In my opinion a person should think LONG TERM and consider the future. Do you have kids if not do you want kids down the road, Can you handle the time/care/attention of both a human child as well as a feathered one? People NEED to really sit and think of everything. These birds live a long time if cared for properly and become so close to their parront/s. I cannot imagine getting rid of my Dalia and forcing her to have to get to know someone else all over again. Very stressful for them. "Of Parrots and People" is a great book. http://www.amazon.com/Parrots-People-Fascinating-Catastrophic-Intelligent/dp/0670019690 I think people forget that these intelligent creatures are already living a life very different from those in the wild. They have to live with and tolerate their humans world. We as humans should change our life to best suit the birdies, not the other way around. It’s very sad that now a day’s parrots have become merchandise to be bought traded and sold for hundreds or thousands of dollars. All to benefit and suit OUR world. When we are the ones who went and sought out parrots as pets years and years ago. I just wish that ALL people could understand that these little birdies are more than just a pet to place on display in their homes, nor are they to be torn apart emotionally when the owner decides that they don’t fit into THEIR life anymore.

Remember that feeling! I waited months for one baby grey and then when he had a vet exam he had Pseudamonas bacteria. So I then had to search again! Finally i go my little girl and she is WONDERFUL. Well worth the wait!

Oh my goodness. Poor lil guy. I hope that you get to a good avian vet and find out what is wrong with him. I hope he will be ok.

My Dalia is good about going back in. Of course, she doesnt go in on her own for bedtime but, she steps up and allows me to put her to bed. I think she has gotten used to me giving her a small treat when she goes to bed for being such a good girl, I tell her Good girl whenever she steps up and for going in without a fuss at nite. I think if a grey gets really upset when put in for bed he/she hasnt gotten enough attention or outta cage time. But I could be wrong.

How often should I feed Cantaloupe to my CAG?

Dalia is out of her cage pretty much all of the time when I am home. Out of cage time should be AT LEAST 4 hours a day as minimum I would say. I got a stand/perch with tray that I place right outside the bathroom door in the AM and leave the door open so she can watch me get ready for work. ( just don’t use hairspray, perfume etc) Then I feed her soft foods when I leave for work and my hubby who comes home a few hours later for lunch takes out what food she may not have eaten and he lets her out for an hour over lunch as well. I try and switch up her toys so she doesn’t get bored, she has a good variety to destroy. ( now I add an empty TP roll as well) I get home a few hours later and I then let her out the rest of the nite till bedtime, usually btwn. 10pm-12am Over the wknd. She is out pretty much all day unless I am doing certain chores and have the door opened or there is some other hazard. She really just wants attention all of the time, like any baby would! I would also say that one on one affection time is very important too, Dalia has to have her cuddle time, she loves to sit in my lap and lay her head low get pets and rubs for a good hour while I watch TV. If I stop she pushes my hand and asks for more…whatta sweety….

Dalia loves Cantaloupe so much including the seeds. I need to know how often should I give it to her? I dont want to give it too often if it will harm her in any way. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP EVERYONE! Cris

THANKS EVERY ONE. I am still trying to get her to eat them. She still wont. I was told to stop giving her the soft/wet foods or cut back on them, and she would eat her pellets. But, I can't do that I feel bad. She is SO used to me feeding her veggies and fruits and her beans/grains/pasta/veggie mix. She LOVES cantaloupe!! If anyone has any other ideas to help me to get her to eat her pellets I would appreciate it!! thanks Cristen -

Also what type of oatmeal do you give your grey? I made up a bunch of different grains ( barley, bulga, quinoa etc,) cooked seperate and also a variety of beans and peas cooked up with Jalapeno peppers/garlic in the cooking water..... Let me know when you cn I appreciate it! -

I am worried that maybe she is not getting enough nutrition. Maybe Im just worried too much, but I thought that she would nibble the pellets as well as eat other things but she isnt. I will look for the Sunscription vita prima. I am in Canada so I hope I can find it, I think I may need to order it. thanks Cflanny
