  1. Madison sounds sooooo cute, I love it that your having conversations with him LOL. I still find it incredible that they don't only copy words but actually understand when and at what time they should be used! Great news as well that you have found out what you wanted to know about Maddison, it's also great that the lady was really friendly, she was probably really happy to hear how he was getting on
  2. Haha, my youngest son is pretty much the same when he eats, makes a lot of noise and has most of his dinner on his face and T-shirt. I will have to get a photo of the pair of them just after a meal LOL
  3. I love training Diego, and he really does not see it as training but playing with his mummy. I only spend 10 minutes at a time doing the training so that he does not get bored with the repetitiveness, then finish it off playing with one of his favourite toys. We both look forward to our training sessions, and when Diego sees the stick coming out, he gets really excited in his eyes, it's treat and quality time with mummy time! I think training can be thought of as very regimented as most humans when they think of training, remember long boring hours in a meeting room or school. As long as training a parrot is based only on FUN, FUN, FUN I think it is a great way of bonding and enjoying our feathered friends
  4. I went to bed last night with your story on my mind and praying for you both, this morning the first thing I had to do was check to see if there was an update. To see your post that you had him, made my heart skip a beat! I've not spoken to you before on this forum but I have to say Issac is a very lucky birdy having such a loving and dedicated daddy as you! You did everything and much more to get your baby back and it worked, way to go you!
  5. Thanks Jayd, I'm learning so much from you I hope you don't get bored of me picking your brains LOL. I really am so grateful for all of the help and advice you are giving me and very thankful for stumbling upon this form
  6. I think the laws are so different in all the different countries and it's great that your checking everything out Sounds like there is a love story blossoming here! How cute your both sweet talking each other
  7. lol, my husband would not call it devoted but verging on obsessed I think. It's a bit addictive I think owning a parrot???
  8. Thanks for the list Jayd, the beans were all cooked well and nice and soft. He loves garbanzos which is great as I am always soaking and cooking them here. Am I right in thinking that anything that is pretty sweet should be limited and that is why corn should also be kept to a minimum? Today, Diego had his morning smash for breakfast, this afternoon lettuce, shredded carrot and green peppers, then for dinner a mash made of zucchini, tomato and garbanzos. Although he ate much less of his dinner then previous evenings but I have noticed his food intake during the afternoon so am happy that he is starting to fill himself up rather than depending on his smashes lol. Interesting about keeping the shell on the egg, is this for the calcium?
  9. I've been searching everywhere on the internet and not been able to find anything about 2 female Amazons together. Lots of info about breeding pairs and also about 2 males but, nothing coming up about 2 females. If I find anything i'll post it up
  10. Good thinking with the vet, they should have information on the procedures needed. Good luck
  11. Going by the sad face emote your not pleased. Were they to breed from in the future? Look on the bright side, female amazons are supposed to be more cuddly and slightly less hormonal. Plus male or female both of your new babies are both beautiful and I am sure will give you just as much joy as if they were a couple. Did you name them? We were told that Diego is a male, but to be honest I'm not sure how the breeder decided this as he had not done a DNA test. We're talking about getting the DNA test done so Diego may have to be changed to Diega lol.
  12. Hi pfcarquejo, I think you were thinking this was me Here in Spain the breeder must register every bird he rears with a avian vet, this then allows them to have the closed ring attached to them. When you buy a new parrot, the breeder then transfers all of the parrots information to the new owner. This helps if a parrot is caught that may have escaped, and is proof of identification as unfortunately here in Spain it is common to have parrots stolen. All of the birds background is also recorded i.e, a change of owner, age of the bird and original breeder.
  13. I have been target training Diego who seems to have picked it up really well. I had watched many videos saying when they are used to the stick to move onto the finger. I did this but only for a couple of sessions as I was finding that Diego kept on making a dart for my finger, thinking that he was going to get a treat for chomping on my finger. I've reverted back to only using the stick and he has now stopped with the finger grabbing. This may just be something that did not work for Diego, but may work ok for others. You can always give it ago and if it does not seem to work for you, change back to the stick.
  14. Jayd has been fantastic helping me solve Diego's not eating, he's doing so well now following their advice and Diego is a different bird now that he has a full tummy This forum is fantastic for the advice and help given, so you've come to the right place
  15. In this video he was having butter beans, sweet corn and peas (which I researched was high in Vitamin A) For breakfast, he is having your smash recipe but with a little normal potato rather than the sweet potato. I weighed him this morning and he 490 grams, within the guidelines but at the higher end. I'm going to start, giving him less of the fruit and nut mix that I leave in his cage for him and start giving him the pellets. I have already stopped giving him berries like you suggested Jayd and am going to keep them and the seeds as his treats and a now and again food. Am I right in thinking that a pellet diet supplemented with fresh fruit and veg for evening and breakfast is the best for him? What do others normally feed their Amazons during a day?
  16. Hi everyone, I'm pretty new on this forum and have been hiding in the Amazon room. Recently Diego our baby Blue Fronted Amazon has come to join the family. He's such a joy to have around and puts a huge smile on my face every time I look at him. He's 4 months old and loves a good scratch, my children's toys and plenty of fuss! Both Diego and I love to sit down and get our teeth into a good book! Diego, giving a big yawn whilst having his favourite spot scratched. Mmmm, I think someone is enjoying that!
  17. I live in Spain but originally from England. I'll have a look around for some laboratories here, also now I can compare their prices compared the UK. Thanks for the info
  18. Hi I'm new to the forum and have been hiding in the Amazon room, thought I would have a look around the other rooms and my heart is aching for you after reading this thread. A prayer has been sent from Spain for you and your baby, to both stay strong and to be reunited again.
  19. Cute video pfcarquejo, I also have been having problems with Diego eating who I think was weaned to early. I have a question about the DNA laboratory in England, how much was it and how quickly was it done for you? The breeder of Diego said that he was a male, but after a couple of other things he said about Diego, I'm starting to not trust everything he has said. I was also thinking about getting a test done to see if he really is a boy.
  20. Just weighed Diego and he's coming in at 490 grams, so looks like I will have to keep an eye on him.
  21. After my last thread about Diego's eating habits, I thought it was best to start monitoring his weight. I've been told that with Amazon's it's best to do it weekly as their diet and weight is crucial to their overall lifespan and health. Just in case others were not aware on how much their Amazons should weigh this is the weights I have found: Double-yellow-headed Amazon - 450 to 650 grams Blue-fronted Amazon - 275 to 510 grams (avg. 400 to 430 grams) Yellow-naped Amazon - 480 to 680 grams I sourced this information from a great web page dedicated to the weight of the most commonly own parrots, for other parrot weights, visit http://prettybirds.net/Weight.htm Ok, off now to weigh Diego, will let you all know how well he's doing
  22. Hi Diego is doing fantastic! He soooooo much happier now that he has a fully tummy, he even chomped his way through his green peppers and red peppers I gave to him this afternoon. He seems so much more confident in every way and being a real sweety. Tonight he fell asleep to both myself and my husband giving him a scratch, something he let us do before but you could tell he was tolerating it rather than enjoying it. To show how much he loves his smash combos here's a video of my youngest son hand feeding him. Charlie and Diego seem to be getting on really well together and often play together with the toys. I think Diego is getting attached to Charlie as he is a very gentle child who has a lot of patient's with him. I will keep you posted with his progress
  23. Alls going well here. Diego has been going great guns with his eating, he has even been having a go at some of his seed and nut mix. I have come to a conclusion with why he may have digressed with his weaning. After watching him he is not very good at getting the seeds out of their shells or eating anything that has to be ground a little in his beak. Most of it falls onto the floor when he's having a go at eating it. My theory is although he was confident at having a go at eating normal food, he was unable to fill himself up as most of it was not eaten. This led to him being hungrier which made him frustrated that he was not skilled enough to eat his normal food. The closest way I can describe it is feeling like your starving with a tin of tomatoes in front of you but a tin opener that does not work properly. I think he was getting so frustrated with it, that he just gave up but kept with the apple and melon as this was pretty easy to eat. Now that his tummy is full by following your advice Jayd, he is now far more relaxed when eating his normal food and looking at it as more of a training exercise to get those fiddly seeds out of their shells. I suppose it's like a child that is given a tool like a pen, then will never pick it up and straight away paint a picture of a house but need to practise a lot beforehand. The change in Diego is huge in just one morning of having a full tummy. Instead of his constant baaaaaaring, he is now making cute little chattering sounds to himself. He's also not so frantic when seeing us, although with the food it has also given him a new found confidence and instead of being all friendly all of the time just to get some food is now showing us some new body language and now acting the big man lol.
  24. Great photos Jayd, hopefully after all your help with my thread at http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?190531-Can-anyone-help-me-to-understand-what-Diego-is-trying-to-say-to-me/page2 it won't be before long that Diego is sharing a KFC bucket and a good film lol.
  25. Fantastic, I will get cooking tomorrow for him and also buy some formula. I think I will make sure that my husband and I take turns in giving him the formula so he does not form an attachment to just one of us. Like I said before I can't thank you enough, I would hate to think what state he would have ended up with if I had just kept trying with the normal food. Diego sends a great big spanish besito (kiss) for understanding him from the video lol. I will keep you updated with how he is getting on
