Thank you Judy, I am very hopeful that Sully will be fully feathered some day. And yes, sorry to say that there is a sweet sun conure that has totally plucked its chest feathers and it breaks my heart. This sweet conure belongs to the shop owner so I am hoping that once she sees Sully is doing great, she will let me purchase her sun conure as well. Fingers crossed.

Post edited by: luvparrots, at: 2009/06/21 03:41

Great pictures of Spock. Love the one with the wings spread out!

Thanks Caitlin, Sully is very easy to love. He is a jewel of a fid. If you do decide to re-home a needy bird, the rewards are so wonderful. If I do accomplish turning Sully around, I have my eye on a sun conure who is also a plucker. We'll see.

Cindy, Lily does not go near my fids. She will come get me if they start walking around on the floors. Lily is a quiet and cuddly pug and is very mellow. From the start she has known that the birds are "no touchy" She tolerates them if they get close and moves away. I have tried to give Sully head scratches but he raises his head and watches my hands so I have not had the pleasure yet. He has let me pet his wings a little but when he turns his head toward my hand I know the moment is over. He steps up for me when he wants and does not try to bite me. He is still leery so I respect his space. I truly love this big guy and know that with time, he will grow to trust me.

Solomon (Sully) the Eclectus has been part of my household for six weeks today. He is my Gentle Giant and is the quietest and most gentle guy. He has stopped shrieking (and so has Ana Grey stopped mimicking that shriek thank God). Sully only says "Hi," "Huh," and laughs. He tolerates Ana Grey and she of course tries to beak him all the time. He rears up or loudly screams but does not hurt her. He loves to trip over to her cage and sit in it when Ana Grey is out. She lets him. I have to go get him out or he would stay most likely. Sully prefers his cage or sitting on the top of my computer screen or on the window perch at the front room window. Sometimes he likes to go walking around the house and when he is through exploring he goes back to his cage. He has a ladder to climb up and down on at his leisure. He loves to sit on my shoulder which I allow some times. Most importantly as you can see from his pictures, he is growing his feathers back. He does not pluck at all. I couldn't be happier. His appetite is great and he loves pecans and apples and pieces of shrimp and beef. Although for the last 8 years he has not flown, I am hopeful that when his feathers grow back he will be able to fly. Luckily both Sully and Ana Grey are very good about keeping me a "no poop zone" for which I am forever grateful. Thanks for asking about Sully, Cindy!

Perhaps they think the sweeper is your toy and you enjoy picking up things on the floor so they are just helping you out!!!!!  :silly:

Kenz, the pictures of Bonek are absolutely gorgeous! He looks like a very self-assured and happy grey. He is like my Ana Grey, he loves to play with straws and so does she. Thanks for sharing your fine grey with us!

Don't give up Diane. Keep looking. Perhaps at the local grocery store or mall and local pet stores (if someone finds Polly they will need food, bird supplies, a cage) you could post a lost poster.

Great pictures of your fids and your handsome son!

Hi Jasmine, from looking at your Avatar, it is easy to see that April is a very fine looking grey and you are a very responsible 14 year old. Can't wait to hear more about April and see more pictures of her if you have any more to share. Welcome to the family!

Whew, am I glad my Ana Grey and Sully (Eclectus) are nice and quiet fids. The worst they do is search the house for me and if they can't find me go back to their cages and call for me. Even my Lily (pug) will quietly sit on the couch and wait for me to come find her. I do however get a big kick and a great laugh reading your posts about the adventures of Spock!!! Thanks for sharing your little spitfire with us!

Hi Anthony, welcome to the family. Congratulations on becoming a grey parront. From your Avatar it is apparent that you have a very fine looking grey. Can't wait to see more pictures if you have any more to share. We love to see pictures of everyone's fids!

So sorry Caitlin, I believe someone or something unintentionally has caused Ecko to be protective of his home and family. Hopefully this problem will correct itself if you are firm and consistent in your letting Ecko know that his behavior is unacceptable. I believe our fids do understand tone of voice and expression better than some people. Explain to Ecko why he is being put in his cage. They are so very intelligent and I know you can straighten this problem out with a little patient. Good luck.

When I first got Ana Grey she would screech when I left the room. I then started telling her that "I'll be back" when I left. She shortly realized what "I'll be back" meant that I would be right back. She doesn't screech now unless I am gone too long and then I just call out, "I'll be right there" and she is quiet. I believe that Ana Grey just wants to be acknowledged and to know that I am not ignoring her. In the morning my birds are very quiet until I get up to fix their breakfast then the calling begins. I tell them that I am getting their breakfast and to wait their turn. I always feed my pug Lily first, then the birds, then me. They quiet down once I acknowledge them. Again, I believe they just want to remind me that they are hungry and once I acknowledge that, they wait pretty quietly. I truly believe that our fids understand what we say and just want to be part of the whole process and family.

Oh poor Carol, dumped for a nutriberry!!! How humiliating!!! {Feel-good-0002006E}{Feel-good-0002006B} You gave me a good laugh Carol, Thanks!!!

Caroline, what a very unselfish thing you want to do. Will you need any health care abilities or training to do this sort of job and are there any licenses you need to have? What would be the hours you would be needed to be available? Would you need a chauffeur's license to drive people around? If this is something you are interested in doing, I would certainly look into the requirements, insurances, and liabilities needed to provide this service. Personally, I think you would be a wonderful care provider. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Nice video of Spock. Waiting patiently for more Spock adventures!

My Ana Grey was long clipped when I got her too. Her breeder believed it was safer for her so she did it even though she knew I wanted Ana Grey to fly. It is heartbreaking to watch her try to fly, which she does all the time. I do see new feathers growing in so I am hopeful that by the time she is a year old, she will be able to fly! Both my fids are clipped and so they walk all around the house and I am always hunting for them. I count on my Lily, pug, to find them for me a lot of the time. I have all hardwood floors so I am always listening for the scratch, scratch, scratch of little claws and beaks of the flooring. I have dangling ropes and ladders around the bottom of hanging perches and boings and on their cages so they can go back in as they please if they are hungry or thirsty.

I'm going to have to drag out my bicycle at these prices!!!!
