Sorry Wingy, I am really trying to be good and I try to remember that I will only take in another parrot if it, really, really, really, really needs a home. Actually I a thinking about volunteering to become a rescue person for homeless parrots, so we will see if I really get the calling for a worthwhile cause.

Love the picture of Lido. What a cutie! Love to see the little baby greys and Lido looks like he has a lot of personality going on there. Congrats on your sweet grey!

Sounds like you have really thought this out very well, so I believe your little friend is going to be a very much loved and cared for new family addition. Hooray!!! Can't wait to hear how the homecoming goes!!

The perfect spot for your new family member is in the living room if this is the room where all the action is. If you don't keep your grey's cage in the living room then there should be a perch, boing, or other place for your grey to sit/stand to be included in the family fun. My three have a bird room just for them but they are all flighted so they fly into the living room where I spend a lot of time. They have a window perch, a boing and floor perch in front of the front windows next to the couch where I sit. If they need a snack they can fly back to the bird room and eat to their hearts content. They also have boings/perches in the kitchen/dining area of my home away from the stove. All the places you mentioned to put the main cage are fine as long as your grey can easily see/interact with the family. Just remember wherever you place the main cage your grey will need to get at least 10/12 hours of sleep time to be rested, happy and healthy.

Why not have your boyfriend give this a try. He should ignore Jager and just act as if Jager isn't around. Have your boyfriend eat some of the peanuts Jager loves and not offer any to Jager and make a big deal about how great them taste and how much he loves these peanuts. My parrots love whistling and singing so if your boyfriend is a whistler or singer have him sing/whistle around Jager and just show Jager no mind. See what Jager's reaction is to this and have your friend keep this up for awhile and see if Jager sees him differently. I have never let others touch or handle my parrots. It has always been my parrots choosing whom them like or want to be around. I find that if animals/parrots get to make the choices of their friends, the friendships are more lasting and satisfying for all.

My 6month CAG is not eating his vegetables what should I DO?!?!
Luvparrots replied to 8oh8faka's topic in Bird Food
You know your parrot, unless it is ill, will not starve itself. So feed your baby its leafy/good veggies in the AM when he is most hungry. -
Let's see, put on the thinking cap, or just google: Presidents Andrew Jackson, Ulysses Grant, William McKinley, and Theodore Roosevelt kept parrots in The White House. President McKinley's double-yellow headed Amazon was very popular with White House guests because it often shouted "Oh, look at all the pretty girls!" Theodore Roosevelt had a Hyacinth Macaw named Eli. He was afraid of the bird's beak, but there is no record of Eli being a "biter". First Ladies Martha Washington, Dolley Madison, and Grace Coolidge had pet parrots.

Can't wait to see the new rooms!!!! Oh dear, I will not get another parrot, I will not get another parrot, I absolutely will not get another....... .

Hi Tess, a little background please. How long have you had your grey? What is her name by the way. When you say "lately she seems terrified ..." do you mean that she at one time didn't mind going back into the cage at night? A little detail about your routine with her.

Ouchie!!!! I feel your pain and truly understand the adrenaline that both you and Gracie put out. Sterling Gris got caught in a small link long chain and the terror in his screams and the bites I endured while untangling him will not soon be forgotten. Thank the Lord you were home to help Gracie. I believe she understands what you were trying to do and your bond will be stronger. Sterling Gris was all cuddly and happy after his ordeal and I believe Gracie also understands your love for her.

Welcome to you and Waldo. I look forward to getting to how him! Welcome to the Grey family!

Once you get to know your new baby grey a name will come to you.

I make sure my parrots are use to towels. I have one on the back of my office desk chair and one on my sofa for possible poop accidents. You can never know when it becomes necessary for me or others not use to my parrots to quickly move them out of harms way. i.e. fires or other emergencies. Vets use towels all the time and I want my parrots to not be stressed out if they need to go to the vet for a check up.

African Grey wanted Sale/Adoption in NY area
Luvparrots replied to Donshiv's topic in Classifieds Room
Hi Donshiv, welcome to the Grey forums! I have two greys, female and male, and a male BF amazon. None of them really like each other but they can all be out at the same time although I do need to keep an eye on them. I'm across the country in Washington State but when I was looking for a grey I looked on the internet and found breeders in my area. As for your amazon, please post some pictures of her in the Amazon Room as we love our zons!!! -
Hi Trish welcome to the Grey family! Looking forward to seeing some pictures of your sweet Dakota!

Three vacations in a year I can understand why your grey is having a little anxiety about you not returning. Perhaps a little more out of cage time for your grey that is one on one with you. Judy is correct our greys pick up on our stress so relax and try a little more personal time with your sweet companion.

Glad to hear that you have decided to leave Charlie flighted. I love the sound of my three flying through the house or after me from room to room. Flighted parrots are so much more confident and happy!
-
It is certainly very strange that Louie is a totally different guy now. He flies to people he knows that come into the house and he steps up for me without a problem. 18 months later he is a confident and happy member of the family. On another note, I have to take some pictures of something that he and Ana Grey do that puzzles me. They lock beaks, no fighting just beaking each other. Hopefully Jay can tell me what that is all about once I post some pictures.
-
Well, I am excited, Louie has been stepping up for me when I ask. I am so happy, finally he has decided that life can be fun if he lets people close to him. I'm also happy to say that I finally smelt the zon smell. Louie was sitting on my arm and a very masculine musky smell seemed to permeate from him. Very pleasant I must say! I take it he was quite pleased with his accomplishments.

New owner, needs advice!!
Luvparrots replied to rachel schindorff's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hi Rachel, oh yes please do bring Buddy out to where the family is. I believe that all animals greys/parrots/dogs, etc. are very attuned to their surroundings especially people. Everyone should relax and be calm and Buddy will relate likewise. Greys are very smart so talk to Buddy and tell him what you are doing and what is going on. Believe it our not he will understand or at least quickly get the picture. Kudoes to your husband and family for taking in sweet Buddy. I believe you will be delighted with Buddy once you all get to know each other. Welcome to the Grey family! -
You know, I have three parrots and I live alone. Naturally, my parrots are bonded to me because they have no choice. However, they do choose other people who come into my home who they will fly to and sit on their shoulders. I do not allow others to touch my parrots, my parrots choose the other people they want to associate with. I do not want a strange to be able to come into my home and take my fids. I like the fact that no one can handle my flighted parrots unless they want to be handled. My parrots have chosen certain friends/family that they go to. Louie loves the neighbor girl's barrettes. I purchase cute hair barrettes for Jessica just so Louie has his own to destroy. Ana Grey loves my oldest daughter who always sits at the kitchen table eating pistachios which she has stolen from the fids' stash. These are just examples of the attachments our parrots have with certain people in our lives and then by association in theirs. I like to watch my parrots choose people to go to or take treats from because to me animals have a certain instinct about who the good guys are.

Help! my African grey baby is attacking our family pug!
Luvparrots replied to Chenliu85's topic in The GREY Lounge
Sounds like your grey is jealous of the attention your pug is getting. The solution is not clipping but getting your grey to understand that attacking the pug is not acceptable. i too have a pug and 3 parrots. My pug has a pillow under the coffee table and one under a chair and in a corner of the office. Ana Grey, the aggressive grey in my flock, does not bother my Lily now. It took persistence and vigilance to get Ana Grey to leave Lily alone but there is co-existence now and we are all happy.
