  1. My BF zon is 4 years old and his feet are warm. Nice and toasty warm.
  2. Now you have me curious! My Louie has just started to step up for me but unfortunately I have not noticed any special zon smell. Is the zon smell a mature amazon thing!! Details please Jayd!!
  3. Unless your grey doesn't like the color red for some reason and some greys don't like certainly colors I understand, then get the color harness you want.
  4. My parrots are chipped by Homeagain because that is what my avian vet uses. I like it because they contact others in my area who can be on the look out for my parrots if they do escape.
  5. Hi Tania, congrats on your new grey. We would love to see some pictures of Zuzu as we are all grey fanatics. As for the microchipping, I am all for it. I have three parrots and they are all microchipped. Some believe the process would be painful to their greys. I can honestly say that none of my parrots reacted negatively because of the chipping. Before I took my tag, Ana Grey (303g) into be microchipped my avian veterinarian's office's practice was to sedate before microchipping. I asked them not to sedate my grey as I believe that could cause more damage then a little needle prick. Their practice is not to sedate parrots before microchipping now. Hooray! I now have a sense of calm because I know that my flighted companions are as safe has I can get them if they should decide to have an outdoor adventure without me. Because it is so easy for a vet's office to check for a microchip, most do it for free, if not all. My vet's office will check to see if my parrots' chips are still in place anything I want; all I have to do is bring them in. Some are afraid of tumors due to microchipping. I believe you can't worry about much things and if you take your parrot in for a chip checking any such tumors can be found. Ironically, when I took my pug in to be microchipped the vet found a tumor, so I believe having my pug chipped was a blessing to remove a cancerous tumor. Having my parrots microchipped let's anyone who finds them know who the true owner is. It is a shame that some people believe that finding a parrot/bird makes it theirs. If someone finds my parrots and I find them unwilling to return my birds, I can find them guilty of theft and have them punished for theft because the chip on my parrot definitely proves my parrot to be mine. I have a calm peace of mind knowing that I have done everything I can to see that my parrots can be returned to me.
  6. Kudos to you and your hubby for rescuing this sweet grey. Jaq'O is most likely quite scared and because of his ill treatment most likely believes you and hubby will do the same. So relax and talk quietly to Jaq'O. Let him get use to his new cage and being treated like the sweet grey he could be. We have a Rescue Room for threads about mistreated greys and Jaq'O so fits that description. For now, just talk to Jaq'O and let him relax and get full of healthy and nutritious foods.
  7. My parrots always have fresh pellets out, but they eat very little of them. As others have said a balanced diet of "real" food is so much more important. Get an avian scale and weigh your grey and if he mains a healthy average weight, its good. I believe in the Health Room, Dave007 has the average weights of Tags and Cags at varies body sizes.
  8. Then a male tiel it shall be! Can't wait to see the one special one!
  9. The Aviator Harness is the best. I have a TAG so she has a small harness. The first harness I got was a feather tether and it was terrible. You can find the Aviator Harness on the internet at the parrotuniversity.com
  10. There is no guarantee that any parrot will like a certain person. It does not matter who feeds the parrot, cleans the cage, interacts, etc. They choose who they want. I have a Tag who is very aggressive with my other two parrots and she is the smallest. She has chosen certain members of the family and certain neighborhood children that she will go to willingly. I don't let anyone touch my parrots, my parrots choose who they will go to and interact with. My parrots are all flighted so they can come and go as they want. I favorites are zons and greys. Let your husband go out and find the parrot for him. That is the best way for him/you to choose the next right parrot to join the family. My parrots only tolerate each other, if they get into a spat, one will fly off before anyone gets to onery. A lot of people interact with their parrots before they leave for work perhaps your hubby can bond with the parrots in the AM before work and then in the evenings. I always tell my gang when I am leaving and they are usually sitting on the front window perches/boings when I come home. Choose the addition to the family with your hearts and you will have a better chance of success.
  11. Well hello Christi and Drew. Welcome to the Grey family. Can't wait to see some pictures of your grey.... (name please) and hear how he delights your life.
  12. Well, I have to say that Ana Grey always knows when I am going to sit down with a dish of breakfast/lunch or dinner. The bird room is out of sight to the kitchen and living room so i believe she has a sense of smell. As for taste, she also chooses what she likes to eat and what to ignore.
  13. Hi Caroline, welcome to the Grey family! Lots of information here so read, read and ask all the questions you want. Looking forward to hearing about your new grey when you find the one for you.
  14. Hooray!!!! Congrats. Now get to posting, I miss your advice!!
  15. I would think that you probably can't see/hold the chick until it is brought into the home for handfeeding and socializing. Before that even the breeder would not be handing the chicks unless needed. Ask the breeder. I did not see my grey until she was weaned and we bonded quickly because the breeder socialized her babies very well. Talk to the breeder especially if you are friends.
  16. Cage covering is a personal preference. I have also read information about not covering a cage because of the grey dander that greys have and how enclosing the dander and other airborne particles can cause respiration problems. Personally I like fresh air so I do not cover my birds' cages.
  17. This is my personal opinion, to me, these cages would be pretty hard to keep clean, all that glass and small wire spacing. If you like the style you should get one, frankly I don't think a grey/parrot would know the difference except it might be harder to give a head tickle without opening the cage.
  18. You need to relax. When you moved him again he might of had a little setback. So relax, talk to him and just let nature take its course. I have waited over a year for a rehomed zon to relax enough to come to me on his own. It took time but the reward is so worth the wait.
  19. i grew up on a farm in California and we have free range chickens, peacocks, etc. all running free. What fun!!
  20. Greycie is a very cute TAg, I love those tags! Welcome to the Grey family, can't wait to hear more about Greycie!
  21. Hi Tyler, congrats on your new grey. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of ... what is your grey's name???? Welcome to the Grey family!
  22. I am sitting here listening to four birds talking and having a great time. Eyes closed, canary singing behind me and three parrots each talking away so that the house resounds with chatter. Priceless!!!
  23. I know for a fact that it doesn't matter how old a parrot is if they want to learn. My neighbors have an ekkie that is at least 10 years old. He is learning new words because he is saying the kids names now. How do I know these are new words, because I owned this ekkie for 2 1/2 years before the neighbors and he didn't say the things he says now. Sully is happy and content now, well just like Oliver and so he is talking up a storm! Congratulations!
  24. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, oops now I have the hiccups from all that laughing!!!!!
  25. Sounds like you have a pretty good and loving hubby there! Congrats!
