  1. So glad to hear! He does sound like one tough bird! Hope he gets to come home soon! Thanks for the updates. I will keep praying for him.
  2. So a few hours is OK. I probably take things out too soon if anything.
  3. I sure hope my grey lives to a ripe old age. I take very good care of all my pets and love them so much. Nothing more painful than losing a loved one, pets included. Thankyou for clearing up the peanut issue. Finney does LOVE peanuts for a special treat. I have bought the ones in the grocery store before since they are cheaper than the ones at our local pet store. So much to learn from everyone. Thankyou again.
  4. What is the vinegar water solution ratio? Does it have to be a certain amount? Sounds easy and cheap enough for me! Thanks for your tips.
  5. So awesome! I started to get scared reading that thinking about Irene Pepperburg and Alex. So glad it is all good. How lucky to have him so in love w/ you! Happy Valentines Day! Love is in the air.
  6. Does anyone use a steam cleaner? I tried the Shark handheld but not super impressed. I have been looking at some better steamers but would love some recommendations. I like the idea of no chemicals. What are the ratios for some of the homemade cleaners everyone seems to be using? Are they harmful when not yet dry? ex. peroxide or vinegar & H2O How do you care for rope perches? Can they be cleaned/
  7. What about the seed mixes that contain peanuts? Should I pick the peanuts out or is the whole mix bad if it has a peanut here and there? I guess variety is the key when it comes to what to feed. How long do greys live as pets, on average? I'm sad. I thought it was possible for them to live 40+ yrs. What is a reasonable age if well taken care of? 25? 30?
  8. I really need to do this too... you have inspired me...what a good bird mom. How long do you leave it in the cage?
  9. I can sooo relate to all of these stories! If Finney ever nips at me she will right away say "OOooo!" after she does it. Exactely what I would do. She does say what alot too. My husband and I always joke that we're going to have to get that bird a bird hearing aide! When my mom pet sits for us she tells me Finney sounds just like me. She would think I was home if she didn't know better. We have a running list of all that she says. Pretty long list!
  10. So funny! I love when you see them making kissing noises. It looks so funny since they do it so different from us since they can't pucker up! Cracks me up everytime!
  11. I love the baby picture especially! They are so darn cute!!! How is Linus doing? I keep thinking about him and hope he is getting better each day.
  12. Cute! Finney says that too along w/ "What's goin' on in there?" Love it! Thanks for the smile!
  13. What about the red feathers growing on Suess's neck? Is that normal? I had read that it could be a liver problem. Hopefully his new environment and diet will fix him up. Not to mention the love he is now getting. Just curious.
  14. Such cute pics! What a companion!
  15. I agree w/ the others. I think you should get a Grey. It sounds like you have done a good job learning about them before just jumping in. I tossed the idea around for a while then thought, they live a long time. I better get one before I am older so I can spend a long time w/ them too. I sure hope she is w/ me until I am 70ish yrs old or more. I think I visited my grey several times before I actually took her home. I had to decide between 2 TAGs. I LOVE my Finney Foo! Good luck!
  16. I worry about the same thing. I usually cut the strings off. Do you think that is safe or do I have to scrap the whole toy?
  17. New to the story of Yoshi. So glad Yoshi is going to a good home. This is something I worry about should anything ever happen to me. None of my friends have birds. Glad I found the forum to make some "bird friends". What a tough decision.
  18. So cute! I can't wait! Thanks for telling us about it. I hardly ever go to the show but will have to see this!
  19. OMG! Thank God Zak is OK. What a scary thing. I'm going to check out the Tinkerbell Mash thing. Sounds interesting.
  20. Awesome! I have never been to a bird fair, but would love to go! Are there any around the Chicagoland area? Don't know of any but if anyone else does, please let me know. I'm a sucker for toys for my pets.
  21. I don't know if this is wrong or not, but when Finney does this to me, I use a wooden spoon handle and put it by her and say up up. She protests but always gets on the spoon and then I can hold her once she is out. She is very sweet then after she is out. I usually just make it quick and give her a few pets then put her back and let her come out on her own if she wants to. I just don't want her to think she can attack me when I stick my hand in her cage. She does try to attack me if I am doing some quick cleaning up in her cage. She usually rips my hair out! I feel like I am messing w/ her stuff though when I do that so I just try to do what I need to w/o getting plucked! I don't reward her until she behaves the way I want her to.
  22. So precious! Love those moments.
  23. Too funny! I love it! I guess that just goes to show us they may say anything. I say starvin Marvin too but Finney doesn't that she always says 'Dinner...Dinner'. We don't know Finney's sex but she started calling herself Mr. Finney Foo. ?????Maybe she is trying to tell us something.
  24. That is too funny! That is one thing for sure, they always manage to crack us up! My birds yell at the dogs too. I hope Brandy is OK. Thanks for the smile!
  25. I made some like this too. They work very well in my opinion. How did you do the bowls? I did mine a little diff but am always looking for new ideas. These are great. Since they are inexpensive, you can have multiples and also change them up for something new. I'll try to post some pics of mine.
