2. That is great. I started Issac on the Aviator early, I found that the first time was very easy to get it on. But subsequent times were slightly more difficult. I did find that once he had it on, he was plenty fine with it and more curious to where we were going. I hope Yoshi enjoys the trips outside.
3. Yes, you will totally need to revive me if Issac should say his first word. LOL. I really can't tell you how wonderful it is to have him around. Even if he does want to jump on my keyboard while I type sometimes. Having a parrot as a companion is far more rewarding than I ever imagined. Sometimes I hear something from him when other noises are going or when he thinks no one is listening and I wonder what it was. I am sure many are familiar with this.

Post edited by: Elvenking, at: 2010/03/11 19:37
4. So just between today and yesterday...I hear this new sound from Issac. I love it! It is so sweet sounding...especially when he is on my shoulder and close to my ear. He does this little.."WhoopWhoopWhoo" thing and I just think it's the cutest. no idea what inspired him...I do do this water drop sound to him occasionally..maybe he is imitating that. i don;t know...but I love to hear new sounds. I love him!
5. I will try to keep splashing Issac. One way or another...he's gonna stay clean. Most convenient is the shower. I always let him perch there and watch me having a good time 'cleaning up'. Today he wasn't flying down, just watching. Still yet to get him fully soaked, but yesterday he was pretty darned wet and got very close to the main down pour of the shower head. Tried to drink from it too.
6. Ohh gawwwd the babies are sooooo cute! It is shocking how quickly they get to full size. As others have said...it's a fun time.
7. That is awesome, they suprise you just when you think you know your bird. I keep thinking I have seen all the changes I will see for a while with Issac, but he always does something new. These birds are awesome.
8. Here is a picture of Issac playing on his Atom for those interested.

Post edited by: Elvenking, at: 2010/03/10 18:57
9. Oh my gosh, I almost forgot. He hopped onto my hand to come in the shower this morning. I am not sure if he knew what he was in for...but once he came there...I got his little butt wet, more wet than ever before. He made a few coos of protest, but he didn't freak out. I will keep trying the shower out with him. This is one of his final trials of his childhood. Well...that and weaning 100%.
10. Thanks for the kind words. He certainly has captured my heart like nothing else. He is enjoying his Atom quite a bit. I hung it up last night, luckily not killing myself in the process. I will post some pictures of him playing on it tomorrow. I still remain the most popular landing site of all. He is preening on my shoulder as I type. Lil rascal.
11. Issac is still growing. No major new developments. He is weaning away from his formula a little bit more so this last week. Taking on only about 10-15 in a feeding before he makes his little noise to say 'no more' it is funny. I actually recognize this small difference in his 'more' and 'no more' sound. Too cute. His Atom came Saturday and I am going to hang it tonight once I get a cable for it. He saw it sitting on the ground and already wanted to crawl on it. He's gonna love it once it's hanging and has something in the middle. Issac loves people. They are his greatest curiosity. Another friend came over, and as seen in the cases with all my other visitors. He wants to fly to their shoulder to get a closer look. I worry about this because not all people I plan to meet or introduce will like this. He is totally shoulder friendly once he is there....very well behaved. But it can be intimidating to someone when this very large grey fan of air is approaching. LOL. I personally love it! Going to try to introduce some more new foods in order to help Issac to continue to expand his tastes. Maybe some oatmeal or a veggie kabob as some has suggested. He is still looking like a very healthy and happy bird. I love the lil guy.
12. My cage is grey. It's a grey thing, you know? As others have mentioned, you can't just paint a cage. They are specially done at the factory. Most paints that would work are toxic and could make your bird very sick.
13. Yeah...I hear that Robin...it is way easier when they are in a group. But I am still banking Girl.
14. Lol...I got the babble ball I am thinking about ways I can make him forage...he loves foods that make him work. And yes...this bird is loved as much as a bird can be loved...I ahve no doubt about that.
15. I am now convinced it is way harder for us to leave our birds...than it is for them to be without us for a bit.
16. Given all the other options...I would just feel safer not doing this. I have seen people feed their birds some strange things...I have also seen birds get sick. Connection...who knows. I will stick to the tried and true. Milage may vary...some may have had luck with this for years..I know not. Something just does not sound right with this though.

Post edited by: Elvenking, at: 2010/03/06 05:46
17. Goerge....put newspaper over bath towels on the bottom of the cage. I do this every day for my grey and it is also super easy to clean up....wad up the newspaper and replace. I do that 3 times a day. I am a nut though...you should get away with 2 times. but the towel at the bottom is good. In addition...who ever clipped him should have left him with some flight. Don;t take your grey to just any quack who has a happy clipping hand. That is why I avoid clipping altogether...sure I have to be more on top of the safety of my bird...but no one loves my bird more than me. Please take care of your little bird, he needs you a lot. Certainly let him out. I hope you are up for the task of being a bird father. Watch him...make sure he is safe. Please.
18. Cage covering sets bedtime regardless of your bedtime. They feel secure when ther are no distractions and and its sets a routine. When i cover Issac, I hear one of two things..beak nashing (signal of getting cozy) or eating followed by beak nashing. It works wonders. At first I left him uncovered...but he kept lookin at me..and wondering what I am doing. It sets up a report when they see the sheets going over...they know what time it is. You definitely should cover your grey unless you have lights out the same time as your bird. Then maybe...but I recommend it highly.

Post edited by: Elvenking, at: 2010/03/06 05:04
19. Can you post a profile picture of you lil grey's head?
20. When i look at Pepper, I do see the trademark smaller beak and narrower head. I am banking female. While at the breeders, I was 100% on guessing the sex of all of her greys greater than 7 weeks old. The babies can be harder.
21. Yeah...I am getting over it more quickly now. I do love to get him out when I get home too..let him crawl up my arm to my shoulder so I can feel him by my neck. Hello boy I'm home. Birds Rock!
22. Speechless...totally speechless. The image I got when I read this story, takes my breath away. Putting the harness on and then leaving him in his cage. I mean...there is really nothing more to say. That is just not thinking, plain and simple. Complacency to the point of putting the bird in harms way. The saddest thing I find about people who own or want to own birds, is how underestimated their intelligence and necessary care is. This is a pet that more often than not, falls into the hands of someone insensative and\or incapable of putting themselvs in the mind of a pet. I am so glad that I am in charge of Issac, I know that I have one bird that is going to be so loved, and I will actually more often than not, put myself in his shoes more than neccessary. The only saving grace is that she has to now live with herself. I want to choke the owner. That makes me pretty angry. What a human doorstop. No sympathy for idiots.

Post edited by: Elvenking, at: 2010/03/05 20:24
