    Milk

What about yogurts and cheeses? Everytime I have that peach yoplait yogurt, Sully gets a little peach piece... and he ATTACKS my grilled cheese sandwiches!!! Should I not give him them?

    Cleaners?

Morning I used to be able to just wipe down Sully's cage with hot water, dry it off, and be done... but as Sully is getting bigger, and his poopies are too, it's not working so well. I've been really paranoid about using any kind of cleaners on his cage because I wipe the WHOLE THING down, and I'm worried if I miss a spot and leave some cleaner, he'll get sick. What do y'all use to clean the cages? I have no problem scrubbing!
  3. Good Morning! Well, I haven't been on here in a few weeks things have been super hectic. We found out a few weeks ago that my father has prostate cancer. Many nights were spent with Sully cuddled up under my chin, catching my tears. He wouldn't leave my side... Even when I would get him out of his cage at 1 or 2 in the morning because I didn't want to be alone, he perched up on my chest and laid with me and when I would fall asleep for a minute, I would wake up with him watching me. He's simply amazing <3 Sully has grown into quite the "talker" he turned 5 months on the 14th, and I cannot believe how fast he has grown! He sits on his rope perch and mumbles and coos to himself. Then he moves into different spots in the house and talk talk talks. I swear he said "gizmo" the other day (that's the name of his favorite cat in the house)... and he has meowed quite a few times We're going to begin training tricks when I finish class in two weeks. I'm eager to see how quickly he picks up on simple things! I think I'm going to start with him touching a stick on command, then move onto more complex things. I found a really cute trick in a book that has him put his head down on the table in between his legs so it looks like hes doing a headstand.. I hope he can do it! It's adorable!!! ANYWAY- the points of my post! First- We have been giving Sully parrot "seed" along with fruits and veggies, nuts and oats, but he doesn't seem to like the seed mixture we give him. What do you all suggest? He's not picky at all about the people food he eats, but he will only eat the sunflower seeds, and the little corn pieces out of the mixture. What do I do?? Second- My hubby and I are leaving Sully (and the other animals) home overnight while we go up to Lancaster (about an hour and a half from here) for the night and a long day. We're leaving Tuesday night around 7p, and not returning til 10 or 11p the next night. This is the first time we've left Sully overnight. We have my best friend Bekah (who insists on having Sully call her "Aunt Bekah") staying here that night, but I can't help but feel guilty for leaving my babies. I know he'll be fine, but part of me feels like there is something I should do so he doesn't freak out that I'm not here. I'm home all day and his cage is in the living room...and he still sleeps with a nightlight on  ... I know I baby him. Anyway, I guess my question is.. is there something I should do for him??? Any help on any parts of my forever long post would be helpful Thanks everyone!
  4. Hey everyone! Update on Sully's bump. I called the vet and asked about it and he said that it is common for babies that are being handfed to get a zit-like bump on their face from their face not being clean thouroughly enough after being fed. He simply suggested using a warm damp washcloth to make sure I get all the food off, and to keep an eye on it, and if it did anything other than go away, to come in. Well, it's almost all gone now!! Thanks for the concern everyone! I will be taking Sully in for his first checkup soon. I'm a little hesitant to take him until he is a little older, because of fear of him getting sick from the vet's office. Is this a silly fear?
  5. Thanks I'm hoping it's just an irritation... it seems to possibly be forming a little white head on it... and it doesn't cause him any pain. Either way- off to the vet in the morning! (it's time for his checkup anyway. He's 17 weeks old on Wednesday- and is almost completely weaned! He wouldn't even take formula this evening... just wanted his apples and seed my baby is growing up
  6. Afternoon everyone. I was playing with Sully a few minutes ago, and I noticed a red bump on his face. When i touched it, it seemed like it has a ball underneath it. It's very small, and almost impossible to see. It's right under his right eye. It almost looks like a pimple. Do greys get pimples around their eyes? I know that there are little feathers there, so I was just wondering if that happens? It's also possible that he bumped his face on something, but it doesn't look like that kind of bump. I'm super concerned, and I will be making a vet appointment in the morning... just wondering what you guys think. I uploaded a picture, but you can barely see it because of the flash.
  7. Both lovebirds, my sun and my grey are clipped. My Nanday isn't because he simply doesn't know how to fly... we believe his wings were clipped before he learned to fly as a baby. He kind of flaps, but it's like, flap left wing, flap right wing, flap left wing, flap right wing :\ I've done the research on both sides, and this is just what works for us
  8. He's getting tons of veggies, he likes broccoli the best so far! Thanks for the reassurance!!
  9. Thanks, Dave! So, which one would you suggest?
  10. Hey everyone! I am looking into buying Sully a harness. With so many styles to choose from, I wanted opinions on what works best, and most importantly, doesn't work at all when it comes to harnesses. To tell you the truth, I don't even want to put him in one, but I've been reading through some of these posts where most of you are strongly encouraging it, and I think for his safety, I should atleast try it out. I don't want him getting 'blown away'.. he is clipped, 5 feathers on each side, and doesn't really fly at all, more of a flapping fall. Suggestions please? Also, if you can let me know how your baby reacted to it, I don' t think Sullivan is going to be very happy about having one on him.
  11. I get mine from Ebay, brand new. Depending on the size you need, they start at $3.99 for them. I just search for "stainless steel coup cups" Good luck!
  12. Welcome Every bird is different. I have a lovebird that acts like the sweetest thing to me, and bites my husband. I have another lovie who loves my husband but will only come around me when I sitting on the floor. I have a sun conure that worships the ground I walk on, but will not come near me for the rest of the day if I don't say hello to her before I pick up another one of the birds. I have a nanday conure who was a terror til I gave him a piece of chicken and he's amazingly sweet now. Then I have my grey who doesn't care who's holding him or what's going on, as long as he's played with... all birds have their own thing going on. Try not to compare your friends conure to your new baby, because the odds that your bird will do each of those things is small. However, your bird will have it's specific, and probably quirky, needs... You have to figure them out, and go with the flow. Come up with a game plan that works for them- and your bird should be happy : ) The first thing my husband and I decided was that we were going to devote our lives to our babies. If that meant we would have to take short day trips instead of long vacations, that's what would have to happen... If it meant that we would sacrafice buying new furniture to buy a new cage or playstand, that's it. Just like your children, you sacrafice for your feathered babies, because you want them to have EVERYTHING... it's good that you're double thinking because that means you don't have the mindset of "oh, my bird will be perfect".. because no bird is BUT- they are worth every tempertantrum, every "lost" vacation, and every piece of corn kernel you step on in the middle of the night The love you get from a bird is like no other. **On a conure note-- conures, in my mind, have the most attitude of most birds. My two have their days where they don't want to do ANYTHING, and then days where they just want to cuddle... so try not to tie your new bird too much to your friends conure : ) **Also, when it comes to vacations- I think you'll find yourself missing your baby more than you think you will. About 6 months ago, before we got our grey, My husband and I went on a 3 day vacation about 4 hours away, and left my babies with my parents who also have birds. Even though I new they were content and happy (I knew this because I called every 3 hours to check on them) I missed them so much, we left a night early just to get home to them! Hope some of this relieves your anxieties. Just be willing to go with the flow, and you'll do fine! <3
  13. I cannot believe we have already had Sully for 4 weeks! He's been VERY VERY vocal today, letting out all kinds of new sounds and noises. He's also taken an interest in his toys... it's amazing how he's changed in just the past few days! Is it "normal" for him to be making these new noises? He's loud- of course no where near the volume of my conures, and it's soooo cute- but I just want to make sure he's okay! He's down to one handfeeding, at night, with two or three warm baby food "snacks" (currently, squash and corn) during the day. and he's eating a TON! I have to replace his seed and fruit twice a day.. he eats constantly! I guess I'm looking for a "He's right on schedule" type answer! He seems intrigued by his own voice
  14. That's great! Congratulations on bringing him home. It's amazing how they automatically capture your heart, isn't it? I fell in love with Sully before I even got him out of his carrier! The next few weeks will be so much fun! We will have had Sully for four weeks on Sunday- time FLIES!!!! <3
  15. Lol, Honestly, I have NO clue. I moved to baltimore a loooong time ago from lockhart, so I don't know much about the georgetown area. I believe she lives on county roaddd...... 250 something? Hmmm.. must find the address book. Lmao.
  16. Oh- and also, I was thinking maybe using this just in the mornings, so he can see that this is the "target" atleast for that first big, monsterous, scary, huge, giant, extra large poop of the day
  17. Thanks Jayd! He ended up going over the trashcan about 8 times yesterday.. but he seems freaked out by the trashcan... so, I'm going to buy a small office-type trashcan to use, and maybe he won't be so panicked? The one we were using was our kitchen trashcan, and it's big and aluminum... perhaps a little intimidating :\
  18. I also went on CABIRDNERDS and FELL IN LOVE! I spent about $150 and got SOOO MUCH stuff. Thanks for the idea Although, my husband is a little shell shocked Haha
  19. Awesome! Yeah, I get all loud and high-pitched... my husband thinks I'm a little nuts. Update- he's gone in the trash can SIX times so far today!!! WOOHOO
  20. Haha Birdnut.. Joe doesn't go for earrings or anything really. He's a little odd when it comes to being a bird... he doesn't go for anything shiney, he chases the cats around, and he only likes to take ice cold baths or showers. He's strange really. Zoe will mouth our earrings, but won't try to take them. Now, Sully however, he will take any chance he can get at my rings or earrings. I have four in each ear, so he's being trained not to be able to get on shoulders... near earrings Lol. And thanks for the welcome! I see you live in Georgetown, my sister lives there!
  21. WOWWW!!! I thought I was the only one who gets a little carried away when it comes to buying fun stuff for the flock! WHAT FUN!!!
  22. That's wonderful! I hope he adjusts well. Be patient with him! As the mommy of a 7 time rehomed (yes, 7!) Nanday conure, it is a totally different experience. When we brought Joe home, he had no faith left in the human race. It takes a lot of time and effort, but it's worth the love they provide in the end
  23. Thanks Judy My sun is getting there. She's really coming into her colors as of the past molt. She's really beautiful. Part of me doesn't want her to grow up I want my little green baby back!
  24. Mornin' (or afternoon or evening) everyone! Well, we decided to start Potty Training Sully today. We've succeeded before in potty training our Sun Conure, but I'm a little nervous about Sully. He actually went in the trashcan for the first time this morning! It only took about two minutes for him to go. I'm sure this is luck, but HEY! I'll TAKE IT! I rewarded him with hugs and kisses, and a piece of cap'n crunch (I ordered some yogurt drops) Am I on the right track here? I plan on taking him every 10 minutes or so. Luckily, I have some training in the potty training department from when I worked at a daycare and as a nanny... but I don't know if I'm in over my head here. Anyone have any tips? Have many of you actually done this before?? I'll update later!
