  1. My TAG is named Partner, I didn't choose the name, and he is 4 years old so he knows it and I didn't really wanna change it on him lol. My bearded dragons name is Norbert, after Hagrid's baby dragon in Harry Potter. My chameleons name is Rosie, no special meaning to it lol My chameleon that passed away, his name was Pepito, after the chameleon on Dr. Doolittle. And my cats name is Shadow, he is a black cat and when he is out at night he looks like a shadow moving through the night.
  2. It is a cohesive type tape that is used on horses and other animals as a band aid type of wrap. It sticks to itself and not the wound or animals hair. I found mine at Farm and Fleet in the horse section, there are a bunch of different colors and they are about $2.30 a piece
  3. I paid $1200 for my TAG at a pet store. But I found another pet store close by that sells fully weaned CAGs for $850.
  4. I may change the design just a bit to better suit African Grey's. The design I have would be better for larger birds. I may take the one inch PVC and cut it down to 1/4". Just for a better fit. And possibly going with a smaller size rope for a tighter fit. Maybe move the rungs of the ladder closer together as well to make it easier for them to climb up and down. Any input?
  5. It will take some time. When I first brought Partner home, he currently lives at my dad's house. He would not go near my dad. If my dad were to go near him, he would back away, and if he would put his hand near Partner he would get bitten. Now, Partner has been at home for over 2 months and my dad can pick him up and also pet him now. Be patient. In time it Bella will be trusting of you.
  6. Both look really good. Good Job! I can't do little things like that, They would be way to elaborate and I would need to make everything look even and color wise there would have to be all matching. lol but again Very good job -Nick-
  7. In all honesty, I will admit, I gave the money thing a thought, and while yes he does cost a quite a bit of my spare money, I still think my reptiles cost me more. They require all the heat lights, live food etc. I love Partner to death, and I also love spending all my money on him to make him happy. lol.
  8. Well, I've been thinking. I need some extra money right now, so I am thinking about making hand made bird toys and selling them on ebay. I can get the stuff very easily and from all the great comments of encouragement and praise on this one, I think I could probably do really well with it. It is still a thought in process. Would anyone want to buy one of my creations if I started doing it? lol -Nick-
  9. He was in position for a really good shot, it was a little dark and the camera picked up on it and moved while the shudder was still shut. So it turned out rather blurry, and makes him look transparent. I just thought it was cool lol.
  10. luvparrots - unfortunately he isn't mine, I wish I could buy him, but I currently don't have the money for him. He has the potential to be a great bird. And again, thank you everyone for the wonderful comments.
  11. Thanks guys. I had to trick partner on to it. I had to put my hand through it, have him step up on that hand, than pull my other hand away and hold a treat in front of him so the only way to get it was to step on the ladder. When he got up there I pulled my other hand away and gave him the treat. He looked so cute on there. Stay tuned for further DIY or ideas for things like this, I have a lot of Ideas in my head now, I just need to figure out the materials that I will need.
  12. The beak is a bit intimidating. The pet shop is going to be getting it trimmed soon. The bad part is, they got it trimmed not that long ago. I would rather have an African Grey bite me over a beak like that. That could probably take your finger off lol
  13. So I was taking pictures of Partner today, and managed to get this one. Idk how it happened but it looks really cool lol -Nick-
  14. Okay, so this is the same Rope Ladder as my other thread, but decided since I'm trying to give you guys step-by-step instructions on how to make it, It would just be easier to make a separate thread. Materials Needed: 2 - 5' long 1" diameter PVC Pipes (change diameter depending on the bird) $1.27 at Menards 16 - 1" Caps for PVC Piping about 43 cents a piece at Menards 4 - 1/4" Sisal Rope comes in 50' lengths (you can use any rope that is safe for birds) $2.08 at Menards 2 - Quick Links that I found at Wal-Mart for $2.87 4 - Vetrap (any color) found at Farm & Fleet in the Horse Section for about $2.67 a piece. First take the two 5' long PVC pipes and mark them at every foot, and cut them to 1 foot lengths. There will be 2 pieces that will not be a foot long if you use a table saw. So there will be 8 - 1' long pipes Put the caps on the 8 1' sections... Now, take the sisal rope (or any rope that's bird safe) and wrap them around the pipes. 1 roll of the sisal rope I used will only wrap 3 of the tubes if you do it right. So 3 rolls of the sisal rope is required to wrap all 8 sections. After that, I used a drill press to drill 5/16" holes through the caps and pipe (same time). I did it free hand so the holes were pretty good but not exact. After that, I put the Vetrap around the ends and poked holes in it so it would be easier to get the rope through later. Now that all that is done, here comes the interesting part. You have to get the rope through the holes. I measured them at about 8" between each of the ropes. As a tip, try wrapping electrical tape around the end of the rope to act as a "needle" to thread it through and then just cut of the electrical tape when complete. Make sure you are tying knots as you go because it is really annoying to have to re-thread it. After finishing the threading and knotting, make sure to leave about a foot at both ends of the ladder to tie on the quick links. Now you just have to find somewhere to put it. Which is the most interesting parts. It can be used as a ladder or if you would like to hang up both ends and make a bridge out of it.
  15. Thanks Dan. I also Have a few more ideas for cool "ladder/playstand" type things in my head right now, I just gotta get some more funds.
  16. Partner hates it, so I figure if he doesn't get used to it, I'm sure some bird would love it, and some owner would want to buy it. I will load all the pictures a little later, and I will do some step by step as best as possible to help you guys. Granted, it is very simple, there are just a few things that are the hardest things.
  17. These are pictures of a Blue and Gold Macaw that I like to go and visit on occasion when he wants to be out. He is a very sweet bird, but he is IMPOSSIBLE to get out of his cage without a fight.
  18. caitb2007 - I actually have pictures of all the materials and how I made it if you or anyone else would be interested I will post "step-by-step" instructions. It is made using PVC piping, Sisal Rope to string them together and to wrap around the pvc pipe. The colorful things at the end is actually VetRap. Found it at Farm and Fleet for around $2.08 per roll. It is in the horse section. Lots of different colors as well.
  19. Haha, maybe he could, I was hoping that the bright colored vetrap would convince him or at least "trick" him into thinking it was something different. I still want to add some stuff to it to make it more appealing. Now the problem is trying to find where to hang it
  20. I was feeling crafty the other day, which isn't a very common thing lol. And decided to make Partner a ladder, which he may or may not enjoy lol. It only cost me maybe 15 bucks to make the entire thing. it is about 10 feet in length and it is a foot wide. I still have to add the quick links onto it and tie the knots. But all in all I think it came out well and I hope he will learn to like it! -Nick-
  21. AWWWWW! TinyTimneh, that is so sweet and you are very fortunate for that. I would love Partner to do that. But in the same breath I don't want him to change lol
  22. Well, The Severe's are normally 750 but are cut down to 500 right now, probably because not a lot of people around my area are into exotic birds as much as I am. The babies were cute, but the 3 older ones they had were a bit on the mean side. The owner doesn't understand why. She says it wasn't from a lack of attention or anything so she is kinda puzzled by it. Judy, I'm having that problem. It is so tempting to bring home that Timneh. He is quite a feisty little one, he is mean. But I think I could get him to be more open. I have the patience and the heart to try and get him to be open if he is willing. If not, he would still be loved all the same.
  23. That is really great to hear! How much more does it take to take care of the Severe's compared to our grey's or other macaws? They are having a sale on the Severe's right now, they are going for $500. Which I just thought was a streal. I was laughing so hard at one of the ones they had there just because the way it was moving around and dancing. The baby ones were so cute I had to leave before I did come home with another one. lol
  24. That is greyt everyone! It is really cool to know that not everyone has the same experience and all are unique. It shows even more that they are all individuals and have the intelligence we all know they have but the skeptics still are not understanding.
  25. A local pet store in a town about an hour away, it specializes more in birds than anything else, and they breed every bird they sell. They also have quite the extensive line. 12 different types in all. Macaws -Blue and Golds -Green Wings -Harlequins -Hyacinths (in the near future, they are currently looking for a male to breed with the female they already have) -Severes Amazons -Blue Front -Double Yellow Headed -Mexican Red Headed -Yellow Naped African Greys -Congo -Timneh And they also breed Eclectus' I also held and played with one of the really young DYH Amazons, it was gorgeous, and he was such a sweetheart, I almost bought him there on the spot. Luckily my cousin told me no and dragged me out lol. They also had 2 baby congos, 2 congos that were less than a year old, 2 Severe Macaws and 2 DYH Amazons that were also only a few months old. The Severe's were a bit nippy and jealous that I was holding the amazon lol. All in all it was a good trip to the pet store. -Nick-
