  1. Diego always does this when he's all relaxed. It's a happy parrot sound
  2. That's a great idea putting something he is scared of by the cooker. Now I've just got to work out what he's scared of, difficult with an Amazon who likes to act like he's scared of nothing. LOL. Oooo, I've just had an idea with this, above the hobb is an extractor fan, maybe if I pull this out and put it on full blast the noise may scare him from approaching. Thanks Talon
  3. I never judge others from hearsay, and as far as I was concerned, it went in one ear and out of the other. Great news that Onyx is doing so well, I can't wait to see more photos of him!
  4. Just think though, when your kids are all grown up, Tui in years to come will still remind you of what they sounded like when they were younger! He will be like a vocal keepsake of the children
  5. I loved the story about Shindlers List and felt that this was a story that needed to be heard, however, as far as I know the film makers and production team never required money from the people it effected all those years back? If you feel that you have a worthwhile film, this is your call and down to you to fund it. By using the word donations you are implying that it is for a charitable cause, the only place I see the money going at the end (if the film is a hit) is back in your pocket. Can you explain why you feel you are a charity? Where the money will be going? What the money will be used for i.e. conservation of wild parrots, protection of endangered species, protection of abused and neglected animals? And finally your registered charity number to prove that you are an legitimate charity. Without these, all you are doing is begging and misleading people to part with their money. Basically what you are trying to do is to find investors into your film, when I invest into anything, I need to know what the money will be used for, where the profits will go, the percentage of my return (or in this case the percentage that would go to the Alex Foundation). However, it seems to me that nobody investing will receive a return from the film, not even The Alex Foundation. Below is a quote from your website The above quote does not make sense when your previous post stated: After visiting your website, there is nowhere that explains how this will benefit The Alex Foundation and what percentage of money they will receive from the profits of the film. After visiting the Alex Foundation website, there is no mention at all about this film. Both of these things ring alarm bells to me and leads me to ask the question, why should I invest? What's in it for me or the Alex Foundation? Another thing that rings alarm bells, is there are no other contact details other then a free gmail email account. Any respectable business, would include a HQ address and contact telephone numbers. I hope that with what I have outlined above, you can now understand why you have recieved this kind of response from this forum. I have a very deep love and passion for our feathered friends and have no problems with donating to worthwhile causes and charities. However, I am also a businesswoman and will not be wanting to invest into your project as the information you have provided is less then satisfactory. Good luck with your movie (if there is one), I hope there won't be too many disappointed people out there that have invested into it.
  6. Hola is Diego's first word as well. How are they going with feeding, I'm still having to give Diego mashed up food in the morning and evening. Although he is getting much better with eating on his own, I'm just having trouble getting him to eat his veggies unless they are mashed up and he cannot recognise them.
  7. Hehe, now that's what I call a family vacation! Would love to see some of your vacation photos
  8. "Hola. Me llamo es Diego, soy un Amazona pero yo vivo en Espana. Diego no es un nombre rado pero muy popular aqui en Espana, y tambien me encanta Go Diego Go en la tele! Un Saludo." I will now translate for my little friend: "Hello. My name is Diego, I am an Amazon but I live in Spain. Diego is not a strange name but is a very popular here in Spain and I also love Go Diego Go on the TV! Greetings
  9. Onyx is a real cutie, I love those baby parrot noises! I couldn't help but notice that there was an ashtray right behind him. Cigarette smoke can be highly toxic for parrots of all ages, even if you do not actually smoke whilst the parrot is in the room, the fumes can still linger for some time afterwards. I am a smoker so I don't want to come across as someone preaching about smoking, but I do only smoke out of the house, just to save my kiddies including Diego inhaling any of the smoke.
  10. Not at all Tweedle, all ideas are very welcome! I've been looking on the internet and for my type of hobb there are no covers that I can see. You can buy a similar hobb with a glass raised cover attached but nothing to fit stand alone. At the moment, Diego seems to be staying clear of the kitchen area. However, I'm still watching him closely when there is any cooking going on. At the moment I am putting pans over the hot parts which I think will be fine until I come across something else.
  11. I'm not sure if there is a minimum time to start training a bird, as I am pretty new to all this myself. However, I would think that training can start from a very young age just by getting him used to being touched in certain places. Whilst he is cuddly why not do some simple training that may help for any future vet visits. Like lifting his wings and touching his feet. This training to him could be incorporated into your cuddles but will get him not only used to being handled and touched but also will help him to be much more calmer when having a check up at the vets. You could also get him used to a clicker, so that he understands what it is for. Just click and treat so that he learns that when he hears that clicking sound there is a treat to follow and will also help to start to get him more engaged into future training.
  12. YAY, what great news, I can't wait to hear about Jakob's slow road to recovery. Time now to nurse your new baby and your tongue LOL.
  13. I'm also new to the forum, but want to send you my condolences and am sorry for your loss
  14. I have never learn't so much about food nutrition in such a short space of time, since having Diego. LOL, he's making me look at food in a whole new light!
  15. They are beautiful, so bright and sparkly eyed! I guess your house gets pretty noisy at times LOL.
  16. Ooooo, I never knew this! I have been buying the more expensive seedless grapes just so I did not have to pit them. Now I know better, I can save a bit of money LOL
  17. I'm loving this thread! Diego pins his eyes for so many reasons, I personally think that the pinning of the eyes is there way of naturally showing that they are taking everything in and are stimulated. If Diego's eyes pin whilst lowering his head and fluffing up just his head feathers I know he wants a scratch. However, if his eyes are pinning with his head forward but all of his feathers fluffed out, he's saying "back off, I'm not in the mood" If his eyes are pinning with all of his feathers slicked back and his head up tall and back he is being spooked by something or is unsure of something. I must admit that I do not watch Diego's eyes for signs of aggression but like danmcq says the whole of his body. Although I do know that when Diego's eye's are almond shape and he's fluttering his eyelids, he's putty in my hand. But again I do not become complacent as this moment of total relaxation in Diego can change within a split second. I've also got to know Diego's patterns. For example, he hates to be petted or asked to be stepped up for at least 1/2 hour after he's eaten or first thing in the morning after being in his cage all night. After he has had a shower, there is just no getting near him, he's completely fired up and over stimulated and this lasts normally until his feathers have pretty much dried out. I have to admit that just walking away from Diego when all I want to do is show him how much I love him it is one of the hardest things to do. But he is not my pocession and therefore I have no right to throw myself at him whenever I feel like it. I just wait until he asks me and when he does, it's a wonderful feeling knowing that he really wants my attention I almost feel privileged that he trusts me enough to ask. Diego also often misleads me, I never know if it was my fault for missing something he was trying to say to me beforehand. If he suddenly has a change of heart and decides "actually, thinking about it I'm not in the mood" or like Dayo, is having a laugh! Trying to figure Diego out is reminding me a lot of when I was single and meeting someone who blew hot and cold all of the time. Funny really, I never put up with that from someone when I was single but with Diego, I seem to be a complete sucker for him LOL!
  18. They are beautiful! How old are they now?
  19. Really interesting!
  20. Thanks cass, I think these covers are for the raised type electric hobbs. My hobb is a glass top where the ring glows red under the glass, however, I will have a look on the internet to see if they do something similar
  21. Thanks Jayd, I knew it was very dangerous for other parrots, but I did not know how resilient the virus was and how long it could stay active for. I've explained this to my friend and she is now giving Diego a wide berth when visiting, which is killing her but she understands. We have decided to ask our other friend, if she will Diego sit for us, plus she only lives over the road so is nice and close for Diegos pre-holiday visits
  22. This is one of my fears as well. Diego seems to be very fond of the both of us at the moment, but I am not sure what to do if he decides to take a liking to only 1 of us more. I don't want him to love us all equally as I know that this is not a natural instinct as they choose only 1 mate in the wild. But I do wonder how I make sure that he tolerates other people, I have noticed that when we have visitors, he has been getting a little testy with some of them. I will be interested to see what people reply to you on this as it will be good to know for me also
  23. That's a fab idea, although I don't know how long they would stay up with my 2 boys. Here in Spain you can get them everywhere, the Spanish love their beaded fly curtains LOL
  24. Oh my goodness Elevenking that would drive me nuts, can you imagine it!!! This one is fantastic, it really made me laugh!
