You can't have just one!!! Meet Rocky (formerly Rafiki). We welcomed him to our home yesterday. He's a 4 year old male that needed a new home. His family was moving to a smaller home and didn't have room for him. It took about 6 hours to clean his cage. He hasn't came out of his shell quite yet, but I'm sure it won't be too long. I took a couple of pics before and after I cleaned his cage. He had just about enough of me cleaning it so that's why he's got the "fluffy" look. Between going to a new home and a 2-day cage cleaning, he was just a bit on the pissy side. That's okay, at least he's clean and comfy so happy shouldn't be too far away.......anyway, here's Rocky!

I'm going to give the pictures a try. Brandy is my 10 year old boxer. Millie is my 11 year old CAG. Zoe is my 11 year old lab. Jazzy is my 8 year old lab and Draven in my 8 year old boxer.

Nice looking flock and pack! Sorry to hear about Lily. I have a boxer, Brandy, that is losing the use of her back legs. She can still walk but some days it's a challenge for her. Al least she doesn't seem to be in any pain. I'm just enjoying every minute with her because they are limited. I'll try to post some pics later, I have a house full of guests coming any minute. I just sat down at the pc to relax a minute before they get here.

Thankfully I have NOT taken my fids there. It was during a phone call, and I didn't make an appointment to take them there! There aren't many avian vets in my area, but he isn't the only one.
-
I had an avian vet tech tell me last week that I should only feed Harrison's pellets and nothing else. He said no fruits, no veggies, no nuts....only Harrison's. He tried to convince me that the pellets were better, safer and more healthy than fresh veggies. When I asked about where to buy this magical food, he said "Oh, we sell it here. Only vet offices sell it". Ummmm, I just have a hard time believing that pellets should replace all other food. Variety seems healthier to me. Mille has a limited list of veggies/fruits that she'll eat so I use pellets to supplement her diet. I also trick her by making a yam based mash with carrots, broccoli and other veggies hidden it it. She doesn't like nuts either. So I get to experiment in the kitchen until I find healthy foods she'll eat. Fun for both of us!

Is there such a thing? Are they hubby safe? hehe

Well, she didn't think much of Thursday's show. Maybe she had enough of all that foolishness! I had my camera ready, maybe that's why she stayed quiet......booger..

Thanks everyone, that helps. One concern I had was the lima beans. I thought I had read somewhere that lima beans were not good for parrots. I have a 15 bean mix that contains the following: Northern Pinto Large and baby Lima beans Blackeye Garbanzo Green and yellow Split Pea Kidney Cranberry bean Small white Pink bean small red Lentil Navy white kidney black bean I want to make sure these are all safe. Thanks again....

I wanted to know what kind of beans are good for parrots and how do you prepare them. Also, what kind of beans should I NOT feed my girl. Are all nuts okay for them or are some I should avoid also? I found the fruit/ veggie list but not much on beans. Thanks so much, Carla

While we were watching American Idol last night, Millie seemed to have a few opinions of the singers herself. She was preening herself on her favorite perch but during an audition should would look up long enough to either bust out laughing, give a loud "raspberry" sound (okay, sounds like she needs a diaper) or a long, low sounding moan.....ooooooooooo! Sometimes she agreed with the judges, sometimes not. But I had more fun watching and listening to her than the show! Just wanted to share. It was my daily dose of parrot amazement! Carla

That's really interesting. I would have never thought of how a parrot would react to twins. Thanks for sharing!

Whew, thank you judygram. I was a little hesitant on the possibility of adding another, especially if it were the opposite sex.

Bob the Builder!

Foraging maybe? Millie does it too. She'll go days without doing it then do it several times a day. I'm kinda curious to know myself.........

Wonderful news! Wooooo Hooooo!!! Great pics too....I think he's smiling in the last pic....hehe

Is it possible to have a male and a female CAG without them bonding//mating as long as they are kept in separate cages? I currently have a female CAG and have the opportunity to get a male but I don't want them to breed or lose interest in people. They would have separate cages but possibly outside of cage playtime together.....any advice or thoughts?

Glad to hear it's going well. I also have a rehomed grey, she just turned 11 years old. I've had her about 4 months now and she's finally coming out of her cage for a few hours a day. I guess she hadn't been several years before I got her. She has almost climbed up my leg the other day while I was on the floor, but she's not quiet there yet. She won't let me touch her but will rub my hand or arm if I rest it close to her. So we're coming along, just slowly. Oh, and she hates my husband too! She's fairly quiet until he leaves the room. She'll puff the second he comes near the cage. Your story gives me more confidence that bonding with her is still possible. But if not, we have fun anyway! Best of luck, Carla

Must be how they named "Livingston Ave." that runs through it. I can tell you how he made tomatoes taste better...he squished them up, add some oregano and a few other spices, put it on some dough and added cheese and pepperoni on top! hahahaha
-
I love the name Brutus! (Brutus Buckeye) Goooooooo Bucks!
-
Ahhhh, I've been to the Tomato Festival a couple of times! Good luck with lona!

Thanks Barbara. I have a few of these on Millie's toys but I check and tighten them almost daily after finding one open. The ones I use are more oval rather than pear shape. I'm glad Neo is okay and you too!
-
Hello fellow Buckeye! I have some family that lives on the east side of Columbus, off of Noe-Bixby Road.....I actually grew up in the Grove City area. Good luck with the new CAG! If you have never owned one, wow, just you wait! It's been a total blast, just don't expect much and when it happens you'll be amazed! They'll warm up at their own pace.

I presume that is Millie in your avatar but if you have any more pictures of her you would share with us we would love to see them. Yes, that is Millie in my avatar! She had only been with me for about 3 days and I opened her door to see if I could coax her out. She hadn't been out of the cage in years, and that was the look she gave me......Like, "You want me to do what?!" kind of look....too cute.

Thanks for the welcome! We live in a very small town, actually it's considered a "village", North Lewisburg. It's located between Marysville, Urbana and Bellefontaine. I got Millie from the Mansfield area. I also have 4 parakeets and 4 dogs, 2 labs and 2 boxers. Unfortunately one of my boxers, Brandy, is living on borrowed time now. She has Degenerative Myelopathy. She's loosing the use of her hind legs. So, we just enjoy everyday we have left with her!

Thank you, Dave. Right now Millie is having a "weird noise" contest with my son and she keeps having these big out bursts of laughter! I need a camcorder with a faster start up! I've been cruising the play stand threads. I think making one just might be one of my winter projects......
