Aloe hurts there eyes, I am alway carful not to get it in ZZeros eyes. Not sure if that happened just thought I would mention it.

ZZero is normally a very good boy. I personally can do anything with him, touch hmm anywhere, ANYTHING. He gets very mad though if I ask him not to do somthing and become obsessed. I step him up take the minor bite( I am not afraid of his beak at all and can take some nips)and move him. This quickly turns into a battle of will so I remove him from the situation and try to get his mind on other things. The bites and attitude are getting worse. he is having a MAJOR molt wings and tails almost done. Now I notice attitude changes when he has major feathers coming in, I respect that and can read his language. Today was different.... he was trying to take a piece off my faucet(ongoing battle) I went to remove him like usual and he refused step up and was flying back and forth between the sink and the curtain rod. I needed to remove him from the bathroom ( SON WAS CLEANING IT AND USING PRODUCTS) so I tried to stay calm and kept going for the step up. He bit the SHIT outta me drew blood for the first time.I walked away for a min, came back went for a step up NOPE, I got a stick and set him in another room and keep going in to check if he has calmed down ( about every 5 min) he is not calming down the second I walk in he puffs and clicks. my question is, What is the proper way to respond to this, what should my reaction be. I tried to let him calm it just wasnt happening.He is still PISSED 30 mins later and I think my behavior was same as I usually handle him. I feel very confused on how to deal with this.....

I have bamboo blinds and refused to let ZZero get them so I have things hanging around them that he doesnt like , like scarfs and feather boas. My house looks crazy but I have nice blinds!!

I just taught ZZero to catch and throw. Not sure how it started but I noticed he was grabbing things more with his talons then with his beak lately. So I started with a wadded up piece of paper and would tell him to catch. he reaches with his talon catches it then I cup my hands and he throws it in. I think this was more behavior then training but it was so fun. I didnt have any treats just bridged with a "good Boy" . I thought it was cool we have played for days now and he loves and now I am tossing the paper just a little and he catches it. I wish I could explain how I taught I am just not sure. Turn around is EASY, I just reach on his right side till he turns his butt to me then change the treat to his left and around he comes. this was his first trick and he learned in minutes now I just have to say turn around and he will will do 3 circles to get his treats. http://www.birdchannel.com/bird-behavior-and-training/default.aspx this is a great place to start and get great ideas on training.

Thanks Dave, no I think think color had anything to do wiht them getting along I was worried about size difference? I am glad to know that the mutations are safe cause they are all just so pretty there is a breeder slose to me with turquoise its beautiful.

he is just so cool and your confidence around that beak is amazing in such a short period. he looked nippy for a second but nope and you knew! I just cant wait to read more about him and how things bloom ! Great JOb!

I am considering a Green Cheeked Conure, we are just in the talking and looking around phase but I hope..... there are all these color mutations out there with the couple breeders I have looked at. Are these safe, can this affect their health and/personality. life span or anything wierd from breeding with these mutations? Also if anyone had a GCC and a grey I wonder about the interaction they are very small birds and ZZero hasnt been around any other birds, would this be too drastic of a size difference to make it safe. I know there is no guarentee that they will get along but is there a possibility? Again I am only thinking now and gathiering some info Thanks in advance

ZZero is 16 months old and I would say he knows about 25 or a little more words. He also says some phrases like "what ya doing?" or his new varation "what do you do?" I always try to answer him then ask him the same thing and say your singing or talking or hanging around. ZZero started talking at about 9 months old, then we went thru a phase at 12 months where he was learning somthing new daily, he has not said anything "new" in awhile but we keep trying it seems he really only likes what my hubby says to him. Whats funny is the things I have said over and over since he was little are not in his vocabulary yet like Bombs Away which he hears many times a day when I take him to his potty place( he will potty when told though) I also say I Love You a hundred times a day and NOTHING! lol

Thank you guys so much, this has eased my mind alot. I also think its good for hubby to feed him and interact with him with me not around. he loves my hubby, wants to be around him even sit on him but will NOT step up or let him touch him. so this may make the situation better and he can get all his hours of sleep . thanks thanks thanks

My schedule with my new job is so crazy, changes dailey from starting at 6:30 am to starting at 3pm. ZZeros life has changed so much and I try to get every second with him as possible. So my question is when I go in so early in the morning should I wake him to get ready with me so he can get a hour outta cage or let my hubby wake him at his normal 8:00. My hubby cant really handle him so he just feeds him breakfast, then his veggies and he stays in his cage till I get home. waking him 2 hours early gonna affect his mood, and do you think its easier on him not to see me leave?<br><br>Post edited by: cflanny, at: 2009/08/04 19:03

OMG OMG OMG you crazy bird lady!! Pat you are such a angel as I have said before many times!! he couldnt find a better mom and I am so happy for you. I better jeppers will love him!

hello sorry for all this stuff you 2 are going thru, I was thinking mabey try a sleep cage in your room with you. he can see you still asleep, but he can see you and know hes not alone and you will be up soon. My grey will be quiet almost always if he sees my eyes closed. mabey the new smaller cage will not bring back bad memories. if you keep your room dark till you wake it should help also.

I had a simalar experience yesterday, I have seen him open his feathers before but this was wild. I set him in the bottom of the tub with the shower running very cold water, I stuck my feet in and was splashing him. His wings would go out wide and he would run at my toes. we had so much fun for about 30 mins. I wish all his showers were this fun.

ZZero just turned a year on Sat and I got my first "treat" from him on Sun. I always quietly wondered why I wasnt getting this precious gift lol I was thrilled when it happened but I did not tell him that .

So the job is great , kicken my a@@ a little but worth it, ZZero has been just great, if truth be told told it seems to have made our bond better. After a year I finally had a regurgitated treat lol ( I WAS THRILLED).\ Also working for Whole fOODS zzEROS DIET IS BEYOND BELIEF, SO NATURAL AND HEALTHY WITH TONS AND TONS OF CHOICES. sry hit caps. So he seems very happy and all is going well. I will try and get on but I have been basically working and napping and spending time with ZZero but as I get used to things I will actually be able to post some

OMG hes so cute I have butterflys in my tummie!! I am so glad you shared what a joy. My Shiba was a terrible puppie into everything but noiw she is the best dog on earth. Have fun the stage doesnt last long

Thanks guys it really helps to hear that it might not be so hard on him, I have just been worried sick. This is great job and it benefits my family way more then what I do now. I am very excited but I will sooooooo miss my babies.
