  1. I have to agree. It is great hearing these stories! It has been so fun to enjoy the adventure from you getting Marcus through his blending in with his family. There are others here who have started us on the journey and now they are missing in action. Thanks for keeping it up!
  2. This is one wooden toy that Neo just destroyed in a matter of days! http://www.mysafebirdstore.com/product.cgi?group=1962&product=7580 It may be another dead end but Neo sure had fun with it.
  3. I would say once a day. I want to add that is making me very nervous. One of the pieces of information I read in the directions for giving birds antibiotics is that after you treat for 5 days, you should follow up with something else to restore the good bacteria needed in their system. If you have no option of an avian vet in India, I really would suggest scouring the internet and educating yourself more on this. I want to help but I do not want to lead you to do something that is going to harm your baby. I have no education at all in handfeeding and caring for a baby bird. That's why my baby is still with the breeder and will be for another 2 or 3 months.
  4. This is the response that I got from my breeder. (REMEMBER! She is not a veterinarian and has not even seen your bird. She is basing this on the information I passed on to her from your post.) Sounds to me that this bird has a bacterial infection and he is at risk of losing this baby. He should get this baby on Zithromax as soon as possible. I only know how to mix up and dose the powder Zithro that I get from the pharmacy. I use Azithromycin for Oral Suspension (dry without them adding water to it). Then I take 5 grams of Azithromycin and add 2.5 grams of sterile water. The dosage is then 0.1 cc per 100 grams of body weight. I hope this helps.
  5. Thanks! The breeder thinks he's going to be a great bird. She says I have a boy with the personality of a girl. I'm not sure if she's insulting all the boys out there but she considers it a plus.
  6. Here is another picture from Tuesday showing Egan, "little bright eyed one". (I'm getting a new cell phone tomorrow. Hopefully the picture quality will be better.)
  7. IT'S A BOY! So now I can divulge his name. I have known his name since June 17th. I had sent an email asking for the names of the parents. I asked because on her website she has pictures of her breeders. But the two names she gave me were not on there. (Her page is very far from updated.) The parrot parents are Emily and Logan. So as I was laying in bed the name Egan came to me. (Pronounced EE-gahn). It is the E from Emily and the -gan from Logan. The next morning I did a search and found that it is a name of Celtic Irish origin and means "little fire" or "little bright eyed one". I truly didn't care what the sex was. I felt from the beginning that he was a boy and I struggled for a girl name. When the breeder sent me an email telling me that she felt this bird is a blessing to me, I looked up "names meaning blessing" and found Keiko (pronounced KEH-koh). It is a Japanese word meaning "blessing". (Feel free to steal since I won't be using that one.)
  8. I've had some success hanging toys on the outside of the cage before I hang them inside. Being outside seems to pique the interest and curiosity a bit.
  9. I really can't do that. She is very, VERY busy as she is caring for many adult birds (she boards other people's birds while they are away) and she is hand feeding six other babies in addition to mine right now. She also has her own pet birds. It may be tomorrow before she responds to my email. If you have a veterinarian that you are using, it might be faster to contact that person. Many people are reluctant to give advice over the internet for fear it will be the wrong advice and might damage your baby. Perhaps the breeder of your baby could give you some advice and direction as well.
  10. It is actually the breeder of my baby bird that I was talking to, not my vet. I just sent her an email asking for more information about the antibiotic she uses.
  11. I will check with her about the antibiotics.
  12. An African Senegal is also a pretty good first bird. They are small and have a great personality. And quiet like a grey.
  13. I was talking to my breeder today about your baby and she recommended having antibiotics on hand in the event of a bacterial infection. She said that India is the best place to get antibiotics for baby birds. She is in the States and she gets her antibiotics from India. She said bacterial infections are the biggest problem when hand feeding and spoon feeding can increase the risk. (I didn't ask why she thought that.)
  14. Wow! It seems like just yesterday that you were bringing Cody home. Happy Hatchday!
  15. Here is today's picture. 31 days old, 182 grams. The DNA test went out yesterday so I should know next week if this is a girl or a boy.
  16. Your little girl is beautiful! And you are right, we love pictures. As to your question regarding tapatalk, it was brought up here: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?192941-Mobile-app-forum-support
  17. What a fabulous introduction! Very nice to meet you.
  18. Here is a picture from yesterday. That would be exactly one week after the last picture I posted. This is a picture the breeder sent me. I'm going for a visit this afternoon so I will get some additional pics. Look at the size of that foot!!
  19. I can only relate my personal story: My daughter wanted a parrot when she was 12. We rehomed an African Senegal that belonged to her piano teacher. My daughter is now 29 and I'm sitting here looking at "her" Senegal in my home. When she moved out she decided it would not be in Rocky's best interest to move him out of our house. He was very bonded to us as we were around a whole lot more than she was. Her dad was (and still is) Rocky's preferred person. That is something you might want to consider in helping to make a decision of now or later.
  20. He is a beautiful bird! It is very nice to meet you both.
  21. You have come to the right place. Non-bird people really don't get it. Everybody here LOVES the stories, the questions, the concerns. And most of all, THE PICTURES! I think I can speak for everyone and say that we can never get enough of hearing the cute antics, new words, crazy playtimes and any and all pictures. I know that I love to have all these birds brought to life in pictures. I can never get enough.
  22. Thanks! I'm glad to meet you and it will be wonderful to share all your steps in your journey in life with your bird, as well as the rest of the family! Enjoy the ride!
  23. He is magnificent! What are the vitals? Family? Age of your baby? An "only" child? Spill!!
