I have to agree with Elvenking, the cops around here were once jock bullies in high school and I remember a lot of my friends being roughed up by cops when we were teens. I have also seen other videos on cops busting into someones house for a drug raid and shot the dog in front of the family. The cops had the wrong house, the people were not drug dealers at all. I am sorry to hear about your dog I hope the cops actually get what they deserve

Thanks Munch, I suppose I should look around more.

I feel the same about the trust being such a gift I almost cried the moment he rubbed his beak on my finger. I know Rorschach has been re-homed a few times in his short little life but I have no doubt that everyone who had him loved him dearly. Bathing you really do have to get creative lol Rorschach's previous owner had said he didn't like to be sprayed and to give him a shallow bath to play in... well he only wanted to play with his toys and when we tried the tub so that there was some dry area as well as water to walk in he never went near the water. We decided to try the spray, I made such a big deal about it he actually started enjoying it. The last little hurdle is he wasn't getting wet enough to my liking so I bought a shower perch. We got this the other day, first shower with it I still had to use the spray bottle after because his feathers were so tight that he didn't really get all that wet. Since he opens up ad gets all silly with the spray bottle I came up with the brilliant idea to take the spray bottle into the shower with us and it worked. I was also able to spry him with the shower head and he didn't tense up after a while and started doing his little silly shower dance.

oh wow I have never seen those before. I can use normal bells it's just thoes little ball bells you see in cat toys and around Christmas. If we buy the little cat toys we cut out the bell and if he plays with anything that has these bells we supervise. these are the bells he cannot have: http://www.kitkraft.biz/files/images/bells/jingle-bells-010.jpg -
So adorable!! I wish I could nap with Rorschach out and about but there are way too many risks like him biting me and possible cat attacks... I am not entirely sure who would win because the cats usually run away from him.
-
I agree with everyone else about him maybe cutting himself on the tape and probably got a good scare along with it. Rorschach does turn his back to us when he is practicing words but this is normal behavior for him and may not be something other fids do.

The bird poop is definitely an embarrassing part for me too. Even if you clean it everyday you will find it somewhere lol walk in it, lean in it, sit in it, find it on your clothes. I am very glad it doesn't have a smell haha

I don't mean completely fill the void but it seriously helps, I can compare raising Rorschach to raising a child. A lot of my friends have toddlers and they are always talking about the funny things they do and I will tell stories about Rorschach and they are very similar to especially the terrible twos lol Of course there are up sides to fids .. you can go out for a few hours and not have to worry about a babysitter, when they are bad beyond your control you can put them in their cage, you don't have to hear whining screaming in a store "Mommy I want it!" and have other people look at you like you are a horrible person...ect. It is also funny when your fid does something that your friends toddler has learned... Rorschach learned to say "up" maybe a month after we had him and one day my friend was all excited about her little daughter finally saying "up" and I was like "oh yay that's great, my bird learned to say that months ago" lol don't get me wrong I wasn't trying to be mean to my friend or anything I was just trying to be funny and she did laugh after telling me to shut up lol -
I read that crock-pots were bad for birds like Teflon is. Oh I hope what I read was false because I LOVE my crock-pot and have since stopped using it after reading that they can be harmful.

I lucked out too, since we re-homed Rorschach we got him and the cage for $800 included with toys (since destroyed and replaced several times over) He had just recently been to the vet prior to coming to us, he had a little bell caught in his beak (he is not allowed to have those anymore) Other then the Scoliosis he is a healthy little monster. Eshana I am glad you are deciding to get a CAG, I have read your story about not being able to have children and I will say that a CAG may help fill that void. I am not sure if I can have babies, I have never tried but do to my bf's personal issues (baby momma drama) I don't see children in our future. Rorschach has helped me with filling that void. -
awwwwe baby chicks are sooo precious! Love the name, my friend names everything after cars lol she named her dog Audi and her daughter is named Alexis.

This is what I do for Rorschach, he gets good food I make him every day like this morning was a mash of carrots, broccoli, coli flour, red yellow and orange peppers all mixed into a scrambled egg. Later I will probably give his some carrot, corn and green beans not sure if I will go with pasta or rice yet. We use fresh and frozen veggies and we usually will cut up the fresh and freeze it... as you all know produce can spoil pretty quickly so it's more convenient then trying to get to a grocery store every day. Right now we have been getting Kaytee Gourmet Parrot Food and I am not entirely sure if this is bad due to the amount of seed in it and other possible chemicals . Rorschach doesn't seem to have any health issues and his droppings are perfect ,some days may be watery depending on the veggies or fruit I give him but I am sure that is normal. I would prefer not feeding him anything with coloring or unwanted chemicals but you have to work with what you have. The reason I brought up the Fruit Blend was because I can get it locally and it is affordable. I will definitely check the next time I'm there to see if they have something more natural. Thanks to everyone who has responded I am loving all your feedback and the information provided.

Inky this is pretty much how Rorschach is, I am pretty short and I think this is part of the reason why he wants on my head/shoulder. I only see him do this with other people who are short like my friend who Rorschach has a crush on and little kids if over he will now fly to their heads. I can't really offer advice since I have this problem with my own fid but since this post has been created I have not let Rorschach perch on my shoulder at all and as soon as he tries I stop him or take him off. He still likes to perch on my head after a bath to preen which I am ok with because he isn't at my face and he just sits there preening.

All these updates are so great It's awesome that he is adjusting so easily, when we re-homed Rorschach I was prepared for the worst. I read all about how it could take up to a month for them to really get comfortable in a new home and it would take a lot of time and patience on our part to respect his wishes and wait for him to come to us. Like Gilbert, Rorschach took to us very quickly and didn't really show much distress being in a new home or with new people. He didn't make any noises for the first 2 days but on day 3 he started whistling and making different noises so that was a big deal for us. Each day he did show more improvement , it definitely wasn't an over night thing but he adjusted very rapidly which surprised us. By the second week he was rubbing his beak on my finger while holding him.

All these pics are making me want an Amazon more. They are so beautiful. I have watched a lot of youtube videos of them and they all seem to have such awesome silly personalities. Some day I hope I can adopt one Of course we are sticking with the one bird until we own our own place and will have more room.

Thanks Ray, that was what I thought but wasn't 100% sure. So far his beak is fine, it does chip and he will rub it on his perches to file it down so he is doing well so far with taking care of his beak. I think the cement perch is by far the best perch we own because he keeps his nails and beak filed nicely. Cheap or free wood is always a plus lol I live near a lot of wooded area so once the snow is completely gone I will be checking for some nice branches.

I love the apples and cinnamon idea! hat about vanilla extract? My dad use to heat up some vanilla in the microwave to add a nice smell to the house, would this also be an ok for birds?
-
Rorschach eats his veggies so I am not really concerned with him only eating the pellets. He eats really good and even has a bit of what we have as long as it is birdie health approved.
-
haha thanks ... my non conformity is kicking in and I didn't read the rules fully lol sorry
-
Thanks for the information. I don't want to just feed him pellets, I will still continue with his regular diet I just want to not offer as much seed but always have something he can munch on between meal times
-
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! these are ALL awesome! Thanks I needed that!
-
Alright sorry everyone else but I have to vote for

This is just a guess but it could be like when we humans weigh ourselves, in the morning we usually weigh less due to not eating anything yet and then through out the day we eat which could weigh us down a little more. Also wanted to add not to get discouraged with offering new veggies, like everyone else said they can be picky eaters and if you keep offering they will eventually try it and possibly like it. From all I have read so far, converting their diets from an all seed diet to a healthy diet can take time.
