An interesting and more positive spin on the whole situation. Thank you for sharing...

I'll admit I got distracted and peeked at some of the other videos in the YouTube sidebar. Loved the one where Jake was trying to take a bath, and Dayo kept chasing the poor little guy off!

Like I said, the impression I got was just that he wants an eclectus now instead of a grey. And what happens when he tires of the eclectus and wants a macaw or something? The little Timneh was so sweet-looking in his pictures, full-feathered, curious-looking... don't know what the guy's problem is.

I'm so glad Yoshi was able to find such a good new home.

Oh, he's a darling boy! <3

And I'm trying to be "wide-hearted" about it, maybe there's more to the story than what they posted, maybe something... maybe whatever... but the attitude just seemed to be, I don't want a grey anymore, I want an eclectus instead. So I'm just mad! And I hope it's okay that I'm posting about it all here.

What to do...a Grey not being taken care of well
MarcusCAG replied to HeatherStrella's topic in The GREY Lounge
Barbara2, you hit the nail on the head. I've been lurking here in this thread for a while now because I just don't know what to say anymore. I just feel so bad for Otis, I was hoping he would be rescued somehow and find a wonderful forever home with people who cared. Hopefully, maybe, somehow, he still can--but it hurts to think of all the little ones, human or animal, out there who aren't loved right now like they should be. -
I hope this is the place to post this... sorry if it's not. Just want to vent! I peruse Craig's List occasionally--we found both Marcus and Beaker there, and so I guess even though we're not "looking" for anyone else to add to our flock/family at this point, I'm still curious who's out there. I like to think these animals will find nice homes, so many of them seem to come from moving/going back to work/etc. type situations. ANYWAY... so there's this ad for a little Timneh grey, the person went on and on about how much time they've given this bird, how well-behaved it is... and they just want an eclectus, and they'll trade bird for bird. No money, just a straight-up trade. I was reading this post in horror and thinking, What about your little grey? If it's really been treated so well, you'd think this person would have some sort of attachment to their pet and realize it has feelings too. But no... they just want an eclectus with a 'similar disposition' and they don't want their grey anymore. It's like an object or something. Can you say A.N.G.R.Y.????

I love her "I love you", so cute!

"P is for parrot!" Ooh, I love it!

I just read your post to my hubby and the consensus is that your Timmy sounds like he was acting like our Beaker (Quaker parrot) does so much of the time anymore--except it's anyone's guess as to what sets him off! We think he's just going through a phase and hopefully it will pass soon. (Honestly, it's just out of the blue sometimes, he starts the head-bobbing thing and starts shrieking, and Marcus chides him with a "Beak-errrr! Stop!") Either way, at least for you and Timmy, I'm glad things are back to normal in spite of your haircut.

Thank you so much for all of the input, everyone, I really appreciate all of your different perspectives.

Oh, my! What a beautiful boy Rocky is! He is so handsome in that second picture, I think... congrats on your new little man, I am sure once you have all grown accustomed to each other then things will just blossom from there.

What a beautiful boy Dorian is! I love the look he has in that third picture in your first post... such a lovely, placid, thoughtful expression. I'm so glad he's learning to regain trust with your family right now!

What a cute little red tail he has in that one picture. Hehe! Made me want to turn him around and give him a kiss on the top of his head!

Oooh, that's cute! Thanks for sharing!

Hello everyone... Just a quick question, since I Googled this yesterday when I had a few minutes and got a number of conflicting results, and then when I did a Search here in the forums I didn't find anything directly relating to this concept... So I'm just wondering: If avian eyes can even perceive the images on a computer screen (laptop) as distinctions and not just flashing lights, would it be all right to expose parrots to it for an extended length of time, as long as sufficient space is between the bird and the screen? In other words, on a whim I put in a SpongeBob DVD into my laptop in the boys' room yesterday--I've never really tried to expose them to TV before--and both Marcus [CAG] and Beaker [Quaker parrot] seemed absolutely mesmerized by it. When the door was closed they were chatting up a storm, and when it wasn't and/or I was in the room with them they were just staring. But then I had the thought and went online to check this idea of mine out, and I got a bunch of different results in my Google search. Yes, parrots can perceive the images that are on the screen, and No they can't because of differences in the way they sense light and color (compared to humans). Yes it's safe for them to watch a computer screen as long as it's not two inches away from their faces and No, the lights are harmful and induce seizures. So... I don't know. I thought I'd throw this out to everyone here in hopes of a more educated and definite reply. Thanks!

Well, guess who's switching out the oval-shaped links from the cage of Beaker (Quaker parrot) to the cage of Marcus (CAG), and vice-versa with the pear-shaped ones! Thank you so much for this heads-up, and I'm so glad to hear that Neo is okay after his fright... the poor thing...

I've been skimming over this thread the past few days... I'll finally stop lurking, haha. Well, I will admit, Marcus seems to have a number of sounds that mean "no" and he seems to switch them freely upon a whim--but it's probably just me losing something in the translation! A lot of times it's a loud 'clack' kind of sound, and he has this funny sound like something squeaky on a hinge that might mean "yes", but I really don't know for sure. It doesn't seem consistent (not that I have ever heard an English "yes" pop out of his beak, but he certainly says "NO!" well enough when he wants to!). Either way, I have been thinking lately that a lot of what I think are bizarre human-world noises (like the aforementioned 'squeaky hinge') might actually just be natural Grey vocalizations that I am assuming are things from my environment because my ear might twist them into more familiar tones, so thanks for starting this thread! It provides a lot of food for thought...

Probably the weirdest question ever asked...
MarcusCAG replied to gotfaith1989's topic in The GREY Lounge
Well, our little Quaker parrot Beaker was a plucker before we got him, and sadly his feathers have not grown back even now... I don't think they ever will. So he has a little 'necklace' of missing feathers around his neck. Sometimes when he moves his head, his neck looks like a smaller version of what your photograph does. But it's not as pronounced either (the air), so that could just be the difference between species, if it is normal on bird necks in general. Personally it's never been at all a concern for me with Beaker, but if you think something is maybe wrong with your Rocky because of that extra air, then it wouldn't hurt to have it checked out. P.S.- I just looked again and realized that, from your photo, it looks like that is the BACK of Rocky's neck. Beaker has a naked front of his neck. Perhaps there is really no correlation then, I'm sorry. -
It's not lame! Marcus came with another name too but--we just could not call him what those other people named him, so we knew we had to give him a better and more appropriate name instead. And now he uses it occasionally, himself, so we think it's worked out okay in that regard. Timmy is a nice name, though. I knew it was "Timmy the Timneh" when I first started reading your posts.

Hehe. That's too cute! Thanks for sharing the pics.

What a neat idea for a thread! And that's so cute about Thumper--I love it! Anyway, if I'm being completely honest, Marcus was really kind of named after one of our favorite characters in the sci-fi show Babylon 5. When we adopted our Beaker, our Quaker parrot, he was supposed to be my husband's for all intents and purposes, even though I would primarily care for him; because I wanted a Grey but we couldn't afford one at the time. So my husband picked the name 'Beaker' for our little green man due to his (my hubby's) love for science and experimentation, and I was fine with that. But with Marcus... he came into our lives so quickly, and although I had wanted to name my Grey-of-the-future "Jeffrey" if it was a male, my husband said absolutely not!! So I kind of was like, Well, he's supposed to be my bird, Beaker's your bird, and my husband was like, Anything but Jeffrey. So we threw out a few names while we were driving home with this lovely Grey in a carrier on my lap, and my husband suggested finally, "Marcus?" And the character on Babylon 5 was so loyal, and honorable, and true, that I couldn't help but think of good things when I heard the name. So I said, "Marcus is good," and that's how he got his name; and honestly I can't see him as anything other than Marcus now, he's my baby boy. :)

I'm sorry, I wish I had something objective or helpful to contribute, but my only thought is to ask if the vet was a man? Maybe if he handled her badly and gave her such a bad clip, now that she's had a few falls she's associating her pain with men?? Either way, I'm just sorry to hear about Gracie's troubles right now, and I hope that you can figure everything out together soon.
