a lot of room left for me lol I have 4 other siblings and our pets always chose me over anyone else. Today I was just frustrated because of the biting, normally we can work together and get it done but not today lol

hahaha yeah I picked it up about 10 years ago it started when being sarcastic to a friend who needed a ride. I don't drive so I told her I would come pick her up on my butt LOL it is a nic I have to explain because there are a lot of people who read it the wrong way, if you know what I mean.

He has me wrapped around his little toe lol

It is pretty cool how our pets are in tuned with our health. I threw out my back in February and had been stuck in bed for almost 2 weeks. On day 2 of the pain I was stuck on the floor for almost 6 hours trying to get up to the bathroom and poor Rorschach sat in his cage and watched. He didn't say a word the entire time you could tell he was concerned. While I was in bed the bf would bring him in the room to visit so we could have a snuggle. I get the feeling you are very concerned with poop around your house, if you decide to get any bird that will be let out of his/her cage it is something you will need learn to live with. They poop about once every 20 minutes and like Dave said they will go when they gotta. They are also VERY messy, you will expect food or toys tossed and thrown all over the place. Your clothing may be chewed apart be sure to put on old clothing if you plan on having them rest on you, don't wear anything nice especially if it has anything they can pick off like rinstones lol OH and be prepared to never enjoy your meal by yourself, you will have the cutest feathered head in your food tossing what they don't like and munching on what they do. If you can live with this mess and to never have anything nice again lol you will be a very VERY happy person! These little fids are like toddlers and are just as bratty, manipulative, destructive and messy and we love them all the same. You should expect this with your new fid and also be prepared to fall completely head over heels because they have a way of getting to you like no other.

HAHAHA YES! I mimic Rorschach ALL THE TIME!! he makes such awesome noises i can't help myself. As for in public, does calling your co-workers "bird" count? lol I have a bad habit of calling Rorschach Bird or Birdie bird and my new fav "bude" (it's a made up word, cross between bird and dude) The other day I was yelling to my friend/co-worker to "COME ON BIRD!"

oh Rorschach is out of the cage, he isn't protecting his turf he was just being a brat. LOL He was out of the cage and I had taken the grate out and was cleaning that when he decided to bite. Another bite came when he was watching me shred paper. He has never had a problem with us being in or around his cage even when cleaning. The only thing he would do was try to get the cloth out of my hand when I was cleaning the bars. He gets in his little saucy moods as you all know can come and go. It could also be because I was paying attention to something other then him, he is rather needy. HAHA

haha yeah well if he cleaned his own home then I wouldn't be invading lol these fids not cleaning up after themselves tisk tisk Normally he is pretty cool and just watches either from his perch or my shoulder. It's pretty funny when he jumps on the top tray when I am trying to slide it back. Today he was just being a little brat biting my ear. He has since calmed down and is happily sitting on my head singing. Even in the summer I will not have that luxury, there is no way I will be able to carry his cage down the stairs without taking it to pieces and I am still not sure if there is a hoes hooked up to the building.

yeah we are looking around for carriers. We seen an awesome one online that is like a backpack (you may have seen it) it would be great for walks with Rorschach. It is a bit expensive and money is tight so we have to wait on ordering it. The spare cage is actually a pretty good size, we bought it before we had Rorschach when we were planning on getting a bird. My mom and her hubby were wanting to get birds too so we gave them the cage. They don't use it because they decided on lovebirds and of course the cage is way to large for them. It will do until our finances are back up to par and we can shop for a carrier. The fact that they never grow up is the main reason why I wanted a parrot in the first place. I completely love the toddler stage because they are clumsy, funny and always learning new things. I wouldn't trade Rorschach in for anything either, his pros definitely outweigh his cons (cons being he likes to bite for fun)

David is gone for the day so I thought it would be a great time to fully clean the cage. Well I never realized the need for a little temp cage before today Rorschach has tested my patience big time. He would not stay perched on anything and would keep flying to my shoulder or head and then he would get a nice chomp out of my ear. When I finally finished the inside I had to lock him back up to take a breather. They are SOOO much like toddlers and any non bird owner truly could never understand. I was telling my friend about it and she suggested I lock him in the bedroom until I was done. I should have asked her if that would work with her 2 year old. I think I will be calling my mom to get that spare cage back. It’s not the nicest but it will do for the time it takes to clean his cage. Sorry I just needed to vent, I still love the little devil! Cheers Theresa

omg he is sooo adorable... baby greys are the cutest.

I have never met a TAG but I think they are just as beautiful as a CAG. I love them because they are more dark in colour. @Judygram Rorschach is an escape artist, he had picked the latches on the food dish doors to break them off. One we had to actually jimmy shut because he had loosened it that all he had to do was stand on the dish and it would open. The other one he can't get off unless he is out of the cage, he will climb down the side of the cage and pick it off in hopes that we don't notice so he can escape if we put him back in the cage. As soon as the budget allows it we are going to be shopping for a new cage.

Rorschach picked me as his favorite so our bonding didn't take very long. It has been taken David (bf) a little longer even though he is home all the time but I am glad to report that time and patients on Davids part has paid off, Rorschach will fly to hang with him when I'm not home. Scratching his head was a big deal for David, Rorschach would NOT let David scratch him, I remember how excited David was the day Rorschach decided "hey you're an all right guy, I grant you head scratch duties". So now Rorschach will sit with David and BEG for head scratches only when I'm not home. Yesterday morning while David was still in bed, Rorschach flew from me to Davids computer chair and it seemed as if he was looking for his Dad. He was looking around and even kissing the chair. It was super cute I had to bring him in the bedroom to see him. I have no experiences with other birds really and we have had Rorschach for less then a year but I think if your hubby keeps working with Tarzie, he will be her best friend

Rorschach is the same with pasta, he gobbles it up like a dog who has stolen a piece of meat. If we are having pasta he will fly over to me and dive right into my plate. I don't think it should be a main source of food but it is ok for them. If you get multi-grain it might be better and be sure to add veggies, maybe even a little pasta sauce for some flavor.

Time Out of the Cage and Possible Boredom?
Butttaxi replied to TitaniumPhoenix's topic in Health Room
Rorschach use to do this, we would keep the door open and he would climb in and out and sometimes just sit in there and sometimes he would play with his toys. NOW he never wants to be alone, as soon as we open the cage door he will run up to the top of his cage and perch, when I go to sit at the computer he flies to me. His favorite spot to sit is on my head. I give him a variety of foot toys to chose from which he will throw on the floor and make me fetch them. When he gets bored of the toys he will start preening, chatting or he will just have a nap. He does this with the bf when I'm not home and the last few days he started plucking out David's arm and chest hair, I guess he is preening David. I am afraid he is going to get bored too but he is always interacting with us, he has toys if he wants them but he would rather come hang with us then play all the time. -
yay Ruffles!! I <3 the name!

Welcome... I am pretty new here too but it's a great community here! Rorschach loves to whistle and we will whistle back, it has not stopped him from picking up words and phrases. His vocab isn't huge yet but he is only 2, I am also not concerned with how much he speaks because he is beautiful the way he is. I think their personality will draw you in more then how much they talk... at least that's how I feel.

I agree, they are our children and it should be illegal to steal someones pet... I think the man felt a little guilty when he seen Rorschach with me though, he could then see the bond someone would have with them and I was trying to explain about how close one would get to them. Rorschach isn't clipped but the vet had said he shouldn't be able to fly up because of his spine... the vet here is not an avian vet only has a bit of knowledge. It's really far to get to an avian vet from where I am, It would be a days drive and I would have to stay over night so i can't get a proper opinion unless i have the time off work and school and the extra cash for travel. Rorschach has NO problem flying and he is getting better and better every day. As soon as I can I will be ordering a harness online. When we lost Rorschach for those few hours I had a lot of mixed emotions and he had only come live with us about a month prior. If it happened now after bonding even more I really don't know what I would do. I feel so horrible that you had to go through this but I am so happy you were both reunited.

Totally cute!! Rorschach makes a lot of the same noises and also will say hello when the phone rings. I think they will repeat a new word or phrase over and over when they first learn it, like practice maybe. Rorschach use to call the cat "Here Fatguy" but wont say it anymore it was so cute, but like everyone else said, they will say what they wanna say.

The tears that were welling up finally pored as soon as Cocoa said "Hello Gorgeous" I am soooo glad this has a happy ending. I had a similar experience last fall, Rorschach got out for a fly... we searched for hours and asked everyone in the area where he was seen to touch down to call our phones if they see him. I was in back yards calling and tracking through thick wooded areas, it was insane. After a few hours I started to really get stressed and just wanted to scream and cry. I didn't want to give up. About hour 6 I finally went to my mom and stepdad who lived near where Rorschach went down, they were going to get on the bike and ride around the cliffs (we live near the ocean I was afraid he flew into the ocean) As my parents were getting ready me, the bf and his dad were pulling out of the driveway to do another drive around when a man in a truck pulled up. He knew Art (bf's dad) and asked what we were doing, we told he we were looking for our bird and he asked if it was an African Grey... then said he had it at his place. I didn't believe him until I was reunited with my baby. When we got the guys place I was really angry because I was searching his back yard while they were there, they never said anything to me. He actually said he didn't have any intentions on giving the bird back. If it wasn't for the mans fear of my bf's mom (she's got a rep) we would have never gotten him back. I had to still be grateful that he found him and Rorschach gave him a nasty bite so that makes up for his thinking of keeping him. The man caught him in his back yard which was where David saw him go down, he placed him in this cage thing he had for his chickens. When David went to get him Rorschach didn't want him, so I told him to move so I can get him. I didn't have my hand in fully and Rorschach was reaching to come to me. We were very lucky that day and we will not take that chance again.
