Just glowing red, aren't you the lucky one.

A little Rain Forest Rainbow in feathers, thanks.

Thank you all for the humor what a blessing to begin my work week with a chuckle!

Having a bird in your life does give you new challenges and new fields of study to encompass that you may have never considered before. Safety issues like bird proofing your home, what is safe to eat and safe to play with. I think you are all good on this one and learned a one more thing to avoid in order to keep that Grey safe. Good work and it seems good fortune, so glad it has all turned out well.

Love your family it sounds so much like our own. Kids turn into wonderful humans when they learn respect, compassion and caring for animals of any kind. I think birds teach us all so much about reading body language and creative solutions to daily challenges. Yay for Ozzy having such a great change in his home life, I know he will thrive with you and am certain that he does not consider himself impaired.

Love the Jardine photo they are a unique little Parrot. I like Danmcq's idea of makeing room dedicated to the birds I have a friend in New Mexico who has done just that. -
It is kind of like a honeymoon time when she is getting to know you and your home. The usual Grey reactions will start showing more as she feels more at home. She will test both you and any boundaries you set for her in the months to come. She is an expert in reading human body language and now you get to learn hers. Always give them room to make some decisions and step away if she is not ready to step up, come back later sweet talk her and try again. The best way to avoid a bite is to not reinforce getting one so if she is excited or aggressive avoid handling her and she will reward your respect for her wishes with respect for you.

You can cook some grains until they are soft and add that to the cooked mashed sweet potato and maybe add some powdered Ginger or Cinnamon they seem to enjoy the flavors. Look forward to hearing how he heals. These little guys are Kllutses I do not know how they survive in the wild.

Nice to have more information to work with as I don't remember reading about his abilities to take the cage apart. That is a very common behavior in Cocka toos not often that a Grey takes up engineering. The Nylocks nuts do help and this bird is expanding your creativity. My U2 is guilty of the same thing and my husband had an escalating competition trying to keep Harry Too inside the cage as well. We ended up after many losses to the Too with an eye bolt outside the feed doors that we slid a stainless steel rod through. This rod is threaded with one end capped off and the other end has a big washer and a wing nut. We undo the wing nut and washer then the rod just falls loose at that end and we can change both water and food. ou may have to sell that cage and replace it with one that is more solid to out smart your Grey dismanteler.

That calls for the Talon in the ear procedure.

My Grey is upside down more than your Grey (bat bird). Please do get that on vid for us Jilly.

Did the laughter hurt her feelings or just distract her?

He wanted to shred it and test that new Vacuum.

We are all concerned more about the bird and the breeder who would sell/give a birds still pink and bald and blind to some one to raise. You, we will do our best to help because that is what is best for the bird. Please do let us know how this baby is doing-we care very much and that passion is what may have made you uncomfortable.

To top it off the Sanctuary has a pair of Panama Amazons and they are adorable, another soft spoken Zon species. Here is a link to some photos they are in here with some of the rest. http://artcatdesigns.deviantart.com/gallery/#GulfCoast-ExoticBirdSanctuary

Question-do you really want to give her up I hear a great deal of doubt in your words? Are you looking for some help in guiding her back on track with behaviors? Do you have any friends that have Parrots she might enjoy visiting during the time you work on occasion? You do not sound like a horrid Parront you sound like some one who cares enough to face some difficult decisions to improve both of your lives. Look forward to hearing more from you and more of us will respond as they find your post. -
They can fly and are the size of Gnats I don't think they should make over the pond. Found out this morning that they are as far North as Illinois, so they are on the move. Scary stuff.

A sunburned Grey, that is unique. Working at the Sanctuary has showed me how important sunlight is to all species. Getting to see them change over the time they spend outside compared to how they looked upon arrival is amazing.

28-29 days What species is a Golden Eye?

Kind of a relaxing stress buster for them.

The best advice is to allow her time to settle in. Keep talking to her but try not to handle too often yet, go slowly as she is still getting to know you and her new home. Since she is fully flighted keep an eye on her safety-you may need to reasses your home and bird proof a bit. Hide electric cords and remove items she may knock over or chew on. Ceiling fans can be turned off when she is out of cage to prevent injury. Do introduce her to any mirrors and keep her caged when cooking to avoid burns and scalds in case she flies over to help cook. We have had several Greys fly out of doors and windows here lately and that is heart breaking so keep an eye on security as well. Speak to her often, if she offers the top of her head you can scratch it for her but keep an eye on her body language to avoid a bite, if she is looking down you should be safe if she cuts those eyes up to you then get back. Yes a bite hurts and can draw blood but I think it hurts you feelings more than your body. Give her little treats during your day and tell her what you are doing and when you will be back if you go out. Sounds silly but it help build that relationship and trust. Welcome to our corner of the Grey world and keep asking questions we are all willing to help each other reach the potential in our relationships with these marvelous birds.

That is a wonderful story, they are so smart they can even have self discusssions. -
They are lovely and not as noisy as many others. I was lucky enough to work at a Zoo that housed a pair.
