Abby has a broken flight feather ... not quite sure how it happened cause she has gotten very well at flying around the apt. better at landing on things too, but any how she still has one. I am sure they break hear and there but my question is should I help her with getting it off ... can it fix its self and "re-straighten"? It is pretty high up close to her follicle. I have some pics taken ... she grabs it with her foot when shes on her play stand and then it looks like she is chewing on the top of it to break it off .... she still can fly but Im sure is bothersome. What ever should I do?

Thanks and here is what I like most ... you can add more perch bars and make it as tall as you like and plus if you don't glue it together and just press it together firmly they swivel and your can make it diffrent every time your bird gets on it .... and to make that one better even if you do glue it into position the perch bars (the horizontal ones) screw into the vertical poll and lastly in the middle of the stand where it goes from metal to PVC i am going to take the other peice of wood and drill a bigger whole in the middle of it and use a jam nut to hold it up so the poop stays off of the lower base so my dog cant get it ill take some more detailed photos of it taken appart when I do that so people can see how simple it really is and cheep too.

Abby bathes in hew bowel but from what I have read and from watching her bathe in her cage she doesn't get nearly clean enough complete saturation of certain parts of the body is best so I take her in the shower. I have left her on the floor of the shower while the shower is on and I have left her in the bottom of the tub with a little bit of water and some tubing for her to stand firmly on ... she seems to like me bathing her myself best holding her on my hand and taking her in and out of the falling water from the shower head.

I was told at least 8 hours and that was ok ... should u be letting Abby sleep longer .... I mean she does get peace and quiet while im at work. She could nap then I guess.

The bird stand I made very similar I can take it apart if some one wants to see all the pieces its very simple to make and costs about 40$ to 50$ but once that bulk cost is paid you can add as many arms as you want for under a dollar a piece and the rope is about 60 cents a foot and the wire to shape it around was about 100 feet for around ten bucks .... and all of that was included in the first 40 to 50 dollars so 15 more feet of rope would be around 7.50$ let me know if some one wants me to take the time to show you how its assembled.

Post edited by: AbbysDaddy, at: 2009/12/31 01:26

Well my bird is now talking in-front of me and Im ecstatic. I love it and got so excited when she said hello while I was playing my video game. I got up and ran to the fridge to get her a treat and praise her as much as I could but got no more words out of her. All I had to give at the time was Millet any other ideas on what to give her aside from praise and treats. I know all CAGS are different but I want her to be a talking fool and I know I should be lucky considering all she has been threw before I got her and I have only had her in my Apt. for about 2 weeks. What have some people in here done to their older birds to show that we like them talking?

The camera was fixed on a tripod and I would never try and handel her and the camera in the same shower lol

The BEST play stand for my bird
AbbysDaddy replied to AbbysDaddy's topic in Homemade Toys & Playstands
Ya he just did not expect her to do that lol it was more him blinking when the pic was taken but he does look humiliated in that pic doesn't he lol. -
Worked out OK. The video didn't come out that well so I will try for a better one here soon and re post it on this thread. Although I did put together some PVC pipe that would lay steady for her to stand on she did like that a lot more

Just thought this was soo cute Wally my dog wanted to see Abby so bad so I made him sit and tired to put Abby on her back thinking she would fly away to her cage like every other time you try to put her on anything but her stand or cage ..... but well this happened!!! I was amazed for my dogs patience and my birds audacity LOL!!! Post edited by: AbbysDaddy, at: 2009/12/30 04:40

Post edited by: AbbysDaddy, at: 2009/12/30 04:41

Im sure my house stays plenty warm enough at 75-80 degrees but what is the absolute coolest temperature I should keep my eyes on say maybe the power goes out while I am sleeping or something like that. I know she is covered with a thick heavy blanket when Abby sleeps but I just wonder what is a comfortable house temperature for them since 104* is their body temp aprox.

I am going to try and figure out how to video tape my baby Abby and how I bath her, or at least tempt to bath her lol I have let her get used to me taking a shower and let her observe me every day so not every trip into the bath room is a bad experience. Any tips are welcome.

Abby destroys her bells too ... I think just about every Grey does but its worth it they are cheep as hell right now just got buy some clearance Xmas bells you should be a bell to find packs of 6 or 8 something like that at Wal-Mart for a dollar at that price she can destroy them all day long lol.!!!!! I placed two of them under her swing she gets on to sleep at night but they are just too far out of reach to get to from any where in her cage except for from on the swing. At first she thought it was too wobbly and didn't want any thing to do with it now she is stretching as far as she can and climbing all over her cage to be able to get to them and take the ringer out lol.

The video is taking way too long to upload Ill try it later on today.

Extremely smart birds I'm sure he will hang around as long as he can.

Well I am in agreement with you I believe too. She will most likely be keeping her flight skills for a while longer. She is excited for me to come to her cage she lifts her foot so fast and you can tell she is excited to see me. She is progressing nicely with me for what I want except for the talking. My wife has about half an hour of video of Abby talking, she is saying her name, come one, and hello. I think she is trying to say good night and good morning ... maybe shes just trying to figure out the word good its hard to tell from the video.Any who I have heard her say multiple words just not in front of me lol and here is the kicker part she wont come out of the cage for my wife just me and wont let any one else pet her and cuddle her just me lol but she wont talk for me oh well it will come with time ... I know shes not a baby any more being 8 and I dont have any kids but it feels like I missed her first words lol!!!! I dont know if any one on here would want to watch threw a 5 min video of her when she only says about 3 or 4 words but if any one is i might post it up later on tonight.

Flying is great and I love that she can but she only does it when she is startled never from her perch to her cage and when she is in the bathroom she insists on taking off from the shower rod when I am done and then flying to my lights I have in my bath room which are HOT ... and she LANDS on them lol .... of course by this time I am flying out of the tub trying to catch her out of mid flight so when she lands on them she wont burn her feet ..... but that is really the only time I am scared for her. I will think about it more oh and how long does it take for the birds wings to grow back if they are cut to the proper length.? Keep in mind she is 8 and she never has used flight for fun or to get around the house. Although I see what some people mean about it being compaired to loosing your legs ... this is why I wanted some peoples opinions on this .... these birds are too smart to do something blindly with out asking others advice!!!!
