Okay, so i mentioned in another thread that when I brought my daughter over to my place on Sunday, Issac got all puffed up at first but soon was okay with her being there after a few minutes. Seemed to turn out okay. A girl friend of mine came over last night for a visit and he puffed all up again. She came to give me a hug and he flipped! Came up and tried to bite my face off...lol. There was a notable difference in his attitude during her whole visit too. Getting into lots of trouble and such. He was just a bit different it seemed. Maybe I really don't have people over a lot...it has been a while since. So maybe I am not socializing him enough? I really am not sure what I can do about that. I just don't have tons of company over and I live alone. I really hope he lets me get him out on his harness, otherwise I might be in danger of having the 'one person bird'. I am all ears on thoughts regarding this. Thanks.

LMAO...oohhh...wait...I am sorry...but...omg...lmao!

Thank you for the tip. Yes, I would love for them to turn ripe. Issac will probably love them even more.

That is such a nice story. Birds are so much more than what they initially seem. It's wonderful.
-
Ohh my gosh the babies are so cute. I love the Rainbow macaw babies...too cute.
-
Thank you for all the responses, I will leave them out until ripe. I will also limit these treats.

As a matter of fact, this is the very reason Issac was chosen. He trusted me right when I came to visit the breeder for the first time. Unlike the other babies, he chose to nestle in the crook of my arm while I was sitting on the couch with some baby greys. He chose to stay there a while too...so I sat with him for a good hour, occasionally petting his sweet little head while he looked up at me curiously. It actually chokes me up a little to remember this. OMG how I am lost in this bird. LOL.

LOL...I know exactly what you mean. When Issac first arrived, I was loving every little thing he did. I still do take the time to enjoy the little nuances. Here are just a few: The way his tongue sounds when he is drinking The 'whoop whoop' sound Hanging upsidedown The feel of his feathers against my neck Head scratches The soft little feathers on his legs His tummy The red tail shakes ...okay...I am not quite sure this list will end so I will stop there

At the current time, Issac is getting pretty good about knowing not to poop on me. The rest of the house...not so lucky yet...but he is learning. It's more for the little climbing he does....sometimes he will slip and hook his beak into the material and inadvertantly create a hole...especially if the shirt is thin. So I ahve to wear something thicker...and no zippers...they are just too tempting for him. I usually just wear a flannel shirt around the house. I don't dare chance a nicer shirt until I am out of the house.

They are queen palm nuts. And if I had to guess, I would be worried that they will not be getting ripe...as they are quite green. Unless it takes a few days. If so...how many on average? I know nothing of them. But right now they are quite green. I worry about them drying out. If you have any queen palm nut care tips...please share. Thanks.

Issac does this mainly when I have to leave in the house and he has just been placed back in his cage. It is his way of pulling at my heart strings (whether he knows it or not) and telling me not to go...ohh...and to please let him back out. It gets me every time....but i cannot cave in...I have to go. He will also do it sometimes at the bottom of the couch as well. I think he sees something he wants under there. I always say, "You digging to China boy?"

Okay cool...I only gave him a couple today after giving him 3 yesterday. OMG...you should hear him right now..he is making so many vocalizations I ahve never heard before...I love it!! Not that it has anything to do with palm nuts...but you should hear my ears. He is working on his talking...zero doubt about that.
-
This absolutely kills me to hear...I cannot help but feel for your loss. Can you say what happened leading up to this? This being your first post makes me super sad. I hope you are okay.

We did have a discussion this afternoon and we came to an agreement majority that green nuts are still okay. I just do not know if they will change color on my counter or if I should refrigerate\freeze them babys and when. I am wathing them so they don't dry out...but I am curious. Issac loves these little things. I am also wondering how many are okay on average. So if anyone has an idea...do tell. Thanks.

Where's my Red Bum Bum and more. (Emma)

I see Issac do the same thing, and i sometimes catch him paying attention when I do not realise it. When he gets chatty, I can hear his sounds evolving, and I hear what would possibly be words if he had full control of his little voice. Sometimes sounds like a language you can't understand, but with inflection. -

She talks so clear and sounds just like you. Too cute. -
Oh my gosh, Issac loves to do that thing when you have both hands full. I will be preparing food for him even, and he simply cannot wait until I am done before he is picking the cap up to the palm oil, or picking at the bag of whatever while I am transferring something to a plate. He is masterful in his agility and it is one of those trying moments. LOL. Funny to laugh at when it's not happening though.

Very Important Info to know re. Aspergillosis
Elvenking replied to lovethatgrey's topic in Health Room
I mainly feed Issac veggies and other cooked goodies. He picks through his seed mix and I usually take the larger peanuts in teh shell out because bugs can get in them and such rendering a pretty nasty peanut. But given all the precautions in that article, how do these guys make it in the wild? I have seen videos of them forraging in the mud where I know other animals deficate. This kind of makes me feel that I am not doing to bad by giving him an unsalted cashew or almond. -
Okay...so here are a few questions I cannot seem to get concensus on: 1.) When is it okay to give your Grey a Queen Palm Nut? (Green, ripe, etc.) 2.) They arrived green, what do I do. Will they ripen? Do I have to refrigerate or freeze, if so when? I have never had palm nuts so I am not sure of all this. Someone even said green ones can be toxic but I was also told that feeding them green is fine. Would love help dispelling all this.

To tell the truth, I was marveling at the reflection myself. That was a very lucky shot to catch him like that so well. No prior shine other than the wipe down I give after cleaning up from feeding my baby. The note in the box said feed them to our birds either ripe or green. so i thought it was okay. However if you say that it's not good...I can wait a little longer...will these guys actually change color off the tree? I have one site telling me to refrigerate them green, freeze when ripe, okay to feed when green or ripe, not okay to feed when green. Who to believe? What is true....heeeeehhhhlllp. LOL.

I hope its fine that he can only get at the husk...I couldn't crack the nut with a pair of pliers...gonna have to slam on those bad boys to open them. But it's instant peace for a little while.

We love Queen Palm Nuts....whoooo hooo. He is still up on my counter stripping a couple of them now. Fun fun fun.

So my little guy is going on his 23rd week. Adoreable as ever. I haven't noticed any new behaviors in a while though. My 7-year-old daughter did come over on Sunday to swim at my apartment complex, and when she came in, Issac raised all of his feathers and started growling like a tiger. After I calmed him down and let him see that she was welcome, he let her get close and pet him and such. After that, he was curious and wanted to find a place to land on her, but she is scared when he is hovering over her and she runs away. At least he warmed up to her quickly though. My Queen Palm Nuts came in the mail today and I will soak em for a few minutes and try to give him one later, crossing fingers. One night Issac sat sweetly on top of my computer monitor and let me work at the computer without trying to attack the keyboard, which was nice....but I am betting it was just a one-off experience. He was after the enter key Sunday night with a vengance. He is still taking his formula, some days more than others but he still looks forward to it. Loves his pasta with red palm oil and birdie bread as well as veggies straight up. I continue to love the serenading I get when I take a shower. I actually hear something that sounds like "Hello" sometimes. It's like a coo but in the form of 'hello'. He is trying hard it seems. He also seems to be babbling something else but I cannot make it out. It's still early though so I still find it amazing that he is trying. What a sweetheart. Here is a cute little story, I was out late one night as I didn't want to drive home after a party I to. So I didn't come home till about 5AM the next morning. So Issac was uncovered during the night. When I came home I went to his cage like I always to do hold him and say hi. We was so sweet the way he let me snuggle him and kiss him on the back. I could tell he was happy I was home. Then he pleasently went back into his cage and I covered him for the remainder of the morning until our normal rise time. Nothing special really, but it is so nice to come home to a little critter that really wants you to be there with him. I love my Issac.

Issac doesn't just sit and chew on me or my clothes just to chew. It's that when climbing around on me occasionally, he enjoys hanging upsidedown on my arm from my sleeve like a bat-bird. Then he can inadvertantly put a hole in a thin shirt while climbing his way back up. He does occasionally get facinated with the metal buttons on my jeans...but I don't mind that. I will have to try and teach him that it is not accepted though, as I am likely more tollerant than any guests I might have in the future.

Trust me....I work in the twilight zone.
