  1. Having an Avian certified Veterinarian examine your bird take a fecal sample and some basic blood work to get an idea of your pets base line of good health and avoid any hidden health challenges. In other words not waiting until you have a sick or injured bird.
  2. Tell us the back story on getting your new Grey friend.
  3. You can also cover the cage top with some cardboard so no toes get nipped.
  4. For safety I suggest using 1/4" by 1/4" as an outside layer of protection. We recently had a Coopers Hawk strike one of the Macaws while she was inside her enclosure and under a roof with a 3' overhang. Emergency Vet visit and she will be fine lots of blood and a very shocky bird I was so afraid we would loose her. Wire the bottom as well so no dig outs or in. Racoons and other stray animals can grab through the size wire you are using so keep that in mind, safety first!

  8. Thank you for the update, stressful when we don't know how they are doing. Yay for gracie!
  9. Fun idea just make certain it is a safe environment, no bug spray or other toxic inhalants.
  10. I know some among us use PVC but I choose not to.
  11. What a wonderful resolution! Big hugs for helping out. Isn't it amazing that we find birds who are kept in these difficult conditions who are not plucked or overly neurotic, so much more to learn. Good feelings all around for the rescue and what a great new home!
  12. I leave the chamomille tea as the water for the day when our Too gets too wound up you can also find the dried form to grind up and add to birdy bread.
  13. Crushing loss my heart goes out to you.
  14. Lovely flowers-"Pride of Barbados" and Ray I know Cricket was reaching out to you.
  15. I will use a George Takei quote "Oh my".
  16. It sounds like you have remedied all that might be causative other than hormonal fluctuations. I would think that the lack of bathing and the Sunlight were the most important factors especially during a molt causing those itchy new feather pins to come in. Here I live with one Mutilator and 2 nervous pluckers and a pair of greys that are growing in some of their lost feather coats while staying with us. They were badly plucked and are showing some improvement with daily aloe juice sprays, a fresher food diet and more Sunlight. Our mutilator has never stopped but has more feathers and as long as he is in his jacket and collar he does great. The nervous pluckers are off and on Smokey Joe pulls neck feathers when he is stressed and Pookie asks for attention but too much can make her pulls some small pieces of downy feather again neck area. She came to us as a 21 yrs old bird with a bare belly, chest neck and legs now she has regained most of her belly and chest. One side is still kind of bare and her legs are now feathered as is the back of her neck the leading edge of the underside of her wings are still very thin. Just so you know I also live with some fully feathered birds but I seem to end up with other folks bare ones.
  17. You can see the powdery look to their feathers.
  18. A pair of Congo Greys that I am fostering here at the house had a fun conversation with my son on his way out the door this morning. The bird involved is a plucked fellow named Nicky who may have another identity. Nicky: Be good bird Nicky Colin: yes, be good bird Nicky Nicky: I'm not Nicky!
  19. She is the ultimate observer of human behavior.
  20. It might be smart to get him involved in a tug of war with an old sock or something else physical to reroute that rough behavior.
