Jay, you cannot force a grey or any animal not to be afraid. It takes time and patience. Please back up and give your sweet grey a chance to get use to her new environment. Nothing will be accomplished until your grey feels safe and can trust you.
I would go with the microchipping as once is it done you can forget about it unless you need to identify your grey if it is lost and found. A band can be removed. I believe tatooing would be more painful and certainly take longer than mircochipping. That's my opinion anyway. Karma to you for having a 22-year old grey. What is his name? I would love to see a picture of your grey and hear more about him.
I have perches and boings all over my house so I can take my fids into all the rooms. They enjoy being where the "action" is. If they want they hop down and return to their cages for water or a snack. If they want back up on their perches or boings they stand on my feet or nip at my toes until I pick them up. This works for us as they are out of their cages whenever I am home and not sleeping.
Congrats on your new grey. Chiku sounds like a real sweetheart. I hope Echo decides to be Chiku's friend. Can't wait to hear more about how their "bonding" goes.
So sorry that Darius will need to be quarantined longer. But Pat look on the bright side, Darius has no diseases and with your love and great care he will be a healthy bird in no time. He is so lucky to have found you!!!!
Others have outdoor aviaries for the greys that they take them out to during the day and return inside to their cages later in the day. So so I believe it would be a great idea, Marion.
Yes, please place her food in her food bowl and she will eat it when she gets hungry. They are very intelligent and will eat if they get hungry! Welcome to the Grey family, Amerrie!
Hi Matthew, glad you and Charlie have joined the grey family. Karma to you for choosing an older grey. Can't wait to see some pictures of Charlie and hear more about him. Welcome to the family!

Post edited by: luvparrots, at: 2009/08/28 06:10
Amerrie, perhaps until Taffy starts eating from her food bowls you should keep her in her cage when you are eating. It's wonderful that you have patience with her and with a little time all will be on the right track.
So sorry for the trouble you are having Cindy with Flying South. I hope your bank can straighten it all out and you will get all your money back. Please let us know what happens.
