So my three very independent and dominating parrots have all decided that my office is their office. They don't "love" each other. Even the 4-month-old, Sterling, has a mind of his own. He stands up for his space. So, I now have THREE bungees/boings in my office, as well as a couple of stands and of course the large netting at the window. I refuse to remove my desk and computer though!!!! I have to retain some sense of dignity and authority at least!!!! First two bungees: New bungee: Second bungee with Ana Grey: The window netting (note: how much smaller Ana Grey is then 4-month old Sterling):

Ahhhh yes, Sirocco, the kakapo, an endangered flightless parrot from New Zealand. I remember him!!!!

Update!!!! I spoke to Sully's new "Mom". Everyone in his new owner's family has embraced Sully into their home. Well, Ida wants to take Sully driving with her so she has purchased him a handmade leather harness from Florida. I can't wait to see this!!!! Certainly, Sully is very spoiled and loving it!!!!

I am not a fan of wing clipping. There are circumstances where it might be necessary. Small unmanageable children going in and out of the house. And well that's all I can think of!!! My TAG came clipped. Is now fully flighted and a darn good acrobat. Louie, the zon, has never been clipped and my newest CAG is lightly clipped by the breeder and bounces all around in his cage because he wants use of his wings. His tail is a mangled mess from the attempts to fly around. He will never be clipped again! It is a personal choice. Please read Dave007's posts. Personally, I believe ours fids are much more happy and confident if they can take flight when needed. Think about how you would like to only be able to crawl and not walk. It's probably like that for our feathered friends. I am so envious of their ability to fly free. I love the sound of flapping wings when my babies come looking for me. What a thrill!!!!!!

Sterling Gris is settling in nicely. Although the breeder clipped him, he was allowed to fly and strengthen his wings and learned to get lift before he was lightly clipped. Sterling can go from the couch to a hanging perch for example or across the room and land softly. I am very grateful that he "flies" so well. Ana Grey and Louie both have decided baby Sterling is the "enemy" Both dive bomb him and try to peck at him. However, Sterling is a very independent young 16 week old grey and he "fights" back. I have become a very busy referee and Ana Grey and Louie both spend a lot of time in the bird room with the door closed. I hope they will learn to leave Sterling alone as he has priority because...... He is the baby!!!!! I was worried when Gail and Tom said that Sterling, although he was fully weaned, still enjoyed an evening snack of formula. I know nothing about weaning babies and I was not a fan of trying. I have watched Sterling closely (in case he really wasn't eating on his own) and to my delight and gratitude he eats heartily!!!! He will not take formula in the AM and only wants it at night. Hooray. Sterling Gris loves to be in my plants!!!! He loves to play and keep busy: Sterling Gris is such a big boy and very independent and active. I now know why his tail is such a mess. He is a busy boy!!!!

Aww yes what our greys remember and like to say. I stubbed my bare toe on the bed frame and it hurt so (unfortunately) out came "F_ _ k it" (well it really hurt!!!) You got it, Ana Grey loved that phrase and used it at least a couple of times a day. I didn't say a word to her about it, so thank goodness it was only about a month that it was a popular phrase for her.

What I am waiting for is a movie of a real parrot. I think Dayo would be great in a movie. Dayo is so verbal and intelligent. (Dan, now remember my 10% LOL!)

Now everyone is just being kind, Sterling's tail is a real rat's nest right now. It is a mess, but Sterling is a very cuddly and loving grey with a great and calm personality. That's what drew me to him. As for Ana Grey, she has hung around his cage but I have not had them out together yet, vet first is the priority. I have been trying something different, no more Ana Grey first because she has been here longest, she is very jealous and very spoiled so I have started putting her back in the bird room when she is nasty. It seems to be putting her in her place. So we will see how that goes.

Tagtastic, shhhhhhhhhh, don't tell anyone!!!!!!! But the answer is no, this is my last parrot unless......... someone gives me a hyacinth macaw, or I find a parrot that rrrrreeeallllyyy rrrreeealllllyyy needs me! LOL!!! I''m afraid my oldest daughter will disown me if I don't have a really good reason to get another. The only way I got away with this one was.... It was a real bargain and it's my 65th birthday, pretty soon!!!! LOL!!!! Thanks everyone for your comments, I have waited for over a year to find a CAG and finally, I have one. Hooray!!!!!

When I got my home, I knew I wanted flighted parrots so I had all the carpet removed and I put in laminated wood floors throughout. I use newspaper around the cages and under ceiling bungees and perches. I weight them down otherwise they would be floating all over my home. I live alone so this is all right by me. If there are poops on the floor I clean them up with a damp paper towel and after the birdies are in for the night I mop the floors with vinegar and water. I keep a close eye on my parrots when they are out so they are pretty spoiled and use to my scoldings. I have trained them to sit at the perches and bungees so that, of course, helps a lot. Ana Grey also like to be close to me, so she follows me around. Louie, the zon, is re-homed and so usually only goes from the bird room to my office. As I said they are pretty mellow and easy going birds. As for cleaning the stages usually every other day, or sooner, if needed. Say after a self-given really wet bath after I have cleaned the cage!!!! LOL!!! Love those parrots!!!!

If you are talking about "empty" hulls, the "skin" of some seeds, I just take the bowls outside and blow them out. Works great for me.

I am happy Dave, I wish you had said something about your babies, I would have waited for you, if I had known! Barbara, I looked up the French word for Grey and there were a number of spellings. I chose the one my grandson, gave me. Ray, Sterling is a big boy, he does weigh in at 495g. He is at least a third more large than Ana Grey and she weighs in at 303g. If I hadn't seen their other babies that they had who were 3 weeks younger and how large they were, I would not have believed his age. His dark eyes are also an indication of his young age and his cute little clucking is heartwarming. We'll see what the vet says when he goes in for his first visit in a few days.

I lost my canary Julie shortly after I got him and I have not tried to replace him. He was so small and quick. I would let him fly around and then he was out the door. Quick as lighting and gone forever.

So I went to meet a 4-month-old grey last afternoon yesterday and the breeders were very nice and caring people. The grey I went to see was the last of three from a clutch and the person who had asked for him, at the last could not come up with the cash. So, Gail remembered I had asked to be remembered if a "deal" fell threw and now Sterling Gris is a resident of Moulton's brood. The name comes from my daughter and grandson. Gabriel is a very studious and observant young man. He did a little research and learned that in the Congo, people there speak French and English. So he looked up the French word for Grey and found it to be Gris (Gree). Not to be outdone by her brilliant son, Donna through in the name Sterling. So as not to show favorites, meet Sterling Gris my new baby: [/img] Now Sterling Gris is very active and so apparently has damaged his tail--a lot-- after being clipped! I know but I was not involved in this decision and it will be corrected, henceforth. But the tail will molt and new will evolve so I will be patient. So here is Sterling Gris' tail: [/img] Sterling Gris weighs in at 495 grams so I will be keeping an eye on him. He is unsure of his large cage and has fallen much too often, so I have moved him back to the travel cage until he calms down and is more sure of himself. Sterling Gris steps up nicely and is a cuddle button. So now the hard part begins, making sure Ana Grey does not devour Sterling (who is really much larger than little Ana Grey). but I'll think about that on another day!!!! LOL!!!!

I have had Louie, BF zon, since September 2010. He still will not let me touch him without trying to nip at me. BUT, he is very smart and he and I have an understanding. I show him what I want and he tries very hard to comply. He now goes back into his cage with a "nite, nite, Louie, get in your cage" and a tap on the door. I can now also from his cage get him into his travel carrier so I can take him outside for some sun. Louie is a very active zon and really wants to trust me so I will wait until he is ready. I have every belief that with time and more patience Louie will grow to trust me and I will be able to some day handle him. On another note, I am very excited!!!! Louie today, on his own, left the bird room and came into my office to be with me. He played on his bungee and seemed to be enjoying himself. When it got towards evening he flew back to the bird room and upon my request got back into his cage. So we are working out a schedule and system that will work for the two of us. He is so very comical and a joy to watch so I really don't mind the wait.

If you "Dropped the Ball", it means you fumbled. You had the responsibility to see something through to conclusion, and you failed.

Congratulations on your new grey! Welcome to the Grey family!
