  1. Thank you, Judygram! Ralph
  2. Hello, I'm reading The African Grey Parrot Handbook, and it talks about playing a game where you put your friend in a towel and comfort and pet him. Do you play this game? All of the pictures in the book seem to be of CAGs, so I wonder if the book is geared toward CAGs. Spencer is a TAG, so do all of the things in apply to him? I ask because I've heard that TAGs aren't as phobic, for lack of a better word, than CAGs Thanks, Ralph
  3. Hello, The blood feather needs to come out! I don't want to start any arguments, but I'm wondering about the quality of your vet. Is he an avian vet? I would start looking for a new avian vet. This does bring a question to mind. We never had a blood feather with Poco, our Eclectus. I'm disabled, and could not help Dotty hold Spencer down to remove a blood feather. How can one person remove a blood feather on a bird the size of a Grey? Ralph<br><br>Post edited by: oppie, at: 2008/11/06 08:08
  4. Congratulations on getting ZZero! He's a very handsome guy! I'm not sure when Spencer will be home, as he's still weening. He has graduated to his own cage now, and is eating fruits, veggies, and formula! He's 5 weeks old now. Ralph
  5. Angel sounds like me - I'm disabled, and that DOES NOT stop me!!! WTG What is her disability? Oppie<br><br>Post edited by: oppie, at: 2008/11/06 01:12
  6. Hello, We talked to The Bird Shoppe yesterday, and Spencer has graduated to his own cage! He is eating formula and fruits and vegetables! Ralph
  7. Hello, I always thought that it was like everyone else said: don't spend any more time with them when you get them than you always will. However, I'm confused. I got the idea from [ul]The African Grey Parrot Handbook[/ul] by Mattie Sue Athan and Dianalee Deter, that when you bring a baby home, you should spend a lot of time with them to reassure them. Did I misunderstand? Thanks, Ralph
  8. Hello, I will get more foraging toys when it gets closer to him coming home. Unfortunately, we won't be able to go see him for two or three weeks. Neither Dotty and I drive, and The Bird Shoppe isn't in Cincinnati, so a friend of mine has to take us to see him. She's in college, and finals are coming up for her. When we go, we will have our digital camera in hand!!!! Our Ekkie passed away from liver disease 3 months ago. We would take her outside with the Aviator harness. She was a SI. Would her harness fit Spencer? Ralph and Dotty
  9. Hello, I put a deposit on a TAG today!!!!!! He/she is 3 weeks old. He picked me There were three of them, and I held all 3, but mine gave me a kiss. The other two were flapping and restless, but mine was calm and happy to let me pet him/her! Our cage is 36" W and 30"D. We already got him a foraging toy. I'm getting him from The Bird Shoppe, and our avian vet is the vet for them, so we will know his complete medical history. He will see the vet 2 more times before coming home, and we will take him for a well check when we get him. His name is Spencer. Sorry for going on and on, I'm just excited and happy!!!!!!!!! Any suggestions for when we bring him home? Oppie Post edited by: oppie, at: 2008/10/25 06:25<br><br>Post edited by: oppie, at: 2008/10/25 06:55
  10. Hello, We live in an apartment and had a SIE, and she wasn't loud at all. Our two 'tiels are quiet 96% of the time, and our Dove is also very quiet. Oppie
  11. Thank you, kittykittykitty!
  12. Hi, We lost our Eclectus last month to liver disease. She had it a while. She was only 2. We are going to get another "big" parrot when the time is right. My girlfriend wants a male Eclectus, but we are considering a Grey as well (one or the other). Can anybody compare the two? Thanks, Oppie
  13. Hi, BMustee, Thank you for clearing that up. I didn't know that about 'tiels, but what you said makes sense. I've had the one 'tiel for about 14 years, and the other for around 10 years. They are healthy. Thanks again, Oppie
  14. Hello, My girlfriend an I are thinking about getting a Grey in the future. We have two 'tiels and a Dove. On another board, I was told that we should NOT keep the Grey in the same room as the other FIDs, even though they would never be out when the Grey was, even after the quarantine period. I can't see this. I need more opinions on this. Please give me your thoughts. Thank you, Oppie
